Nathan Chalobah has missed nearly the entire season due to a knee injury but could play some part against Manchester United on Sunday as his recovery continues.

The former Chelsea youth product came into the season with high hopes based on the opportunity to play some serious minutes in the top flight out from under the oppressive depth chart at Chelsea. He showed some signs of quality early before a September knee injury derailed what was supposed to be a breakout season. Even if he only appears as a substitute on the final day of the season it will be a big move back toward the starting line-up next season at Watford.

Roberto Pereyra scored in the 2nd minute and added an assist as Watford beat Newcastle in Week 37 action

The former Juventus man wasn't a sure thing to participate but not only did he take part but turned in the starting performance. Neither team had a great deal to play for but the Hornets came out strong at home with two first half goals. The let Newcastle pull one back in the second half but ended up sending their fans home happy.

Watford midfielder Roberto Pereyra faces a late fitness test ahead of the Week 37 visit of Newcastle.

With more than half of the Premier League sides having two matches during Match Week 37, Watford players, who only have a single match this match week, were already on depressed fantasy value. With news coming down that Pereyra is not certain to be healthy it reduces the former Juventus man's fantasy value to nearly nil for Match Week 37.

Watford's struggles away from home only continued to plague the club with a 2-0 loss to Spurs adding to a dubious streak.

The Hornets have now gone winless in their last seven Premier League games, but their road woes truly show the worst of the side with Javi Gracia yet to win away from home as the club has now gone more than 630 minutes without a goal on the road. Watford actually recorded more shots on target than their hosts, but were wasteful in front of goal. Their best chances came just before the half when Hugo Lloris denied them twice, with Richarlison nearly adding his name to the scoring sheet. With the loss, Watford only sits six points above Southampton, who has a game in hand, in the bottom three.

Manager Javi Gracia provided a mixed injury update ahead of his sides trip to Wembley on Monday night.

While the Hornets look safe on 38-points, a draw against Tottenham would guarantee top-flight football for another season. And Watford have been boosted by the timely return of Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu who is back in contention following a return to training: "I am an optimist, and I think in the next games, he can play," said Gracia. "He’s not in best condition but I think he can help us." There was also good news regarding Troy Deeney who left Vicarage Road last weekend with his right ankle in a protective cast. Despite initial concerns that the captains season was over, it appears the support had been applied as a precaution and he was back with the group on Friday. However, Stefano Okaka "has a serious [thigh] problem" which is likely to mean the striker will miss the rest of the campaign. If Gracia decides to continue with a 4-4-2, then forgotten man Andre Gray could be handed his first league start in over two months.
Apr 28 - 6:06 AM

Javi Gracia remains hopeful that Roberto Pereyra can still play a part in the season run-in despite limping off with an apparent groin injury on Saturday.

The Watford winger was replaced by Richarlison after 55 minutes and the out-of-form Brazilian, who has been linked with a move away from the club, made a positive impact from the bench. He could have won the game against fellow strugglers Crystal Palace were it not for a good low down save by Wayne Hennessey late on. The club are expected to provide an update on the status of Pereyra as part of their weekly pre-match media briefing, although manager Gracia was "confident he will be available". Last Saturdays draw put Watford on 38-points and barring a comeback of Lazarus proportions by Stoke and Southampton, then the Hornets are safe and there would be no need to risk players unnecessarily. Sebastian Prodl [illness] is expected to return this weekend while Younes Kaboul has been training fully although he lacks conditioning.

Troy Deeney could miss the remaining games after sustaining a foot / ankle injury during the goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

There has been no official update, but the Watford captain was seen leaving Vicarage Road on Saturday with his right foot in a protective boot. This lightweight removable cast allows partial weight-bearing and helps prevent further damage - it is often applied as a precautionary measure until a player can be fully assessed. The boot can be used for a number of different injuries ranging from a sprained ankle to a metatarsal fracture. Deeney has endured a difficult season, missing the first six weeks of the campaign following groin surgery, while suspension saw the club talisman sidelined for a total of seven matches. Stefano Okaka made his first league start since December last weekend, and if manager Javi Gracia decides to stick with a 4-4-2 for the trip to Tottenham on Monday, then club-record signing Andre Gray is likely to be named as his strike partner.

Watford fans can exhale with the club closing in on safety following a scoreless draw at home with Crystal Palace.

The Hornets can mathematically secure safety with a win next weekend and Southampton dropping points after the draw put them on 38 points this season. However, Watford couldn't manage to break its five-match winless streak—the club has only three goals in the last six matches and has been shut out in four of them. Those struggles continued on Saturday despite five shots on target. The hosts dominated the first half and nearly went ahead in the fourth minute when Stefano Okaka's header rattled off the crossbar. Otherwise, the defense held strong for the clean sheet, allowing only one shot on target in a game that featured eight yellow cards.

Gerard Deulofeu made a quick impact at Vicarage Road but injury and now illness have derailed his season at Watford and look likely to continue to do so in Week 35.

The Hornets don't have much incentive to push Deulofeu given that their position in the Premier League next season is secure. Their Week 35 match-up is much more important for Crystal Palace than it is for the home-standing Hornets. Players like Deulofeu, Sebastian Prodl and others who have been ill will not be pushed. On the heels of only four goals over their past six Premier League matches including being shut out in Week 34, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see more listless action from the home side as the season winds down at the Vitality Stadium.

Watford could have both Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele back from injury for the Week 34 trip to Huddersfield Town.

Slowly the injury crisis at the back is abating for Team Pozzo. It has seemed for much of the year that at least three or four starting-quality defenders have been on the sidelines with Cathcart having spent most of the season there and Kabasele having been on-again/off-again with the trainer. Both could be back against the Terriers although it seems unlikely that both would start coming off of injuries. Look for one, probably Kabasele, to start and the other to bide their time with a substitute appearance.

Roberto Pereyra got the goal to open the scoring but for the second straight week, Watford lost points from a winning position as they fell 2-1 to Burnley.

Starting Kiko Femina in an advanced position for the second straight game, Watford came out the box quickly pressuring Burnley. Nick Pope stood on his head to deny Watford the early lead but in the 61st minute, the Hornets found their breakthrough. Pereyra took a clearance and fired an unstoppable shot past Nick Pope. But later in the half, Sean Dyche introduced Sam Vokes into the game and the tides changed quickly. Within three minutes Vokes and Jack Cork buried headers to deny Watford any points for their exploits.
Apr 7 - 1:43 PM

After missing most of the season due to injury, Craig Cathcart is healthy and ready to contribute to the Hornets.

Coming off of the bench versus Bournemouth was Cathcart's second appearance and his first since August and it was very important to see how he felt after playing. During pressers, Javi Gracia said, "He is available. I think he is very happy because he is back with the team and he wants to help us in these last six games." This is important as Watford has been unable to field a stable backline for most of the season but that could soon change as more of their defenders are returning to full fitness.
Apr 6 - 7:43 PM

After missing last week's 2-2 draw versus Bournemouth, now fit Miguel Britos will return to the matchday squad for Watford.

While the 32-year-old has only featured 12 times for Watford on the season, Javi Gracia will welcome the additional depth as Christian Kabasele returns to fitness for the Hornets.
Apr 6 - 6:54 PM

Craig Cathcart has had a lot of work to do getting sharp again after a long injury-induced layoff but this could be the weekend he returns to action.

Given the duration of Cathcart's absence, you have to expect that his first action will come as a substitute and, given Watford's situation in the table, only if the match is secure one way or the other. Given how prolific Liverpool, Watford's Week 31 opponent, have been this may not be the best time to reinsert a center back returning from a knee injury. Something to keep track of later in the match for those looking for a potential depth addition in draft fantasy leagues down the stretch.

Heurelho Gomes could make his return to the Watford line-up after missing out against Arsenal last weekend.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has had an injury-interrupted second half of the season but he could finally be in the clear. The Hornets are slowly returning to health save those long-term absentees like Nathan Chalobah and Younes Kaboul. This weekend potentially sees the return of stalwarts Craig Cathcart and Gomes. Watford have lots of adequate depth so the impact isn't likely to be massive but it certainly helps to have your preferred number one back in the squad.
