According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the length of free agent Kareem Hunt's suspension will be determined before the start of free agency.

In addition to the widely-circulated video of Hunt shoving and kicking a woman outside his Cleveland hotel room last February, the league is also investigating two other incidents, one involving a physical altercation at a club and another at a resort. The former Chief has yet to speak to NFL investigators, though his fate should be decided sometime before the start of free agency in March. Despite his off-field troubles, "several teams" have reportedly kept tabs on Hunt, who led the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards as a rookie in 2017 and was having an even better year prior to his release in 2018. Hunt has already been linked to the Bears, who are coached by former Chiefs OC Matt Nagy. Rapoport fully expects the 23-year-old to play in the NFL next season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent WR Kelvin Benjamin is visiting the Chiefs on Thursday.

Benjamin offered nothing but poor effort his 18 games with the Bills, but he did have two relatively successful seasons in Carolina before being traded. If he is motivated, he could be a solid and cheap depth signing for a team with Super Bowl aspirations like the Chiefs. Kansas City currently has Chris Conley and Demarcus Robinson behind Tyreek Hill and an injured Sammy Watkins.

Ex-Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt passed through waivers unclaimed.

He is now technically free to sign with any team but will remain on the NFL's commissioner exempt list indefinitely, making Hunt ineligible to play until Roger Goodell clears him to come off of it. And that won't happen this year. It speaks to the Washington Redskins' lack of integrity that they claimed ex-49ers LB Reuben Foster off waivers after his latest domestic violence accusation, but not a single NFL team claimed Hunt. It also speaks to the power of video evidence; Hunt was caught on tape beating up a woman, while Foster never was.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Chiefs are not expected to sign C.J. Anderson.

Anderson was the odds-on favorite Sunday night, but the Chiefs decided to go with Charcandrick West, who spent the last four seasons with the team and should be able to settle in quickly. Perhaps the Chiefs revisit Anderson if Spencer Ware struggles over the next couple weeks.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Charcandrick West will meet with the Chiefs on Monday.

Kansas City will also meet with C.J. Anderson as they attempt to pick up the pieces following the Kareem Hunt debacle. West spent the last four seasons with the Chiefs, but he was released during training camp earlier this year.

Free agent C.J. Anderson will visit with the Chiefs on Monday.

Anderson is expected to sign if he passes his physical. He'll give the Chiefs another back behind Spencer Ware after cutting ties with Kareem Hunt. Anderson managed 4.3 YPC in nine games (24 carries) with the Panthers before getting released last month. He'll push for committee work in Kansas City.

Yahoo! Sports' Terez Paylor reports the Chiefs were "inching closer toward a deal" for FS Earl Thomas before he broke his leg in Week 4.

It's all moot now with Thomas re-breaking his tibia and being done for the season. Per Paylor, "there was internal optimism something would be struck before the deadline." The Cowboys also remained in the mix. It's still noteworthy, as both teams could eye Thomas in free agency in March.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks won't budge on their asking price for FS Earl Thomas.

The Seahawks refuse to go lower than a second-rounder for Thomas, but with the trade deadline nearing, their leverage is running out. Dallas considered a trade for Thomas during the preseason but if those sides were to work out a deal, it probably would have happened last week when they played each other. Per Schefter, the Chiefs have emerged as the early frontrunner for Thomas. Kansas City's secondary has been a mess without Eric Berry (heel) and the Chiefs have an extra second-rounder they can use as trade bait. The trade deadline is October 30 at 4 PM ET.

Chiefs waived WR Jehu Chesson.

A fourth-round pick last year, Chesson caught two passes for 18 yards as a rookie. He never looked close to pushing for real playing time in camp. Perhaps the Chiefs attempt to stash him on the practice squad.

Chiefs waived/released TE Jace Amaro, WR Daniel Braverman, FB Algernon Brown, DT Stefan Charles, WR Jehu Chesson, OG Ethan Cooper, WR Josh Crockett, LB Raymond Davison, WR Gehrig Dieter, CB Makinton Dorleant, DB Step Durham, LB Ukeme Eligwe, LB Tyrone Holmes, OT Ryan Hunter, RB Ray Lawry, DT Dee Liner, QB Chase Litton, WR Blake Mack, LB Rob McCray, DT T.Y. McGill, S Leon McQuay, C Jimmy Murray, LB Otha Peters, DT Mike Purcell, CB Keith Reaser, CB Will Redmond, WR Jordan Smallwood, OT Bentley Spain, DB Arrion Springs, S Jordan Sterns, DB D'Montre Wade, RB Kerwynn Williams, TE Tim Wright, and OLB Frank Zombo.

Kansas City also placed Byron Pringle on injured reserve. These moved got them to the 53-man roster limit.

Chiefs released CB David Amerson.

Signed in part to help replace Marcus Peters, Amerson could not even make it to Week 1 following a rough preseason. The corner is a couple years removed from a good season, but he still should draw some interest on the open market. Kansas City's secondary remains a major concern.
Sat, Sep 1, 2018 02:48:00 PM

Chiefs released OLB Frank Zombo.

Zombo spent the last five seasons as a special teamer and reserve edge rusher for Kansas City, compiling 5.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Zombo's versatility should earn him a look from depth-needy teams.

Cowboys acquired G/C Parker Ehinger from the Chiefs in exchange for CB Charvarius Ward.

Ehinger was a fourth-round pick in 2016, while Ward is an undrafted rookie. The Cowboys need the interior depth with C Travis Frederick out indefinitely with an autoimmune disease. Ehinger has made five career starts.

Jets signed RB Charcandrick West, formerly of the Chiefs.

West was only on the market two days following his release from Kansas City. The 27-year-old has been an effective pass-catcher since arriving as an undrafted rookie in 2014, nabbing 75-of-102 targets for 552 yards and five touchdowns in his three seasons. He'll provide depth behind lead backs Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell. West's signing could be an indicator that Elijah McGuire's recovery from a broken foot is moving slower than expected.

Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy said Sammy Watkins and Patrick Mahomes are "starting to sync."

"He’s accepted the challenge because we’re not just playing him at one position," Bieniemy said. "I know everybody wants to talk about what’s happening on the field on game day, but I will say this: Their communication, their rhythm is starting to sync." Watkins hasn't caught a pass in two preseason games and has been out-targeted by Tyreek Hill 6-3. The Chiefs have played Watkins in the slot on 9-of-22 (41%) snaps thus far, which would be a career-high rate if that carries over into the regular season. As it stands, Hill is still the clear-cut wideout to own in Kansas City.

Chiefs released RB Charcandrick West.

The move saves the Chiefs $1.7 million against the cap. West, 27, had been sidelined most of camp with a concussion. He led the 2015 Chiefs with a 160-634-4.0-4 rushing line while adding 214 yards and a fifth score as a pass catcher. But West was buried on the depth chart behind Kareem Hunt. Spencer Ware, Damien Williams, and Kerwynn Williams are also on the team.

Chiefs released S Robert Golden.

A former Steeler, Golden was not being considered for the Chiefs' starting job opposite Eric Berry and asked for his release. Golden could catch on elsewhere as a special teamer but isn't a starting-caliber NFL safety.
Wed, Aug 15, 2018 11:17:00 PM's Ian Rapoport reports free agent CB Orlando Scandrick will visit the Chiefs.

Scandrick is supposedly drawing "significant interest." That wasn't the case when he was first on the market in March. The Chiefs are one of the most cornerback-poor teams in the league, and will likely sign Scandrick if he has anything left.

Free agent CB Bashaud Breeland is visiting the Colts on Thursday.

It is the second time he has visited the Colts. Breeland appeared close to signing with the Chiefs yesterday -- he was spotted watching practice -- but the two sides obviously could not work out a deal. The Colts need as much help in the secondary as anyone.
Thu, Jul 26, 2018 08:36:00 AM

Free agent CB Bashaud Breeland was seen at Chiefs practice on Wednesday.

ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher noted that it's unusual for a visiting free agent to attend practice without a deal in place, but apparently Breeland has yet to put pen to paper. Breeland has made the rounds over the last week, checking in with Cleveland, Indianapolis and Oakland, though his presence at Wednesday's practice would suggest he's seriously considering signing with Kansas City. He'd be a good get for the Chiefs, who are looking to replace Marcus Peters (traded) and Terrance Mitchell (left in free agency).
