Miguel Britos and Kiko Femenia are close to their returns from injury and will hope to ease Watford's injury crisis by participating against Everton.

The Hornets injury list has been something to rival peak Arsenal. The walking wounded are slowly returning to health and the arrival of Everton on Saturday may see the Hornets welcome the returns of Heurelho Gomes, Will Hughes, Kiko Femenia, and Miguel Britos. It is hard to imagine that all of the above will start or even participate but the good news is that the state of the squad is steadily improving as Watford look to stay out of the relegation fray.

Will Hughes was magical for his brief period of good health earlier this season and Watford will hope that he is both ready to participate in Week 28 and prepared to reprise his starring role.

Hughes came to Watford over the summer with the reputation for being both talented and brittle. He has lived up to the former label briefly and the latter for most of the season. Hughes may return against Everton but his injury history may cause the Hornets to be conservative with his playing time until he proves that he can stay on the pitch. Look for a substitute appearance at most in Week 28 with his participation increasing in the coming weeks. Definitely one to watch as a late-season fantasy waiver wire addition in draft-style leagues if he can stay healthy.

Heurelho Gomes has recovered from his back injury and should be available to start for Watford against Everton on Saturday in Week 28 Premier League action.

The Hornets' number one has been missing for the better part of a month with a back injury and Watford have continued to struggle without him. In fairness, the Hornets had been struggling before the Brazilian went out injured and his return may not offer a significant change of fortunes as they still have a long list of other injury-enforced absences. The visit of a struggling Everton side is likely more important than whether Gomes returns in net or not.

Javi Gracia will run the rule over a number of players as the Hornets travel to West Ham.

The new Watford manager is currently riding on the crest of a wave following Monday nights’ superb 4-1 victory over London rivals Chelsea at Vicarage Road, a win which heaped pressure on opposing boss Antonio Conte. Gracia described the performance as "unforgettable" but insists: "It's only three points and we try to get the next three points in the next game." What made the win even more remarkable was the fact that Watford went into the match with 11 first-team players sidelined. The included the likes of Heurelho Gomes [back], Tom Cleverley [hamstring] and the latest victim Christian Kabasele who sat out alongside long-term absentees Younes Kaboul, Nathaniel Chalobah and Kiko Femenía. Fortunately, Gracia was able to call upon January signings Dodi Lukebakio and Didier Ndong to add numbers to the bench while Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu stole the show with a man-of-the-match performance to take the Hornets six-points above the bottom three.

Troy Deeney faces the prospect of another domestic ban following his controversial celebration against Chelsea.

The Watford captain raised his middle finger in both hands as he wheeled away having opening the scoring at Vicarage Road on Monday night. Match official Mike Dean missed the incident, but the Football Association is expected to review video footage, and if found guilty, Deeney could miss the next four games. The ban for a player using an offensive hand gesture carries an automatic two-match suspension, but because the hot-tempered forward has already been reprimanded twice this season, he would receive an additional two-games. When asked to explain the gesture, Deeney, who has heavily linked with a move away from Watford said. "Obviously, we have had a lot of transfer talk and transfer speculation. I've kept quiet because I realise talking gets me in trouble. That was a case of letting everyone know I saw everything and I am still here." Watford face West Ham, Everton, West Brom and Arsenal in the coming weeks.

Watford produced a stunning finale to beat 10 man Chelsea 4-1 at Vicarage Road in the final match of Gameweek 26.

After the first half an hour, Watford had nothing to show for their dominance over a sluggish Chelsea side. Then, Tiemoue Bakayoko, who had been having a torrid night since kick-off, received his second yellow card and marching orders after a foul on Richarlison. Watford continued to pressure and were rewarded just before the interval when they went up 1-0 owing to a Deeney penalty, won by Deulofeu. Despite continued dominance by the home side, The Blues drew level thanks to a piece of magic from Eden Hazard on 82', that goal coming shortly after Chelsea's first shot on target all night. Unbelievably, Watford struck back instantly, first through Daryl Janmaat and immediately after through Deulofeu. Instead of mustering an attempt at a comeback, Chelsea were cowed, conceding a fourth through a stunner from substitute Roberto Pereyra in injury time. A great home debut for Javi Gracia but as for Antonio Conte.. the pressure mounts and a potential sacking looms after another humiliation.

Javi Gracia will make a late decision on the availability of Tom Cleverley after he limped off against Stoke on Wednesday evening.

The Hornets midfielder managed 72 minutes on his return having missed the two previous matches due to a hamstring related problem. Watford play Chelsea on Monday evening, and the extra recovery days will help, but if Cleverley fails to recover, then Roberto Pereyra is expected to deputise with Will Hughes still sidelined. Gracia confirms Heurelho Gomes [back], Craig Cathcart [knee] and Younès Kaboul [foot] are not yet ready to return. Meanwhile, new signing Didier Ndong is banned as he serves the final game of a three-match suspension incurred at Sunderland. Miguel Britos, Nathaniel Chalobah and Kiko Femenía are also ruled out. "But I hope, like the other players who are injured, that they will be back soon," said the new Watford manager.

Didier Ndong arrives from Sunderland to help stem the tide of goals conceded and midfield injuries suffered at Vicarage Road and he could debut against Chelsea on Monday.

Watford have been bleeding goals and healthy players for multiple months now and the arrival of Didier Ndong from Sunderland is expected to help stabilize the base of midfield. Best known for his defensive contributions, Ndong offers at least something going forward with three assists to his name in the Championship over sixteen starts with Sunderland in the first half of the season. The Hornets will hope he can help create a platform for Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Cleverley as they look to spark an attack that has cooled significantly since the early weeks of the season. Look for Ndong to get at least some playing time against Chelsea and to do well in fantasy formats that reward peripheral defensive stats like tackles won and interceptions.

Heurelho Gomes will miss another match with his back injury as the Hornets host champions Chelsea at Vicarage Road on Monday.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper is still suffering from back spasms and has been ruled out of the Monday Night Football match against Chelsea. Orestes Kamezis will attempt to pick up a second consecutive clean sheet after the Hornets drew nil-nil at the Bet365 Stadium in mid-week. Even with Chelsea's recent struggles it seems unlikely that the streak will reach two clean sheets in a row.

Stoke City and Watford played to a listless draw at the Bet365 Stadium on deadline day.

It's a good thing there was a lot of transfer news over the course of the day because this match was dismal. Six total shots on target and no goals meant a rough outing for those who watched. Both clubs have been struggling so neither will object to a point but neither will be particularly satisfied either.

Tom Cleverley has returned to training following a hamstring injury but his status was listed as doubtful for the match at Stoke City on Wednesday.

The Hornets are in full-blown injury crisis of the variety that would even make Arsene Wenger shake his head in sympathy. With twelve players who have been in/around the first eleven this season all listed as either definitively out or doubtful for Week 25, it will be an uphill battle for new manager Javi Garcia. The new manager will at least hold out a little hope that Tom Cleverley will return to bolster the attacking midfield but even that is questionable. Etienne Capoue was given a life-line in FA Cup action over the weekend and could get another start if Cleverley is unable to start.

Troy Deeney, amid rumors of a potential departure, will miss out on Watford's Week 25 match at Stoke City due to an illness.

While the rumors of Deeney moving to West Brom seem to have cooled after Albion landed Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool, the timing of Deeney's illness is, at least, suspicious. His form and playing time certainly suffered under Marco Silva but with a new manager in Javi Garcia at Vicarage Road, Deeney is presumably at another crossroads. A year removed from being the club's standout performer the outcomes for Deeney post-Week 25 vary wildly. He could be transferred, he could remain in the doghouse, he could continue to split time with Andre Gray, or he could see himself reborn under new management. Consider yourself warned that Deeney is a 2nd half lottery ticket that could go just about any way.

Jan 30 - 10:23 AM

Heurelho Gomes has added to Watford's injury crisis with back spasms which have seen him miss out on the FA Cup loss over the weekend and likely to miss the trip to Stoke City on Wednesday.

The former Spurs goalkeeper has seen his fortunes vary with the overall fortunes of the club. He started out the season on fire with the Hornets rocketing up the table. As the rumors swirled around Marco Silva moving to Everton, the Brazilian saw his form and results both dip with those of his teammates. As a new manager arrives to try to establish some stability in the wake of Silva's controversial departure he will have to make due without Gomes for at brief time as the goalkeeper recovers from back spasms. Orestes Karnezis will likely deputize for Gomes.

Molla Wague joins a long list of Watford defenders as potentially missing for the trip to the Bet365 Stadium on Wednesday.

Molla Wague is struggling with a hamstring injury and is rated as doubtful for Watford's Week 25 match against Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium. Wague joins Herurelho Gomes, Miguel Britos, Kiko Femenia, Younes Kaboul, and Craig Cathcart as either ruled out or doubtful for the match against the Potters and that's just the injuries at the back. The Hornets will also likely be missing Will Hughes, Tom Cleverley, Nathan Chalobah, and Troy Deeney with various ailments. Not an easy start to life at the club for new manager Javi Garcia.

Gerard Deulofeu's shock arrival at Vicarage Road this week could end with him making his Hornets debut in Week 25 against Stoke City.

The acquisition of Deulofeu by Watford came out of left field to say the least. The Barcelona man was rumored to be leaving the Camp Nou but Watford hadn't been mooted as a destination until the deal was nearly done. It does set up an intriguing potential front three of Richarlison and Deulofeu flanking Troy Deeney (or Andre Gray) with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Cleverley pulling the strings. That's hardly a threat to the top six but in the race for seventh it is at least a credible entry in the race featuring pace, skill, invention, and power. Deulofeu, when he has played regularly, has been a solid fantasy asset in traditional fantasy scoring systems and a step above solid in systems that reward peripheral contributions.
