Maurizio Sarri is hoping to have Real Madrid loanee Mateo Kovacic available on Thursday despite seeing the midfielder limp off during the win over Cardiff City.

The Chelsea boss revealed that he had spoken to the club doctor who confirmed Kovacic’s injury, which is believed to be a dead leg, is "nothing serious." Sarri may also be able to count on Cesc Fabregas following his return to full training. The Spaniard will use the next few days "to improve his physical condition" and barring a setback, he should be included in the travelling squad which will face Greek outfit PAOK Thessaloniki on Thursday. The availability of Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains uncertain after he suffered an injury to his right tibia when playing for England against Switzerland. "‘I hope he can recover in the next two or three days and maybe there is an opportunity that I can give him a chance [in the Europa League]. I don’t know now because I want to have a very clear picture of the situation."

Eden Hazard scored a hat-trick as Chelsea made it five wins from five matches with a 4-1 victory over Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge.

Cardiff shocked the host when Sol Bamba was on hand to turn home a headed flick-on from Sean Morrison on 16 minutes. However, Hazard's triple and a late strike by Willian saw Chelsea maintain their 100% start. The Belgian scored twice in seven minutes before halftime to put Chelsea in front, finishing from Olivier Giroud passes on both occasions. Hazard completed his treble from the penalty spot in the 80th-minute after following a foul by Bamba on Willian. The Brazilian, a second-half substitute for Pedro, then added a goal of his own with a long-range curling effort three minutes later.

Chelsea extended its perfect start to the season after second-half goals from Pedro and Eden Hazard secured a 2-0 home victory over Bournemouth.

Chelsea dominated the opening period at Stamford Bridge but struggled to make the vital breakthrough. Alvaro Morata and Willian forced a double-save from Asmir Begovic early-on while Marcos Alonso rattled the post on the brink of halftime. Nathan Ake missed a chance to put Bournemouth ahead when skied over the bar from three yards in the 59th minute. The nervy moment prompted the introduction of Olivier Giroud and Pedro and produced the opening goal soon after, with the Spaniard bagging his third goal of the season following a pass from his fellow substitute. In the 85th minute, Alsono set up Hazard to score for the second consecutive match and seal all three points. Four wins from four games under Maurizio Sarri place Chelsea second in the table, level on 12 points with table-toppers Liverpool.

Chelsea maintained their winning start under manager Maurizio Sarri with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

Chelsea dominated the match with 82% possession but had to wait until late in the second half to break the deadlock. Eden Hazard, on his first start of the term, scored from the penalty spot in the 76th minute to put the visitors ahead after Marcos Alonso was brought down by Fabian Schar. Newcastle responded out of nowhere when substitute Joselu levelled with a brilliant header from a DeAndre Yedlin cross in the 83rd minute. Rafael Benitez's side was steadfast in defence for the vast majority of the match, but the visitors earned their third successive win when Alonso's shot was deflected into his own net by Yedlin with just two minutes remaining. The defeat leaves Newcastle with just one point from three matches, while Chelsea now sits level on points with Liverpool and Watford at the top of the league table.

Marcos Alonso provided a first half assist and scored the winner as Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-2 after giving up a two goal lead in the first half.

Don't confuse this with a strong Chelsea performance. The Blues surrendered chance after chance to Arsenal who refused to take advantage of their hosts' largesse. The Blues took a 2-0 first half lead through Pedro and Alvaro Morata only to see the Gunners equalize through Mkhitaryan and Iwobi among a slew of chances unmarked at or around the penalty spot. The Blues tightened things up in the second half and Eden Hazard came on to spark his side to victory including the assist for Alonso's winner.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will miss Saturday's match against his former club Arsenal.

The Spanish midfielder has not featured since the Community Shield and remains unavailable for the weekend visit of Arsenal to Stamford Bridge. However, Maurizio Sarri hopes Fabregas will be able to return to training next week despite describing the problem as a minor, but strange, injury. "[It's] nothing serious, but he has a very unusual injury," said Sarri. "He has a pain, not in the knee, [but] near the knee." The Blues boss also noted that Real Madrid loanee Mateo Kovacic is unlikely to start but could feature off the bench. Ross Barkley got the nod against Huddersfield Town on Saturday and should continue starting until Fabregas and Kovacic are fully fit. Jorginho and N'Golo Kante will round out the midfield trio.

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has moved to AC Milan on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season after joining from Monaco in a deal worth £40 million. The French midfielder had fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Jorginho and later Mateo Kovacic, a loan signing from Real Madrid, and was left out of Maurizio Sarri's squad for the opening match of the Premier League season. Having failed to earn a place in Sarri's midfield trio, Bakayoko makes the temporary switch to the Serie A side on an initial loan move for the 2018/19 season.

Maurizio Sarri made an ideal start as a Premier League manager as his Chelsea side produced a clinical performance in a 3-0 win at Huddersfield Town.

After the Community Shield defeat last Sunday, Sarri's side fared much better in his first league match in charge. Both Kepa and Jorginho were in the starting XI while Cesar Azpilicueta operated at right-back in a 4-3-3 at the John Smith's Stadium. The Blues took the lead through an unlikely source in the 34th minute when N'Golo Kante volleyed home from close range, and a debut goal for Jorginho from the penalty spot doubled the lead shortly after. Eden Hazard was introduced late in the match and made an instant impact, playing in Pedro to seal all three points with a confident chip in the 80th minute. Kepa only needed to make one save, but the clean sheet will help his confidence ahead of a more robust task against Arsenal in their next match.

Chelsea have completed the signing of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge as part of the deal which saw Thibaut Courtois depart for Madrid. The Croatia international is a ball-playing central midfielder with experience playing in Serie A, La Liga, the Champions League and at two World Cups. Since Jorginho and N'Golo Kante set to feature in Maurizio Sarri's narrow midfield trio, Kovacic will compete with Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for regular first-team football. "We are very happy to welcome Mateo to the Chelsea family. He is a perfect fit for us this season, his style is well suited to how Maurizio wants to play, and we are sure he will prove to be a valuable asset for the club," said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.

Chelsea officially announced that Thibaut Courtois left the club and joined Real Madrid on a permanent deal.

The deal is said to be worth around £35m with Croatia international midfielder Mateo Kovacic moving to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan as part of the agreement. The Belgian number one departs after a four-year spell as Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper, having helped the club win two Premier League titles, as well as one FA Cup and one League Cup. The Blues have broken the world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper to replace Courtois, signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6m on a seven-year deal on Wednesday. Kepa trained with his new team-mates on Thursday and will be available for the Premier League opener against Huddersfield Town on Saturday. Kepa's arrival means Willy Caballero will serve as the number two this season.

The club will make Azzrizabalaga the most expensive goalkeeper in world football history by paying his £71.6 million release clause, a fee that will surpass the £66.8m that Liverpool paid for Alisson in July. The highly-rated 23-year-old has spent the past two seasons as Bilbao's first-choice custodian and served as Spain's number two behind David de Gea at the World Cup. His arrival at Stamford Bridge should set into motion Courtois' move to the Bernabéu, with reports suggesting the deal could see Mateo Kovacic join the Blues on loan.

Reports suggest that AC Milan are in discussions to sign Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on a season-long loan.

Bakayoko joined Chelsea from Monaco just over 12 months ago for £40m but drastically underwhelmed in his debut campaign in the Premier League. Chelsea currently have a talented collection of midfielders bettered suited for Maurizio Sarr's style of play with Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater. The Blues have also linked with a loan move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, further indicating that Bakayoko doesn't appear to be in Sarri's plans at Stamford Bridge. Any loan deal for Bakayoko, who did not make the bench for Sunday's Community Shield defeat, is expected to incorporate an option to buy clause.

Thibaut Courtois failed to report back for pre-season training on Monday as he tries to force through a £35m move to Real Madrid.

The Chelsea stopper was due at Cobham along with N’Golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and international teammates Eden Hazard and Michy Batshuayi following an extended break post-World Cup, but reports suggest Courtois is still in Belgium having made clear his desire to leave SW6. Speaking during Fridays press-conference, Maurizio Sarri said he was unsure if the goalkeeper would remain a Chelsea player: "I don't know in the future. It depends on the club, it depends especially on him, but I hope Courtois will be our goalkeeper," sentiments which were echoed following the 2-0 Community Shield defeat to Manchester City. The transfer window is scheduled to close at 5pm on Thursday for English clubs, and with time running out, they would need to move quick to find a suitable replacement. The Blues maybe forced into starting the campaign with Wily Caballero as Number One and Rob Green, 38, as back-up.

Maurizio Sarri admits it will be "difficult" to have those players involved in the final weekend of the World Cup ready for the opening game.

The new Chelsea boss was speaking after his sides 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Community Shield having arrived at Wembley without five first-team squad members. Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante, Olivier Giroud, Gary Cahill and Thibaut Courtois were all missing while Willian and Victor Moses had to settle with a role from the bench. "It’s difficult," said Sarri when asked if they could all feature at Huddersfield. "I hope so, especially for the goalkeeper, but it’s a bit difficult. We can do it for one or two players, no more." Ross Barkley has impressed in pre-season, but the former Everton playmaker isn’t a guaranteed starter: "I like him. He is a technical player. I like him very much. He has to improve in the defensive phase [and] it’s difficult in this moment to play with Jorginho, Cesc and Ross all together, but I like him and he will be very useful player for us."

New manager Maurizio Sarri said he expects Willian to remain at the club this summer despite reports linking him away.

Willian returned late to Chelsea's training camp after an impressive World Cup campaign with Brazil only to find himself in the middle of a fight between Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona for the 29-year-old's services in a £50 million-plus move, but Sarri said that he does not expect the Brazilian to leave the club this summer "Yes, very confident...I spoke yesterday with him about him being late, but not about his future. It was a very positive conversation. I am happy about it. There is not a problem with Willian."
