Yahoo! Sports' Terez Paylor reports the Chiefs were "inching closer toward a deal" for FS Earl Thomas before he broke his leg in Week 4.

It's all moot now with Thomas re-breaking his tibia and being done for the season. Per Paylor, "there was internal optimism something would be struck before the deadline." The Cowboys also remained in the mix. It's still noteworthy, as both teams could eye Thomas in free agency in March.
Oct 1 - 8:16 PM

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks won't budge on their asking price for FS Earl Thomas.

The Seahawks refuse to go lower than a second-rounder for Thomas, but with the trade deadline nearing, their leverage is running out. Dallas considered a trade for Thomas during the preseason but if those sides were to work out a deal, it probably would have happened last week when they played each other. Per Schefter, the Chiefs have emerged as the early frontrunner for Thomas. Kansas City's secondary has been a mess without Eric Berry (heel) and the Chiefs have an extra second-rounder they can use as trade bait. The trade deadline is October 30 at 4 PM ET.
Sep 30 - 10:56 AM

Chiefs waived WR Jehu Chesson.

A fourth-round pick last year, Chesson caught two passes for 18 yards as a rookie. He never looked close to pushing for real playing time in camp. Perhaps the Chiefs attempt to stash him on the practice squad.
Sep 1 - 4:59 PM

Chiefs waived/released TE Jace Amaro, WR Daniel Braverman, FB Algernon Brown, DT Stefan Charles, WR Jehu Chesson, OG Ethan Cooper, WR Josh Crockett, LB Raymond Davison, WR Gehrig Dieter, CB Makinton Dorleant, DB Step Durham, LB Ukeme Eligwe, LB Tyrone Holmes, OT Ryan Hunter, RB Ray Lawry, DT Dee Liner, QB Chase Litton, WR Blake Mack, LB Rob McCray, DT T.Y. McGill, S Leon McQuay, C Jimmy Murray, LB Otha Peters, DT Mike Purcell, CB Keith Reaser, CB Will Redmond, WR Jordan Smallwood, OT Bentley Spain, DB Arrion Springs, S Jordan Sterns, DB D'Montre Wade, RB Kerwynn Williams, TE Tim Wright, and OLB Frank Zombo.

Kansas City also placed Byron Pringle on injured reserve. These moved got them to the 53-man roster limit.
Sep 1 - 4:56 PM

Chiefs released CB David Amerson.

Signed in part to help replace Marcus Peters, Amerson could not even make it to Week 1 following a rough preseason. The corner is a couple years removed from a good season, but he still should draw some interest on the open market. Kansas City's secondary remains a major concern.
Sep 1 - 2:48 PM

Chiefs released OLB Frank Zombo.

Zombo spent the last five seasons as a special teamer and reserve edge rusher for Kansas City, compiling 5.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Zombo's versatility should earn him a look from depth-needy teams.
Sep 1 - 2:06 PM

Cowboys acquired G/C Parker Ehinger from the Chiefs in exchange for CB Charvarius Ward.

Ehinger was a fourth-round pick in 2016, while Ward is an undrafted rookie. The Cowboys need the interior depth with C Travis Frederick out indefinitely with an autoimmune disease. Ehinger has made five career starts.
Aug 31 - 11:08 AM

Jets signed RB Charcandrick West, formerly of the Chiefs.

West was only on the market two days following his release from Kansas City. The 27-year-old has been an effective pass-catcher since arriving as an undrafted rookie in 2014, nabbing 75-of-102 targets for 552 yards and five touchdowns in his three seasons. He'll provide depth behind lead backs Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell. West's signing could be an indicator that Elijah McGuire's recovery from a broken foot is moving slower than expected.
Aug 24 - 1:59 PM

Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy said Sammy Watkins and Patrick Mahomes are "starting to sync."

"He’s accepted the challenge because we’re not just playing him at one position," Bieniemy said. "I know everybody wants to talk about what’s happening on the field on game day, but I will say this: Their communication, their rhythm is starting to sync." Watkins hasn't caught a pass in two preseason games and has been out-targeted by Tyreek Hill 6-3. The Chiefs have played Watkins in the slot on 9-of-22 (41%) snaps thus far, which would be a career-high rate if that carries over into the regular season. As it stands, Hill is still the clear-cut wideout to own in Kansas City.
Aug 23 - 9:22 AM

Chiefs released RB Charcandrick West.

The move saves the Chiefs $1.7 million against the cap. West, 27, had been sidelined most of camp with a concussion. He led the 2015 Chiefs with a 160-634-4.0-4 rushing line while adding 214 yards and a fifth score as a pass catcher. But West was buried on the depth chart behind Kareem Hunt. Spencer Ware, Damien Williams, and Kerwynn Williams are also on the team.
Aug 22 - 12:12 PM

Chiefs released S Robert Golden.

A former Steeler, Golden was not being considered for the Chiefs' starting job opposite Eric Berry and asked for his release. Golden could catch on elsewhere as a special teamer but isn't a starting-caliber NFL safety.
Aug 15 - 11:17 PM's Ian Rapoport reports free agent CB Orlando Scandrick will visit the Chiefs.

Scandrick is supposedly drawing "significant interest." That wasn't the case when he was first on the market in March. The Chiefs are one of the most cornerback-poor teams in the league, and will likely sign Scandrick if he has anything left.
Aug 14 - 5:02 PM

Free agent CB Bashaud Breeland is visiting the Colts on Thursday.

It is the second time he has visited the Colts. Breeland appeared close to signing with the Chiefs yesterday -- he was spotted watching practice -- but the two sides obviously could not work out a deal. The Colts need as much help in the secondary as anyone.
Jul 26 - 8:36 AM

Free agent CB Bashaud Breeland was seen at Chiefs practice on Wednesday.

ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher noted that it's unusual for a visiting free agent to attend practice without a deal in place, but apparently Breeland has yet to put pen to paper. Breeland has made the rounds over the last week, checking in with Cleveland, Indianapolis and Oakland, though his presence at Wednesday's practice would suggest he's seriously considering signing with Kansas City. He'd be a good get for the Chiefs, who are looking to replace Marcus Peters (traded) and Terrance Mitchell (left in free agency).
Jul 25 - 10:48 AM

Free agent Bashaud Breeland has visits with the Raiders and Chiefs next week.

Breeland met with the Colts and Arizona after his three-year deal with the Panthers voided, but this is his first interest since May. The Raiders have talked up Gareon Conley as a starter but Breeland would be an upgrade opposite Rashaan Melvin, while the Chiefs have question marks at corner after trading Marcus Peters. Four months removed from foot surgery, Breeland is likely going to have to settle for less than the $8M annually he landed earlier this offseason.
Jul 21 - 4:15 PM

Free agent Eli Rogers will work out for the Chiefs on Sunday.

Rogers was nontendered by the Steelers after January ACL surgery. He has visits lined up with the Chiefs, Browns, and Raiders and expects to sign soon. Rogers is ahead of schedule in his recovery but will be a candidate for the PUP list wherever he lands.
Jul 21 - 10:26 AM

Grand Valley State RB Martayveus Carter will work out for the Chiefs on Thursday.

This will be Carter's first known workout since going undrafted in last week's Supplemental Draft. If signed, the former DII Offensive Player of the Year would give the Chiefs backfield depth behind last year's NFL rushing leader, Kareem Hunt.
Jul 19 - 8:19 AM

Former Jets, Bucs, Patriots, and Chiefs CB Darrelle Revis announced his retirement from the NFL after 11 seasons.

The former No. 14 overall pick in the 2007 draft, Revis was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time first-team All-Pro pick. Revis turned 33 last weekend and spent eight seasons with the Jets across two stints and spent one each with the Bucs, Patriots, and Chiefs, winning Super Bowl 49 with New England. Revis picked off 29 career passes, but quarterbacks were so afraid to throw at "Revis Island" during his initial six-year stint with the Jets. He's a lock for the Hall of Fame and will likely see his name in the Jets' Ring of Honor.
Jul 18 - 10:51 AM

Free agent OLB Tamba Hali admitted his playing days are likely over.

Hali, 34, was released back in March after spending 12 years with the Chiefs, the organization that made him the 20th overall pick in the 2006 draft. He missed most of 2017 with knee issues and then barely played last season, as he was phased out of the defense. During his prime, Hali was one of the best edge rushers in the league, amassing 89.5 career sacks, with 55 of those coming in a five-year stretch from 2009-13. Hali was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time second-team All-Pro. He'll likely retire with the Chiefs on a ceremonial deal.
Jun 27 - 1:22 PM

Virginia Tech CB Adonis Alexander visited with the Jets.

The Saints, Colts, and Kansas City also met with him. It confirms Alexander's league wide interest after 26 teams attended his Pro Day. Alexander (6'2/195) has starting traits but was suspended multiple times at Virginia Tech and his measurables (4.6 forty) would have ranked at the bottom of this year's class. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gives Alexander a third-round supplemental grade.
