Ex-Falcons coach and Bucs DC Mike Smith said he will no longer pursue coaching opportunities.

Smith said it is time "to do something different" and spend more time with family. The 59-year-old had a rough finish to his career with the Bucs, but he had a quality run as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator in the mid-2000s before going 66-46 in seven seasons as the Falcons' head coach.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter reports the Falcons have offered ex-Bucs coach Dirk Koetter their offensive coordinator job.

He's expected to accept it. Koetter was fired by the Bucs and hasn't been linked to any other job openings. Meanwhile, his OC in Tampa Bay, Todd Monken, has interviewed for multiple head-coaching gigs and was reportedly a finalist for the Packers gig. Monken was the one calling the shots for the Bucs' high-flying attack. Koetter has a history with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports ex-Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell will interview for the Jaguars' offensive coordinator vacancy in addition to the Falcons'.

Retread like you've never retreaded before. Bevell has been connected to the Falcons' opening for weeks. The Jags would be a far less attractive job, but it sounds like Dirk Koetter could be the man in Atlanta.
Jan 1 - 6:00 PM

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports ex-Bucs coach Dirk Koetter is "considered the front-runner" for the Falcons' offensive coordinator opening.

Atlanta is expected to "move pretty fast" in hiring a replacement for Steve Sarkisian, who was fired on Monday along with the team's other two coordinators. Koetter was just canned on Monday as well but should quickly land on his feet calling plays somewhere. He was the Falcons' OC from 2012-2014 before taking the same job in Tampa and obviously has a history with both Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. The Falcons have also been linked to ex-Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Falcons will interview ex-Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell for the same position in Atlanta.

An NFL coordinator since 2006, Bevell had a long stint in Minnesota followed up by seven years in Seattle. He spent 2018 out of the league. Bevell is far from incompetent, but he would not move the needle in Atlanta. Whereas Steve Sarkisian was an outside-the-box hire, Bevell would be as inside as possible.

Falcons fired ST coordinator Keith Armstrong.

A head coach candidate just last season, it is a bit surprising Armstrong is being shown the door. It is possible he was just caught up in a complete staff rebuild by coach Dan Quinn. Armstrong should quickly find another job.

Falcons fired DC Marquand Manuel.

Atlanta also fired OC Steve Sarkisian and ST coordinator Keith Armstrong. Manuel's firing appears to be a case of coach Dan Quinn wanting to take on a bigger role on defense. "I believe [Manuel] should have the opportunity to call plays for a defense," Quinn said, "so we have decided to allow his contract to expire so he can explore those opportunities." Atlanta's defense was a bottom-five unit in 2018, but injuries played a big role in their struggles. Manuel should land on his feet.

Falcons fired OC Steve Sarkisian.

Atlanta also fired DC Marquand Manuel and ST coach Keith Armstrong following their first losing season since 2014. Taking over from Kyle Shanahan and his historic 2016 attack, Sarkisian was never going to meet the lofty expectations set by that squad, but the offense fell more than anyone expected in 2017 and had concerning bouts of ineffectiveness this season including in a five-game losing streak which cost Atlanta a chance at the playoffs. Now out in Atlanta, it is possible Sark returns to the college ranks.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Darrell Bevell is a candidate for the Falcons' offensive coordinator job.

Bevell was out of the league this season after spending the last seven years coordinating in Seattle. He overlapped with Dan Quinn for two of those years and looks to be the favorite to replace OC Steve Sarkisian. Bevell could draw interest from multiple teams despite not much interest last offseason. The Falcons are his top landing spot.

Calvin Ridley (ankle) and Mohamed Sanu (hip) are both active for Week 7 against the Giants on Monday night.

Falcons released OG Sean Harlow.

They also cut veteran Austin Pasztor. A 2017 fourth-rounder, Harlow was a rookie inactive that struggled with the move to guard after playing tackle in college. He should resurface as a development project.

Falcons released OT Austin Pasztor.

The move saves $630,000 in cap space. Pasztor appeared in just seven games last year but has starting experience. He should draw free-agent interest.

Falcons waived S Ron Parker.

He tweeted the news himself. Parker became expendable when the Falcons acquired Jordan Richards from New England on Friday. The 31-year-old registered 67 tackles, two forced fumbles and two interceptions over 1,032 defensive snaps for Kansas City last season. He shouldn't be on the market for long.

Vikings claimed FB Luke McNitt off waivers from the Falcons.

McNitt was waived yesterday after the Falcons signed Jalston Fowler. C.J. Ham currently plays the position in Minnesota, but he averaged merely 1.9 YPC on seven rushing attempts last season. The two will likely compete for a single roster spot for the remainder of camp.

Falcons waived FB Luke McNitt.

The Falcons no longer needed him after signing former Titans and Seahawks fullback Jalston Fowler. Atlanta also waived WR Taj Williams on Monday while taking a free-agent flyer on UDFA WR Julian Williams.

Falcons WR Calvin Ridley suffered a hamstring injury Saturday.

The Falcons will receive an update on Ridley's injury tomorrow, though it initially appears to be minor. Falcons DE Takk McKinley also suffered a hamstring bruise Saturday. Ridley stands to run a majority of his routes opposite Julio Jones while Mohamed Sanu and Austin Hooper man the middle of the field this season.
Sat, Jul 28, 2018 12:16:00 PM

Falcons waived WR Devin Fuller.

Drafted as a seventh-round pick out of UCLA in 2016, Fuller never saw the field during his two years with Atlanta. He spent all of last year on injured reserve after tearing his ACL at training camp. The 24-year-old offers 4.37 speed and should be able to catch on elsewhere as a camp body, assuming his knee is at or near full strength.
Fri, Jun 29, 2018 04:24:00 PM

Titans signed WR Nick Williams, formerly of the Falcons.

Williams knows new OC Matt LaFleur from their time together with both the Redskins and Falcons. He'll compete for one of the very last 53-man jobs.
