UCF redshirt junior TE Jordan Akins will forego his final year of eligibility to enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

Akins (6'3/238) rolled out to catch 32 passes for 515 yards and four touchdowns during UCF's undefeated 2017 season. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline has consistently been in the tight end's corner, noting in early December that evaluators were flat-out ignoring Akins coming into the year. While he'll be fighting for a late Day 3 selection in the draft, don't be surprised if he performs well in athletic testing this spring. He should run well for a tight end.

Charlotte freshman QB Chris Reynolds will have season-ending ankle surgery.

A huge loss for the 49ers. The 5-foot-11, 199-pound quarterback wasn't having an other-worldly statistical season, but he was accurate with his passes (65.2 completion percentage) and had thrown only two interceptions. Evan Shirreffs will almost assuredly take over as the starting quarterback going forward for the 3-and-3 49ers, and start on Saturday against Middle Tennessee State.

Alabama HC Nick Saban told reporters at his weekly press conference that sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa will practice and is a "full-go" for Saturday's game against Tennessee.

"Tua hasn't missed a day of practice," Saban said. "He could've gone back in the game, like I said (Saturday). He's going to practice today. Probably better this week than he was last week, so we're going to see how he does in practice and continue to evaluate him." That's obviously terrific news for the Crimson Tide/people who like watching ridiculously good quarterbacks. Alabama does have the ultimate fallback option in Jalen Hurts if Tagovailoa cant go, but it sure sounds like the southpaw sophomore is going to play against the Volunteers this week.

Washington HC Chris Petersen told reporters at his press conference on Monday that senior RB Myles Gaskin (shoulder) is "week-to-week."

Gaskin was in-and-out of the lineup for the Huskies in the overtime loss to Oregon on Saturday, and at one point his shoulder pads were seen underneath the bench while he was to the medical facility near the end of the second half. He returned, but not for long. The star tailback's backup -- Salvon Ahmed -- is also week-to-week -- so this could be a big blow to the Washington running game. We should have more on his status for Saturday's game against Colorado later in the week.
Oct 15 - 2:57 PM

Stanford HC David Shaw told reporters that he was "hopeful" that senior RB Bryce Love (ankle) can play on Thursday against Arizona State.

Love was unable to play in the 40-21 blowout loss to Utah on October 6, and Stanford was on bye the next week. Love hasn't had the tremendous season we expected after his breakout campaign in 2017, but we've seen what this offense looks like without him. If Love is unable to go, Cameron Scarlett and Trevor Speights would see the majority of the touches against the Sun Devils.

ECU freshman QB Holton Ahlers is listed as the starting quarterback for this weekend's game against UCF.

It will be his first career start. The Pirates are pulling the plug on sophomore QB Reid Herring, who started the first six games of the year. The offense was stagnant under his watch. All three of ECU's touchdowns over three games of AAC play have come when Ahlers was on the field. Ahlers, a highly-touted local product, signed with ECU over offers from NC State, Florida and Georgia. He will not have to look over his shoulder when he takes the field on Saturday. "He doesn’t have a leash. I’ve taken the leash off," HC Scottie Montgomery said. "He’s going to get to play as long and as hard as he can." The 6-foot-3, 236-pound Ahlers has mostly been used as a sub-package rusher so far. He leads ECU with 248 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Arizona State junior WR N'Keal Harry (undisclosed) returned to practice on Monday.

Harry left his last game against Colorado on October 6 with what appeared to be a thigh injury, although Arizona State is being tight-lipped on the specifics, to no one's surprise. A return to practice bodes well for the talented junior, and it sounds like there's a good chance that he's going to be able to play against Stanford this Saturday.

UCLA sophomore edge rusher Jaelan Phillips (concussion) will miss the rest of the season.

Phillips (6'4/245) has missed the past few weeks after suffering the injury in the loss to Colorado. This was a lost season for him, as Phillips also dealt with an unspecified injury sustained against Oklahoma in Week 2. In the spring, he suffered a wrist injury after an auto/scooter accident. A former five-star recruit who was the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2017 class according to ESPN, Phillips is a freak athlete off the edge. He's eligible to take a redshirt this year because he's only appeared in four games.

Ole Miss junior WR D.K. Metcalf will miss the remainder of the season with a neck injury.

Metcalf injured his neck in the second quarter of Saturday's win over Arkansas. At the time, it was hoped that the injury was a minor neck strain. The news the Rebels got back from doctors was decidedly worse. HC Matt Luke declined to elaborate, but did say the injury will likely require surgery but that it won't threaten Metcalf's availability beyond this season. Such unfortunate news. Metcalf was in the middle of the breakout campaign we'd all hoped for, ranking eighth nationally in yards per catch (21.9) with a 26-569-5 line. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is the consensus top WR in the 2019 NFL Draft class according to The Draft Network's team of analysts. With only 67 career catches, it'll be interesting to see if Metcalf declares over the winter, or if this injury will be enough to convince him to return to Oxford.

UConn redshirt junior LB Eli Thomas remains hospitalized but is in stable condition following the stroke he suffered on Oct. 10.

Thomas suffered the stroke before a morning weightlifting session. He's making "good progress," according to the team. Thomas, who missed the 2017 campaign while rehabbing a torn ACL, transferred to UConn from Lackawanna College. "Thank you for all your love and well wishes for Eli," Thomas' mother, Mary Beth Turner, said in a statement. "To say we are stunned by this turn of events is an understatement! A strong, healthy, 22-year-old man having a stroke is not anything we anticipated. However, Eli will fight back as he has with every challenge that has come his way with 'Eli Style.'"

USC senior LB Porter Gustin suffered a season-ending fractured ankle late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s victory over Colorado.

"We are all kind of numb right now, to be honest with you," USC head coach Clay Helton said. "He’s a force of nature, and you think of him as a superhero, as Thor ... and to know that he’s not going to be with us for the remaining part of the season is obviously something that hurts us all." Gustin will undergo surgery and then will begin rehabilitation to prepare for the NFL draft. This is obviously a tough blow for USC, as well as to Gustin's NFL stock. Gustin has been one of the Pac-12's best defenders the past three years when he's been healthy, but he struggles to stay on the field. Gustin was limited to only four games last year due to toe and biceps injuries. He also suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee during camp this summer.

According to Bruce Feldman, Texas is optimistic sophomore QB Sam Ehlinger (shoulder sprain) will play against Oklahoma State on October 27th.

The sophomore quarterback suffered a Grade 1 AC shoulder sprain to his right arm against Baylor on Saturday, but Texas has their bye week right now, which is giving Ehlinger enough time to heal up ahead of their next game. If Ehlinger suffers a setback, then Shane Buechele will draw the start. Texas is now all the way up to No. 7 in the country.
