Jose Holebas scored a deflected goal in the 82nd to give Watford a point on their travels to the South Coast.

After a disappointing match against Newcastle last weekend Watford were surely nervous going into the end of the match at Southampton down 1-0. A late Jose Holebas goal rescued a point and saved them from a disastrous two-match stretch against the dregs of the league.

Troy Deeney has been training in the wake of his hamstring injury and could return to play some part against Southampton on Saturday.

The stout forward seems unlikely to be thrown straight back into the starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring injury. It is more likely that he will be eased back into the starting group after a week on the bench. With an international break coming up, getting Deeney a little action and then some additional time to get back to full fitness and sharpness is likely the prudent course of action, especially given the opposition.

Etienne Capoue has been suspended for Week 12 due to the accumulation of 5 yellow cards and will miss the Hornets' trip to Southampton.

Etienne Capoue has been very effective for the Hornets this season as they have generally outperformed expectations under Javier Gracia's management. Despite selling their best attacker in Richarlison, the Hornets have pushed on and stayed in the top half of the table for most of the season thus far. Missing Capoue, an integral part of their midfield, will hurt but Nathaniel Chalobah is back from injury and provides a better-than-average deputy. Given Southampton's struggles, expecting an away win isn't a bad bet.

Watford couldn't do much against relegation-threatened Newcastle in a 1-0 loss at St. James Park on Saturday.

Coming off two straight shutout wins, the Hornets could only manage one shot on target against Newcastle, giving the Magpies their first win of the season. The club's best chance came in the 92nd minute when Abdoulaye Doucouré found Stefano Okaka in front of goal for a perfect chance at equalizing, but Okaka skied the effort. Isaac Success continues to start up top in the absence of Troy Deeney, his third straight week starting. A win would have seen the Hornets jump into fifth place, but instead they drop behind Manchester United and into eighth.

Troy Deeney hasn't been ruled out entirely but he has struggled to recover from a hamstring injury and the smart money is that it will be another week.

With toothless Newcastle the opposition, it hardly makes sense for Javi Gracia to rush Troy Deeney back into the squad. Watford are playing well enough that they should expect a result at St James Park with or without Deeney. Giving him an extra week to recover looks like the smart strategy. At most, we might see him on the bench for a late cameo if Watford are searching for a winner or an equalizer down the stretch.

Nathaniel Chalobah will be available again to Javi Gracia after missing out following an injury picked up on England duty.

Chalobah is unlikely to get a start given how effective Etienne Capoue and Abdoulaye Doucoure have been over the last couple of matches. Look for Chalobah to be worked slowly back into the rotation give his injury issues as well as the quality in front of him. His return does provide great depth for a mid-table side looking to position themselves for a possible Europa League place.

Roberto Pereyra scored his fifth goal of the season as Watford secured their sixth win of the term with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Pereyra danced through a clutch of five Town defenders before sending a composed finish past Jonas Lossl. Gerard Duelofeu doubled their advantage nine minutes later with another superb effort, finding the far corner of the net from an improbable angle for his first goal of the season. Duelofeu could have added to his tally in the second half but scuffed his shot wide of an unguarded net after rounding Lossl. The missed chance ultimately made no difference though, as Isaac Success tapped home Watford's third with 10 minutes remaining. The win sees the Hornets move on to 19 points and remain seventh in the table, while winless Huddersfield stays bottom of the table with three points.

Nathan Chalobah will be assessed ahead of the visit of Huddersfield Town to Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Chalobah did not make his return to the Hornets' line-up last weekend as he continues to recover from a knee issue. With Watford back on track it would be reasonable to guess that Javi Gracia will not be rushing the former Chelsea youth product back into the line-up. Expect a slow build back with Chalobah being given the opportunity to ease into Premier League action behind Etienne Capoue and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Watford will be sweating on the fitness of forward Troy Deeney ahead of the weekend against Huddersfield Town.

The Hornets captain missed the 2-0 weekend win against Wolverhampton after failing to recover from a hamstring injury. But while Daryl Janmaat and Sebastian Prodl have already been ruled outof the weekend, Deeney at least has a slight chance, albeit slim, to recover with one day in training left this week. "In Troy Deeney and Nathaniel Chalobah we have two players who are working away from the team and we will have to see if they can help us or not," manager Javi Gracia said. "I have doubts if Troy will be back, he is in the same process of recovery from the original injury and I do not know if he will be available or not."

Abdoulaye Doucoure assisted on both goals less than a minute apart as Watford traveled to the Molineux and beat form team Wolves 2-0 to halt a 5 match winless drought.

Proof that momentum is great for stories in the media but meaningless when it comes to predicting results. Wolves had all of the positive signs. They were playing at home. They have been on a hot streak. Their opponents, Watford, were struggling mightily. Easy, home win, right? Not so fast. Doucoure's assists to Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra in the 20th and 21st minutes respectively were all the scoring that this match would see and Watford would need to reverse the momentum of both clubs coming into the match.
Oct 20 - 12:55 PM

Nathan Chalobah played for England over the international break but a setback in training has him questionable ahead of the Hornets' Week 9 trip to the Molineux.

Chalobah arrived at Watford with some fanfare as a high potential Chelsea academy product who was touted as being very good but not quite good enough to go straight into the Chelsea first team. After loan after loan he made a permanent move to Watford in search of a regular job. No sooner did he get his move away from Stamford Bridge than he suffered a significant knee injury. Even at his best and playing regularly, he is unlikely to be a major fantasy contributor but his availability and talents may improve the value of other Watford players. His recovery is definitely worth watching closely.
Oct 19 - 5:48 PM

Javi Gracia has implied that Gerard Deulofeu is ready to go and, while he likely won't play 90 minutes, the wording of the manager's quote makes it seem like he may be the man to try to resuscitate the Hornets' attack.

Watford came out of the gate on fire but have faded badly over the past month. The solution that most thought would be in place from the start of the year to act as an attacking catalyst, Gerard Deulofeu, looks ready to come back just when his club is in need of his skills again. Apparently Jose Holebas can't do all the creating (and he's suspended this week anyway) and Troy Deeney has slowed to a crawl when it comes to scoring. Deulofeu should get every chance to change the attacking mix as a starter.
Oct 19 - 5:40 PM

Javi Gracia will be forced into a defensive reshuffle after the Football Association confirmed Jose Holebas and Christian Kabasele will be suspended in game week nine.

Holebas picked up a yellow card for a nasty late challenge on Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks on Saturday and becomes the first player in 2018/19 to accrue five bookings - from eight Premier League starts – which attracts an automatic one match ban. The Hornets boss will also be without Kabasele at Molineux following his first half dismissal to cap a truly miserable afternoon for the home side. Kabasele was already walking a tightrope following an overly strong challenge on Asmir Begovic after just 11 minutes. He then brought down Joshua King in the box - a challenge which earned him a second yellow and with it a one game suspension - allowing the visitors to double their lead from the spot. Daryl Janmaat [knee] will remain out against Wolverhampton Wanderers but Marc Navarro is hoping to shake off a minor injury.
Oct 8 - 5:33 PM

Christian Kabasele managed two yellow cards in 32 minutes and saw his team drop a 4-0 decision to Bournemouth Saturday.

Being sent off for two yellow cards in 32 minutes takes some work, and not the good kind. When your second such offense leads to a penalty goal that puts your side down 2-0, you've had a disaster. Even worse for Kabasele is that the resulting suspension comes as Sebastian Prodl and Miguel Britos return to health as potential alternatives.

Oct 6 - 12:15 PM

Marc Navarro's role as deputy to the injured Daryl Janmaat didn't last long as the former Espanyol man will miss Week 8 with a minor injury.

Javier Gracia wasn't very specific about the sort of injury that Navarro suffered or the prognosis beyond this week but what we know is that Navarro is out for the Week 8 clash with Bournemouth at Vicarage Road. Kiko Femenia is likely to take the starting role with both of his fellow right backs out injured this weekend and maybe beyond.
