It's looking more and more like Cam Ward will not be back with the Carolina Hurricanes next season.

While nothing has been firmly decided yet, the Hurricanes are looking at other free agent goaltenders to potentially pair with Scott Darling. Meanwhile, Ward's agent, Rick Curran, said that five teams have asked about his client with three doing "extensive interviews" with Ward. Curran said that Chicago was among those three teams, which gels with a previous report that the Blackhawks are close to signing Ward.

The Chicago Blackhawks have reportedly inquired to the Carolina Hurricanes about Scott Darling.

That would be an interesting development to say the least. Darling was a great backup goaltender in Chicago, but his first season as a starter with Carolina was a disaster. The problem with him going back to Chicago though is that the Hurricanes signed Darling to a four-year, $16.6 million contract that still has three seasons left on it. It's hard to see how the Blackhawks work that deal into their cap situation, but maybe if it's part of a larger trade and Carolina retains part of that cap hit, it could work. Apparently Justin Faulk might be part of the same talks, so it certainly doesn't seem like a stretch to think that we're talking about a moderate part of a potentially big trade.
