With the Jets up 1-0 late in the second and on the penalty kill, Hellebuyck somehow got across to absolutely rob Ryan O'Reilly of his first goal as a St. Louis Blue with a remarkable save with his blocker. That was just one of several nice saves from Hellebuyck as he showed why he was the favorite for the Vezina Trophy to start the season. With the Jets amongst the top teams in the NHL, Hellebuyck will likely finish as a top-three fantasy goaltender.
Oct 4 - 11:23 PM

The Winnipeg Jets will have Connor Hellebuyck in goal tonight when they take on the St. Louis Blues.

The 'Trophy Tracker' series on NHL.com currently has Hellebuyck as the favourite to win the Vezina Trophy this season after finishing as a finalist last season. With an unproven backup behind him (Laurent Brossoit), the 25-year-old goaltender could be one of the only goalies in the NHL to get close to 70 games played this season. It's shaping into another top-five fantasy finish at the goaltending position for Hellebuyck.
Oct 4 - 6:24 PM

Following the preseason, the panel at NHL.com has predicted that Connor Hellebuyck will build on last season’s success and win the Vezina Trophy in 2018-19.

In a ‘Trophy Tracker’ series on NHL.com, Hellebuyck edged out Andrei Vasilevskiy by two points to be the favorite to win the Vezina trophy this upcoming season. One year removed from a regular season in which he collected 44 wins, six shutouts, and posted a 2.36 GAA and .924 save percentage, the 25-year old netminder will look to prove that last year’s performance was no fluke. Jets’ GM Kevin Cheveldayoff certainly believes in his goaltender stating, "[Hellebuyck] has always been projected in our mind as a number one goaltender and the goaltender of the future for us". In July, the Jets signed Hellebuyck to a six-year, $37 million contract and did not sign any proven backup goaltenders during the offseason, indicating that he should receive plenty of starts this regular season. Given his projected workload and the team in front of him, Hellebuyck is in a good position to repeat last year’s success.

Oct 2 - 12:20 AM

The Winnipeg Jets have signed Connor Hellebuyck to a six-year, $37 million contract.

Hellebuyck had filed for salary arbitration, but the hearing is no longer necessary. He finished second in Vezina Trophy voting after posting a 44-11-9 record, 2.36 GAA, and .924 save percentage in 67 games last season. While there's certainly some risk here given that Hellebuyck didn't do nearly as well in 2016-17, this also could prove to be a great contract for Winnipeg if he can maintain his level of play from last season.
