ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs and Rams are "in the final stages of talks" on a trade that will send LCB Marcus Peters to Los Angeles.

The deal is expected to be agreed to as early as Friday, barring an unexpected snag. The trade can't become official until the new league year opens on March 14, but it appears the Rams have their new No. 1 corner. With Trumaine Johnson set for free agency, Peters will likely slide into his spot on defense. No. 2 CB Kayvon Webster is still recovering from a late-season Achilles' tear. Peters irked many in the Chiefs' organization at times, but there's no denying he's a top 5-10 corner and is first among all cornerbacks in interceptions (19) since entering the league in 2015. Peters has two more years of team control on his rookie contract.

Titans hired ex-Rams OC Matt LaFleur as their offensive coordinator.

LaFleur initially interviewed for the head coaching job in Tennessee, but he will be brought in as new coach Mike Vrabel's coordinator instead. LaFleur has worked with some of the best offensive minds in the game the last several seasons, "coordinating" Sean McVay's offense in Los Angeles and working as Kyle Shanahan's QBs coach in both Atlanta and Washington. This will be his first time really running an NFL offense, but it is difficult to come from better lineage. This is a good hire for Tennessee.

Rams waived S Maurice Alexander.

Alexander started each of the Rams' first four games, but he struggled mightily and was benched for Week 5. Alexander goes to make room for WR Mike Thomas.

Rams waived DE Quinton Jefferson.

The No. 147 overall pick of last year's draft, Jefferson was claimed off waivers from the Seahawks at final cuts, but couldn't stick. The Rams will presumably try to stash him on the practice squad.

Rams waived/released WR Nelson Spruce, DT Omarius Bryant, WR K.D. Cannon, OL Parker Collins, K Travis Coons, CB Carlos Davis, LB Kevin Davis, OL Michael Dunn, OL Jake Eldrenkamp, LB Josh Forrest, DB Tyquwan Glass, RB Aaron Green, DB Isaiah Johnson, DB Michael Jordan, OL Alex Kozan, OL Willie Mays, LB Cassanova Mckinzy, WR Paul McRoberts, OLB Andy Mulumba, OL Pace Murphy, LB Folarin Orimolade, DB Aarion Penton, NT Mike Purcell, FB Sam Rogers, WR Shakeir Ryan, DT Casey Sayles, WR Brandon Shippen, OLB Carlos Thompson, RB Lenard Tillery, OLB Davis Tull, OG Cody Wichmann, TE Travis Wilson, TE Cory Harkey and QB Dan Orlovsky.

No surprises for the rebuilding Rams. A hyped 2016 UDFA, Spruce couldn't get on the field as a rookie before spending time on injured reserve with a calf injury. He turns 25 in December.

Free agent CB Leodis McKelvin is visiting the Rams on Wednesday.

McKelvin worked out for the Saints last week. It was his first since being released by the Eagles in February. Turning 32 next month, McKelvin doesn't have a whole lot left. The Rams traded CB E.J. Gaines for Sammy Watkins on Friday.

Bills acquired CB E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-round pick from the Rams in exchange for WR Sammy Watkins and a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Gaines, a 2014 sixth-rounder, had a strong rookie season as a 15-game starter, but he missed all of 2015 with a Lisfranc fracture in his foot and didn't look the same last year. Coach Sean McDermott is taking a flier here in the hopes Gaines can rebound. Gaines figures to replace Ronald Darby in Buffalo after he was traded to the Eagles as part of the Jordan Matthews trade on Friday.

Free agent DL Tyson Jackson is working out for the Rams.

A reserve for last year's NFC champion Falcons, Jackson hadn't drawn a whiff of interest since being released in May. For the Rams, his job would be to take up space.

Free agent Rashad Jennings recently said he's had "simple conversations" with the Lions, Packers, Rams, Ravens, and Dolphins.

Jennings made the comments on July 20. Since then, the Ravens have lost Kenneth Dixon to a season-ending knee injury, and the Rams have been without Lance Dunbar (knee). Both clubs would make sense as landing spots for the 32-year-old. Jennings is coming off a miserable 2016 where he averaged 3.3 YPC.

Free agent DT Sean Lissemore worked out for the Rams.

Lissemore visited the Falcons in May, but nothing came of it. The former Charger missed all of last season after getting hurt early in training camp.

Rams worked out free agent QBs Sean Renfree and Thad Lewis.

With just Jared Goff and Sean Mannion on the depth chart, the Rams could use a camp arm. Neither player would be a real threat for the final roster.

Rams released DT Tyrunn Walker.

Walker made it three months on the Rams' 90-man roster. He was making just $775,000. His release is an ominous sign after he was benched down the stretch for the Lions last season. Walker turned 27 in March.

Rams waived C/G Demetrius Rhaney.

A seventh-round pick in 2014, Rhaney saw some spot action two seasons ago, but he was primarily a special teams contributor. Getting cut at this point in the offseason is not a great sign, but perhaps Rhaney latches on with another team before camp.

Lions acquired OT Greg Robinson from the Rams in exchange for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Working behind Jamon Brown at right tackle during minicamp, it was clear Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2014, was done with the Rams. It makes sense for the Lions to see what Robinson can do with Taylor Decker likely to miss the start of the season with a shoulder injury, but he has shown nothing to this point to suggest he can be even a competent fill-in. Robinson is not guaranteed to make the final roster.
Thu, Jun 15, 2017 09:21:00 AM

Rams waived QB Aaron Murray.

It's pretty remarkable Murray is still around. The 2014 fifth-rounder has never come close to stepping on a regular season field. He turns 27 in November.
Thu, May 11, 2017 05:28:00 PM

Rams released OL David Arkin.

Arkin has been bouncing around the league since being taken by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2011 draft, but he has played just 13 career snaps in the regular season. Set to turn 30 in October, he is likely nearing the end of the line.

49ers signed C Tim Barnes, formerly of the Rams.

Barnes started all 32 games for the Rams the previous two seasons but was among the first cuts under new coach Sean McVay. He's a fringe NFL player who shouldn't be anywhere near any team's starting lineup.

Bills traded up with the Rams to select East Carolina WR Zay Jones with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

The Bills surrendered picks No. 44 and 91 in exchange for Nos. 37 and 149 so they could address their crater behind Sammy Watkins. Jones (6’2/201) made 41 starts for the Pirates, setting a school record for career catches (399) and finishing second in ECU history in both receiving yards (4,279) and touchdown grabs (23). Jones broke the FBS single-season receptions record (158) as a senior, dropping just 6-of-164 catchable targets. While Jones lived on bubble screens and quick hitters and averaged only 10.7 yards per catch, he showed elite athleticism with a 94th-percentile SPARQ score and 4.45 speed at the Combine. Albeit not quite as big, Jones profiles similarly to Eagles WR Jordan Matthews as a slot-Z chain mover with more reliable hands.

Free agent OT Jake Long announced his retirement after nine seasons.

As we head into draft week, Long, the No. 1 overall pick in 2008, hangs up his cleats. As soon as he stepped on the field, Long was one of the premier left tackles in the sport. He made the Pro Bowl each of his first four seasons and was named a first-team All Pro in 2010. In 2011, injuries started to ruin Long's career. He suffered a back injury, snapping a 61-game starting streak, then tore his biceps later in the year. Long signed a four-year deal with the Rams in 2013 and suffered his second torn ACL in 2014. He made pit stops with the Falcons and Vikings in 2015 and 2016 and suffered a torn Achilles' last year with Minnesota, effectively ending his career.

Rams released OG Tre' Jackson with a failed physical.

Jackson has been cut from the Rams and New England this offseason. He's still recovering from a knee injury after missing all of 2016. Jackson should resurface when healthy.
