Gary Cahill’s Chelsea career is in serious doubt as Juventus defender Daniele Rugani looks set to become Maurizio Sarri’s second major signing.

The Italy international will cost in the region of £44m and is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around £77k per week. His arrival could bring to an end Cahill’s six-year association with the club and he will seek assurances over his future. Sarri was keen to stress that the 32-year-old still has a role to play: "In respect to Cahill he can still give us a lot," but the England international must accept that, going forward, opportunities will be limited. Rugani would join Jorginho, who signed from Napoli last week, and there could be more new faces at Stamford Bridge as Sarri looks to build a squad capable of improving on last seasons fifth place finish. Kasper Schmeichel is on the Chelsea radar with Thibaut Courtois attracting interest from Real Madrid, but if the Blues fail to lure the Denmark international away from Leicester then former goalkeeper Petr Cech could make a shock return.

Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has joined Leeds United on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old Chelsea Academy product returns to the Championship after spending last season loan at Sheffield United, where he made 33 appearances and kept nine clean sheets. Blackman links up with another Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker on loan at Leeds, after the latter moved to Elland Road in June. The 6ft 7in shot-stopper is expected to compete with fellow Leeds goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell for the number one shirt for the 2018/19 season.

Chelsea have announced its first signing of the summer with a permanent move for Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal to join his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, who was appointed at Chelsea earlier today, at Stamford Bridge. Jorginho was a crucial piece in Sarri's midfielder during their time together at Napoli. Between 2015 and 2017, the deep-lying playmaker provided four goals and 11 assists in 108 appearances in all competitions. A deep-lying playmaker known for his technical qualities, Jorginho is expected to be a regular alongside N'Golo Kante given his prior success in Sarri's fast-paced, possessioned-based style of play. Jorginho told Chelsea's official website: ‘I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team, so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win."

Chelsea Football Club officially announced the dismissal of manager Antonio Conte on Thursday.

Following months of speculation, the 48-year-old Italian has been relieved of his duties at the west London club. During Conte's first season in charge, Chelsea convincingly won its sixth Premier League title. The club won 30 of their 38 matches, a record at the time, and become the first to win the league with a 3-4-3 formation. The Blues claimed its eighth FA Cup trophy in May, but finished fifth in the league last season, missing out on Champions League qualification. Conte is expected to be replaced by former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri, who was named the Serie A Coach of the Year in 2016-17.

Izzy Brown admits his recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate has been "tough" but the Chelsea youngster is closing in on a return to action.

The 21-year-old was handed his chance to shine on the Premier League stage by Brighton manager Chris Hughton who signed Brown on a season-long loan at the beginning of 2017/18. Despite limited first-team opportunities, he made 14 appearances across all competitions before suffering a season-ending knee injury: "It was hard to take, because I never had a major injury like that before and to know that I’ll be out for the rest of the season was heart-breaking," Brown said of the injury he suffered against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup. "It’s been tough. There are different days; ups and downs. One day you can feel amazing, and then the next day you have a slight bit of pain..." Brown is likely to remain at Chelsea throughout the duration of his rehab with a view to successfully reintegrating himself back into the under-23 side once fully fit.

Chelsea have reportedly rejected a £50m bid for Willian from Barcelona.

The Brazilian winger cut a very frustrated figure at Stamford Bridge last season over his lack of game time which came to a head after the FA Cup final win over Manchester United. Willian entered the game as a 91st minute substitute despite being instrumental in helping Chelsea to reach the final. The 29-year-old posted pictures of the post-match celebrations on his Instagram account but completely obscured manager Antonio Conte by using emojis of the cup. Willian won the Players’ Player of the Year award despite making only 20 Premier League starts and his strike against Brighton, during a 4-nil win in January, won him the Goal of the Season trophy. While all talk of a transfer has been put on hold until after the World Cup, Willian is bound to garner a lot of interest, and with Brazil expected to go deep in Russia, Chelsea may just be hoping that his performances can start a bidding frenzy.

Eden Hazard was awarded the man-of-the-match award as Belgium comfortably breezed past Costa Rica on Monday. However, his night ended on a sour note.

The Chelsea playmaker looked in discomfort as he limped to the side-lines after he was replaced with 20 minutes remaining. Belgium were leading 4-1 and supporters will be hoping his withdrawal was more of a precaution with the Red Devils kicking off their World Cup campaign in just seven days. Post-match manager Roberto Martinez played down the problem confirming Hazard is fine: "At the end he just came off because he had a little bit of a dead leg. Nothing to be worried about." There was also an injury scare involving Dries Mertens who was forced off early in the second half with an apparent hamstring issue. The Napoli attacker played an integral part in his country’s qualification for the finals, scoring 5-goals from his eight starts, but if tests reveal a muscular tear then an appearance in Russia seems highly unlikely. Vincent Kompany was not named in the match-day squad.

Didier Deschamps said Olivier Giroud "should be ready" for France’s Group C opener on June 16 after he was forced off because of injury on Saturday evening.

The Chelsea forward was involved in a sickening clash of heads with club team-mate Matt Miazga which left Giroud requiring stitches to close a six-centimetre wound. Medics spent five minutes attending to the 31-year-old before he was replaced by Ousmane Dembele as a precaution. But, as France prepared for their flight to Russia, Deschamps was quick to play down concerns of a serious injury: "Olivier Giroud has a beautiful cut, but he will be able to face Australia," he said. The French manager also confirmed that Paul Pogba is "very likely" to be in the starting XI despite his insipid performances of late. The Manchester United midfielder was jeered throughout the 3-1 friendly win over Italy last week and failed to inspire his side in the lacklustre 1-1 draw against USA.

Thibaut Courtois may have played his last match in a Chelsea shirt, but he isn't showing his hand just yet.

The 25-year-old is gearing up for the World Cup with with front-running Belgium side expected to do damage in Russia, but has been linked with a move away from Chelsea after missing out on a Champions League spot for the second time in three years. Courtois is being linked with a move to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the midst of preparing for the World Cup: "I think I proved at Chelsea the last two months that I don't care about speculation. I said what had to be said on that terms. I'm now focused on the World Cup. I think my performances proved that."

Michy Batshuayi has been given every chance to prove his fitness after Roberto Martinez included the Chelsea striker in his 28-man squad for Russia.

The 24-year-old was enjoying a highly productive loan spell at Borussia Dortmund [7-goals + one assist] from nine Bundesliga starts before suffering a serious injury last month. The club confirmed that Batshuayi had rolled his left ankle following a challenge from Schalke 04 midfielder Benjamin Stambouli causing ligament damage. Although no official timeline was proposed, Roberto Martinez always maintained it was "possible" that he could be fit for the Red Devils World Cup campaign. Belgium face Portugal in a pre-tournament friendly on June 02 before the squad will be cut to 23 two days later. Fellow Premier League players Vincent Kompany and Kevin de Bruyne [Man City], Eden Hazard [Chelsea], Marouane Fellaini and Romelu Lukaku [Man United] and Christian Benteke [Crystal Palace] also make the squad but Divock Origi [Liverpool] and Kevin Mirallas [Everton] miss out.

Marcos Alonso will not feature at the World Cup finals after he was axed from Spain’s World Cup squad.

The Chelsea defender had been widely tipped to be included in the group travelling to Russia after another solid season at Stamford Bridge, but Alonso was one of four Chelsea players to be snubbed by Julen Lopetegui. The Spain coach instead elected to take Arsenal full-back Monreal: "Nacho has come with us many times," he said during Mondays press conference. "We know him well and we are convinced he will help us." There was no place for Alvaro Morata either who had been a regular up until March, but injury and a lack of form ultimately cost the former Real Madrid striker despite his five-goals during the qualification campaign: "It's not easy and the doubt always exists. In the case of Morata, he's had a complex season but he could have come. He hasn't because another player has convinced us more." Cesc Fabregas and Pedro Rodriguez complete the Chelsea contingent missing out this summer.

Just days after shrouding his Chelsea future in doubt, Eden Hazard fired home the penalty to ensure Chelsea's season did not end trophyless with the 2018 FA Cup adding to their accolades.

José Mourinho tried to nullify the threat of Hazard with a tactic which had previously been successful: using Ander Herrera in a man marking role. However the Belgian Number 10 outsmarted his former boss by dragging Herrera further back the pitch, removing the Spaniard from the three man midfield which unlocks Paul Pogba. Perhaps that was the reason behind United's lack of drive in the first half. They failed to reply to Chelsea's penalty earnt and scored by the same player until after the interval. Sanchez thought he had levelled proceedings but his goal was correctly adjudged to have been offside thanks to VAR, whilst Courtois was equal to a Marcus Rashford effort. Pogba had United's best opportunity late on, but his free header failed to hit the target.

Chelsea missed out on a place in next season's Champions League after a poor display in a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle.

Chelsea entered the match in need of a win and a Liverpool defeat against Brighton to secure a top-four finish. However, Antonio Conte's side did not look like a team fighting for European football. Last year's champions fell behind when Dwight Gayle headed home from close-range after 23 minutes, before Ayoze Perez scored in the 59th and 63rd minute to make it 3-0. Chelsea did have a pair of chances before the match slipped away, but Ross Barkley's clear opportunity was well blocked and Olivier Giroud's flick was denied by Martin Dubravka. The Blues, who finish the season in fifth place, now turn their attention to the FA Cup final against Manchester United on Saturday.

Thibaut Courtois headlined the list of players left out on a frustrating night at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town.

Antonio Conte made six changes to the side which beat Liverpool last week, as Willy Caballero replaced Courtois, who missed out with a back injury. Andreas Christensen and Davide Zappacosta replaced Gary Cahill and Victor Moses in defense, while Pedro and Willian came in for Hazard and Giroud. Caballero has been a solid number two this season, but the absence of Courtois was felt when Chelsea conceded on 50 minutes. Caballero raced off his line but was beaten to a ball over the top by Laurent Depoitre, who stayed on his feet after contact and poked the ball into the back of the net. Should Courtois miss the season finale on Sunday, then Caballero will likely make another start.

Chelsea's hopes of a Top Four finish were dealt a serious blow after drawing 1-1 with Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.

In what could prove to be Antonio Conte's final match in charge at Stamford Bridge, his side dominated possession but were guilty of quality missed chances. Antonio Rudiger fired over from point-blank in the 13th minute, while Morata rounded Lossl but couldn't finish from a tight angle. Huddersfield took the lead through Laurent Depoitre in the 50th minute, but Chelsea equalized in the 62nd when a Town clearance smashed Alonso in the face and fly into the net. Despite a potent press late on, Jonas Lossl was on hand to deny Andreas Christensen's close-range header off the post late in the match. The result means Chelsea must now win away at Newcastle on Sunday and hope for Liverpool to lose at Brighton in order to qualify for the Champions League.
