DeMarcus Cousins will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and the Mavericks are expected to pursue not only Cousins, but also DeAndre Jordan and restricted free agent Julius Randle.

It may be nothing, but Cousins was caught liking an Instagram comment that said he should be paid the max. The Mavs would more than likely offer that if talks were to get serious. As for Jordan, everyone remembers his fiasco with the Mavs and Clips back in 2015 when he went back on his verbal agreement to go to Dallas, so it comes as somewhat of a surprise they would still be interested. Randle's decision will be affected by how the Lakers handle his restricted free agency.

Michael Carter-Williams received a phone call from the Rockets at the start of free agency.

ESPN's Marc Spears is reporting that MCW is also drawing interest from the Knicks, Thunder, Mavericks, Pelicans and Hornets. Carter-Williams is coming off a disappointing season in which he averaged career-lows in points (6.6), assists (2.5), FG percentage (.366) and assist rate (.200). However, the former Rookie of the Year is still just 25 years old and possesses a rare combination of size and skill.

The Mavericks are expected to pursue Kyle Lowry in free agency, a source told Basketball Insider's Alex Kennedy.

We're just not buying this one. The Mavs have openly embraced the youth movement, done everything in their power to name Dennis Smith Jr. their guy of the future and have to deal with Nerlens Noel's restricted free agency as their clear priority. Hard pass, Ice Man.

The Mavericks and Timberwolves reportedly discussed a trade involving Wes Matthews and the No. 9 pick for Ricky Rubio and the No. 7 pick, but those talks are now "dead."

"Dallas does not feel urgency to move up from No. 9," according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. This is also a vote of confidence in Wes Matthews, who is coming off another rough shooting season in which he averaged 13.5 points on 39.3 percent shooting. Rubio's name has been in the rumor mill for years, so this is nothing new.

J.J. Hickson worked out for the Mavericks on Monday.

Hickson spent the past year playing overseas in China, but it looks like he's trying to get back into the NBA. Maybe he can fetch a minimum level deal to serve as a veteran presence on an NBA roster, but he's entirely irrelevant in terms of fantasy hoops.

The Nets, 76ers and Mavericks have all reportedly expressed interest in bringing Jan Vesely back to the NBA.

Vesely was taken with the No. 6 overall selection in the 2011 NBA draft, but he failed to live up to expectations and was out of the league after three seasons in which he compiled averages of just 3.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. However, he's reportedly improved overseas, so maybe he can work his way back into the NBA as a role player off the bench. If he does come stateside, he'd need to be bought out of his contract with Fenerbache of Turkey.
