49ers released OG Zane Beadles.

Beadles had one season remaining on the three-year, $11.75 million deal he signed in 2016. The move clears $3.5 million against the cap. A mega-bust at left guard in 2016, Beadles was no better as he shifted all along the line last season. The former second-rounder turns 32 in November.

Free agent DL Terrell McClain is visiting the 49ers on Monday.

Cut by the Redskins last week, McClain has already met with the Dolphins, but he left without a deal. The former Cowboys disappointed during his only season in Washington.

49ers general manager John Lynch said moving S Tarvarius Moore to cornerback is "no doubt a projection".

Niners will also move Jimmie Ward and fifth-round pick CB D.J. Reed to safety. Coaches figured Moore (6'2", 38 ½-inch vertical, 4.32 forty) profiled better at outside corner since Southern Mississippi's defense emphasized man-to-man coverage. Reed will compete with K'Waun Williams at nickel cornerback while also practicing at free safety. With Ward also practicing at corner, the 49ers' top free safety is currently projected as Adrian Colbert.
May 5 - 10:57 AM

Free agent Youngshoe Koo is practicing with the 49ers on a tryout basis.

He's one of 33 players trying out for San Francisco this weekend. Shoo began last year as the Chargers' starting kicker but flamed out quickly after missing three of his first six attempts. The Georgia Southern alum has little chance of overtaking Robbie Gould, who missed just two of his 41 field goal tries last season.
May 4 - 2:32 PM

49ers waived LB Donavin Newsom.

Newsom suffered a terrifying head and neck injury during a training camp practice last year. Taken off the field in an ambulance, Newsom spent two days in the hospital and dealt with symptoms until December. He was cleared in January and said he wants to continue his career.

Patriots acquired OT Trent Brown and the No. 143 overall pick in the 2018 draft from the 49ers in exchange for the No. 95 overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Brown is a mauling right tackle with long arms who has battled conditioning issues. He's reportedly a bit out of shape as he recovers from labrum surgery on his shoulder. Brown isn't expected to be healthy until training camp. He should be a has one year left on his deal.
Apr 27 - 12:31 PM

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports the 49ers are targeting Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds with the No. 9 pick.

The 49ers have a need at linebacker and "covet" the high upside three-down profile of Edmunds. They've also been connected to Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick and may look to trade down for Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch. Edmunds would give San Francisco insurance for MLB Reuben Foster but has the edge-rush skills to line up at multiple spots.
Apr 25 - 6:30 PM

49ers GM John Lynch said the team remains interested in re-signing free agent S/LB Eric Reid.

Reid has drawn minimal interest on the open market despite being 26 and in the prime of his career with a multi-position skill set and coming off a strong year. His kneeling during the national anthem is certainly playing a role. With the Niners, Reid wouldn't be guaranteed a starting job, which is the hangup.
Apr 23 - 7:27 PM

The 49ers will not allow LB Reuben Foster to participate in team activities while he tends to legal matters.

"Reuben Foster will not participate in team activities as he is tending to his legal matters," the 49ers said in a statement. "As previously stated, his future with the team will be determined by the information revealed during the legal process." He would be allowed to participate in offseason activities per league rules if the 49ers' organization hadn't said otherwise. Foster's felony charge stems from an incident in February in which he was accused of dragging his live-in girlfriend from his house and punching her "8 to 10 times." He was also charged with forcefully attempting to prevent the reporting of a crime, possession of an assault weapon, and misdemeanor possession of a large capacity weapon magazine.
Apr 15 - 7:56 PM

49ers released a statement on LB Reuben Foster saying the team is "aware" of his recent charges and his place in the organization is under "great scrutiny".

"We will continue to follow this serious matter," the statement continues. "Reuben is aware that his place in our organization is under great scrutiny and will depend on what is learned through the legal process." It's clear the organization plans to let Foster's legal situation play out before making a decision on his future. According to the DA, he is facing more than 11 years in prison if convicted and could still be suspended by the NFL if charges are avoided.
Apr 12 - 1:10 PM

Seahawks signed CB Dontae Johnson, formerly of the 49ers.

Johnson is 26 and gives Seattle some much-needed starting experience after starting all 16 games for the Niners last season. However, Pro Football Focus graded Johnson as its worst cover corner out of 121 qualifiers in 2017. He has great length at 6'2/200 and is a decent flier for the needy Hawks.
Apr 11 - 1:15 PM

Free agent LB Korey Toomer will visit the 49ers on Wednesday.

Toomer visited the Colts last month. Something of a journeyman, Toomer made 16 starts for the Chargers over the past two seasons.
Apr 3 - 4:52 PM

The Boston Sports Journal's Greg Bedard passes along word from a "Bill Belichick-friendly source" that the longer Rob Gronkowski goes without committing to the team, the chances of the Patriots trading him increase.

This is pure speculation, but it isn't the first time we've seen it, as MMQB's Albert Breer hinted at it as well in a piece on Thursday. Both Breer and Bedard are ex-Patriots beat writers with plenty of connections to the team. Gronkowski has yet to inform the Patriots of his 2018 plans, and some think Belichick could use that as fuel to trade the star tight end, who may be tiring of playing at a massive discount in New England. Bedard mentions the 49ers and Rams as suitors should Gronkowski become available. 29-year-old (in May) Gronk is the fourth-highest-paid tight end at $9 million per year and has two years left on his deal.
Mar 30 - 11:31 AM

The Packers will visit with free agent CB Delvin Breaux.

Breaux is also scheduled to visit the 49ers. He had early interest from Denver and New England, but didn't land a deal. Breaux has faded due to injuries the last two years, playing in just six games. He's a starting corner when healthy.
Mar 24 - 5:02 PM

The 49ers hosted free agent CB Ladarius Gunter on Thursday.

An ex-Packers starter, Gunter couldn't get on the field with the Panthers last season and isn't much of a special teams asset. Gunter ran an ugly 4.69 forty coming out of Miami in 2015. He'd compete for a roster spot in San Francisco.
Mar 22 - 4:16 PM

Free agent DB Jaylen Watkins will visit the 49ers on Wednesday.

Originally a restricted free agent, Watkins went untendered by the Eagles. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the defensive back has a few more visits lined up after the 49ers. Watkins offers depth at both safety and corner.
Mar 20 - 9:55 AM

Raiders signed DE Tank Carradine, formerly of the 49ers.

A 2013 second-rounder, Carradine has only 5.5 career sacks but is decent against the run. He also generated some pressure on 214 snaps last season. In between, he was sidelined by a high-ankle sprain. Capable of playing multiple positions, he will hunt for rotational work in Oakland.
Mar 16 - 10:55 PM

Bears signed DE Aaron Lynch, formerly of the 49ers, to a one-year contract.

The former fifth-rounder has been lightly used over the past two seasons, tallying 2.5 sacks in 14 games. Still only 25, Lynch has some theoretical upside but has struggled with conditioning issues. He won't be guaranteed to crack the 53-man roster in Chicago, though reuniting with ex-49ers DC Vic Fangio could be the boost he needs.
Mar 15 - 6:50 PM

Dolphins acquired C Daniel Kilgore from the 49ers.

The teams are swapping seventh-round picks as "compensation." The 49ers just signed Kilgore to a three-year extension in February, but their signing of Weston Richburg made him expendable. For the Dolphins, Kilgore will slide in as the immediate replacement for Mike Pouncey. A longtime reserve who became a full-time starter in 2016, Kilgore has never been a Pro Football Focus star. He's cheap and will gobble up snaps for the rebuilding Dolphins.
