49ers claimed DT Sheldon Day off waivers from the Jaguars.

A 2016 fourth-rounder, Day played just 126 snaps this year before getting waived. He reunites with DC Robert Saleh, who was a position coach in Jacksonville. Day will push for a rotational role behind DeForest Buckner and Earl Mitchell.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, two teams have approached the Lions in the last week about trading for the rights to Calvin Johnson.

Schefter colleague Chris Mortensen said the Eagles and Jaguars are the two teams. The Lions seem open to the idea and have told interested teams to reach out to Johnson and gauge his interest. However, Johnson's interest in a potential return remains minimal, making it unlikely that a deal will come to fruition ahead of Tuesday's 4 PM ET trade deadline. The Lions have maintained Johnson's rights since his retirement at the end of 2015.

Jaguars released K Jason Myers.

Josh Lambo was signed to replace him. Myers missed two kicks including a critical one late in the loss to the Rams on Sunday, his third and fourth misses of the young season. Reasonably solid his first two years with Jacksonville, Myers will likely get a shot somewhere else down the line.

Jaguars released QB Ryan Nassib.

Nassib was released to make room for second-year OL Chris Reed. A fourth-round pick in 2013, Nassib will likely land on the practice squad somewhere.

Rams claimed QB Brandon Allen off waivers from the Jaguars.

Allen turned in a solid preseason before bombing in Jacksonville's exhibition finale. In L.A., he will push Sean Mannion to be Jared Goff's top backup.

Jaguars released DT Stefan Charles.

The Jags had to make room for some of their waiver claims. They also waived QB Brandon Allen, OL Jeremiah Poutasi, LB Hayes Pullard III and TE Neal Sterling. Charles signed with Jacksonville in March but never appeared in a regular season game for them.

Jaguars waived QB Brandon Allen.

It is a bit of a surprise after some beat writers speculated on Allen getting a look as the starter when things inevitably go wrong with Blake Bortles and Chad Henne. Jacksonville likely will try to stash him on the practice squad.

Jaguars EVP Tom Coughlin said he is "not interested" in Colin Kaepernick.

In Coughlin's defense, when your depth chart is topped by Blake Bortles and Chad Henne, you are pretty much set. With training camp done, it is even more unlikely Kaepernick finds a job this season.

Ravens acquired C/G Luke Bowanko from the Jaguars in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

The Ravens have picked up both Bowanko and fellow G/C Tony Bergstrom in trades the past 24 hours, while cutting last year's starting C Jeremy Zuttah. Baltimore clearly is trying to find suitable bodies on the interior.

Jaguars released RB Jonathan Grimes.

He was buried behind Leonard Fournette, T.J. Yeldon, Chris Ivory, and Corey Grant. Grimes' special teams value should draw interest from other teams.
Fri, Sep 1, 2017 07:16:00 PM

Jaguars released RB DuJuan Harris and waived CB Charles James and G/C Demetrius Rhaney.

Harris was on the team for 11 days as merely a warm body while Leonard Fournette and T.J. Yeldon nursed injuries. He rushed seven times for 26 yards in the preseason finale Thursday night. Harris turns 29 on Sunday.

Jaguars released LB Audie Cole.

A seventh-round pick by the Vikings in 2012, Cole saw several starts as a sophomore, but he has mostly been an asset on special teams. He was expected to fill a similar role in Jacksonville after signing there in March.

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan said he would "absolutely" be okay with signing free agent Colin Kaepernick if EVP Tom Coughlin advised it.

However, it doesn't appear Coughlin and GM Dave Caldwell feel Kaepernick makes them better, at least at the moment. Khan is really the first owner that has come out and said he'd welcome Kaepernick's addition. Kap getting a job doesn't seem imminent. The Ravens and Seahawks have made the most effort in seeing what Kap can offer but ultimately passed on the idea.

49ers signed DT Sen'Derrick Marks, formerly of the Jaguars.

Marks, 30, was released by the Jaguars back in March. He hasn't been the same productive player since tearing his ACL in 2014, but Marks has experience in DC Robert Saleh's scheme after playing for Gus Bradley in Jacksonville.

Free agent K Patrick Murray is working out for the Jaguars.

He'll be joined by ex-Bills kicker Dan Carpenter. The Jags are bringing in competition for Jason Myers, who has made just 1-of-4 field goals with a long of 27 yards in his first two preseason games. Murray spent a week with the Saints this summer but was cut on August 12.

Free agent K Dan Carpenter will work out for the Jaguars.

This comes on the heels of a rough night for incumbent Jason Myers, who shanked a 40-yarder and also missed his lone PAT attempt in Thursday's preseason loss to Tampa Bay. Carpenter was released by Buffalo in March after converting just 19-of-25 attempts last year including 5-of-11 from beyond 40 yards. He wouldn't be an improvement on Myers.

Jaguars waived/injured RB Tyler Gaffney.

The Jags cut him to make room for former Texan Jonathan Grimes. Gaffney lasted just over a week in Jacksonville. The 2014 sixth-rounder has yet to play an NFL down. He'll try to catch on as a camp body elsewhere.
Fri, Aug 11, 2017 04:18:00 PM

Jaguars released LT Branden Albert.

This concludes what has been a bizarre cat and mouse game between Albert and the Jaguars. Albert announced his retirement after struggling at the start of camp, only to return a week later when he found out he may have to pay back some of his signing bonus. The Jags ultimately decided it wasn't worth the hassle and now Albert is free to sign with a team of his choosing. Coming off a lackluster year in Miami, it's fair to wonder how much Albert has in the tank or even if he has any interest in playing.

Jaguars waived S James Sample.

A 2015 fourth-round pick, Sample couldn't stay healthy in Jacksonville.
Sun, Aug 6, 2017 02:30:00 PM

Free agent TE Gary Barnidge will visit the Jaguars next Tuesday.

Barnidge will also work out for the team that day. The 31-year-old's market has been relatively quiet after he was released by the Browns on draft weekend. He quickly worked out for the Bills but took a pause on visits. The Jaguars' tight end room could use an upgrade, as blocker Marcedes Lewis is currently atop the chart.
