The Falcons will interview ex-Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell for their QBs coach vacancy.

The Falcons are also interviewing ex-Panthers QBs coach Ken Dorsey. Bevell spent the past seven seasons coordinating the Seahawks' offense, earning increasingly-negative reviews.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports ex-UCLA OC Jedd Fisch will be a top candidate to replace Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian if he leaves for the Seahawks.

Per La Canfora, "many expect" Sarkisian to be the Seahawks' next OC. Fisch was last in the NFL as the Jaguars' OC in 2013-2014 but was fired after two lackluster seasons. He's since worked with Jim Harbaugh at Michigan and Jim Mora at UCLA. Mora was fired this past season, leaving Fisch out of a job under new coach Chip Kelly. Fisch and Falcons coach Dan Quinn worked together in Seattle in 2010. It would be a very uninspiring hire for the Falcons' offense.

Free agent CB Leodis McKelvin worked out for the Falcons on Thursday.

Desmond Trufant (concussion) is expected to miss Week 13, while Brian Poole (back) is questionable. McKelvin would provide veteran insurance, though it's hard to see how he would be ready for snaps on Sunday.

Falcons waived CB Jalen Collins.

Collins was set to be activated from a 10-game PED ban, his second steroid suspension. Instead, the Falcons are moving on from the No. 42 overall pick of the 2015 draft. Still only 24, Collins played well down the stretch in 2016. Collins may clear waivers so teams don't have to pick up his contract, but he will undoubtedly get another chance.

Free agent CB Byron Maxwell visited the Falcons.

Maxwell and coach Dan Quinn know each other well from their time together in Seattle. Maxwell would be an experienced addition for the Falcons' underperforming defense, but not an impact one.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn suggested free agent DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the team.

Freeney managed three sacks on limited snaps last season in Atlanta, and they could use some help with Vic Beasley set to miss a month with a torn hamstring. Quinn said Freeney is on their radar, and they still talk to him "on a regular basis." If Freeney decides to play -- Quinn said he "certainly wants to" -- it sounds like the Falcons will be interested.

Falcons waived DT Ra'Shede Hageman.

Facing charges from an alleged domestic violence incident in March of 2016, Hageman was placed on the commissioner's exempt list on Saturday. In a statement announcing the transaction, the organization said it decided "to move forward without Hageman ... after a thorough investigative process by local authorities." Hageman is likely looking at a lengthy suspension, and his NFL future is bleak.

Falcons waived RB Jhurell Pressley, QB, Alek Torgersen, WR Anthony Dable, WR Josh Magee, WR Reggie Davis, WR Marvin Hall, WR Deante Burton, RB Kelvin Taylor, TE Darion Griswold, TE Joshua Perkins, FB Tyler Renew, C Travis Averill, C Larson Graham, C Cornelius Edison, OT Andreas Knappe, OT D.J. Tialavea, OT Daniel Brunskill, DE A.J. Jefferson, DE Joe Vellano, DE J'Terius Jones, DE Chris Odom, DT Taniela Tupou, CB Jarnor Jones, CB Akeem King, LB Jack Lynn, S Marcelis Branch and K Mike Meyer.

DE Martin Ifedi, LB Josh Keyes and QB Matt Simms were waived/injured. It's a quiet list for the defending NFC champions.

Free agent Dwight Freeney informed the Falcons he's ready to re-sign.

"He wants to play," said coach Dan Quinn. "I’d say he’s further along in the decision than he was last year." The Falcons could use another edge rusher with Takk McKinley (shoulder) and Adrian Clayborn (biceps) rehabbing injuries. Freeney is 37 years old, but he excelled as a situational pass rusher last season and was arguably Atlanta's best defender in the Super Bowl.

Free agent DE Dwight Freeney said he's been in communication with the Falcons and is "optimistic" he'll re-sign with them at some point.

It's possible the Falcons want a mentor for first-round edge rusher Takk McKinley. Freeney would be a perfect fit as someone who has played 15 seasons and knows coach Dan Quinn's defense. Even at 37, Freeney remained a highly productive pass rusher across 539 snaps for the Falcons last season.

The NFL is giving all four NFC South teams an extra practice squad spot in 2017 reserved for an international player.

The catch is the player has been picked for them as part of the NFL’s international player pathway program, with the Falcons landing former English rugby player TE Alex Gray, the Panthers getting DE Efe Obada, the Saints drawing DE Alex Jenkins, and the Bucs landing LB Eric Nzeocha. The players are not allowed to be activated this season, but it is a great opportunity for them to improve while working with an NFL squad.

Free agent OG Andrew Gardner visited the Falcons.

Gardner spent most of 2016 out of the league before making a late season spot start for the 49ers. The Falcons have an opening at guard with Chris Chester retired, but Gardner wouldn’t be more than depth.

Free agent DT Sean Lissemore is visiting the Falcons on Wednesday.

Lissemore missed all of last season after getting hurt early in training camp. Turning 30 later this year, this is the first visit for Lissemore in free agency.

Falcons OG Hugh Thornton is retiring after four NFL seasons.

The No. 86 overall pick of the 2013 draft, Thornton made 32 starts for the Colts between 2013-15, but struggled mightily with injury. He missed all of 2016 with a foot issue. He turns 26 in June.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Falcons are "plotting a potential move" up from No. 31.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported something similar last week. The move would almost certainly be for a specific player, and not a specific need. A pass rusher is one possibility. Tennessee's Derek Barnett and Missouri's Charles Harris are two players who could be available in the low '20s.

Free agent OT Jake Long announced his retirement after nine seasons.

As we head into draft week, Long, the No. 1 overall pick in 2008, hangs up his cleats. As soon as he stepped on the field, Long was one of the premier left tackles in the sport. He made the Pro Bowl each of his first four seasons and was named a first-team All Pro in 2010. In 2011, injuries started to ruin Long's career. He suffered a back injury, snapping a 61-game starting streak, then tore his biceps later in the year. Long signed a four-year deal with the Rams in 2013 and suffered his second torn ACL in 2014. He made pit stops with the Falcons and Vikings in 2015 and 2016 and suffered a torn Achilles' last year with Minnesota, effectively ending his career.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons are looking to trade up from No. 31 in the draft.

The Falcons are targeting a pass rusher and top defensive ends Derek Barnett and Charles Harris will surely be gone by the time Atlanta picks at 31st overall. "To move up in the 20s, there will be opportunities there," said GM Thomas Dimitroff. "There are some interesting candidates that will be around there in the early parts of the 20s." The Falcons may have to do better than that if they want a real shot at landing Barnett or Harris. In his latest mock, Josh Norris has Barnett going to Cincinnati at No. 9 with Harris coming off the board at 14 to Philadelphia.

Free agent WR Roddy White retired from the NFL after 11 seasons.

White was out of the league last season after getting cut by the Falcons in 2016. White faded late in his career, but he'll still go down as one of the better receivers of the last 15 years. In his prime, White recorded six straight 1,000-yard seasons, earning four Pro Bowl nods in that span. He'll retire as Atlanta's all-time leader in catches (808), receiving yards (10,863) and receiving touchdowns (63). All of those records should eventually be broken by Julio Jones.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter believes the Falcons "could be a good fit" for Richard Sherman.

It's merely dot connecting by Ledbetter, who has been on the Falcons' beat for years. Coach Dan Quinn was Sherman's defensive coordinator in Seattle. And Atlanta could use another top-end corner opposite Desmond Trufant. If the Falcons are serious about getting over their Super Bowl collapse, adding Sherman would be a huge get. It would certainly take their first-rounder plus more.

Free agent FB Will Johnson recently visited the Jets and Falcons.

Johnson missed all of last season with nerve trouble in his shoulder. He's a competent blocker when healthy and also has some experience as a ball carrier.
