Ward has a limited no-trade clause in his contract, which means he can block a trade to six teams. The final diagnosis on Joel Ward's shoulder is not as bad as initially feared, and the veteran forward has been given a day-to-day timeline.

Ward was initially believed to be dealing with a separated shoulder but that is not the case. He admits he got "lucky" and is hopeful to be back "soon". However with just 11 points in 46 games this season, the veteran forward has no fantasy upside.
Feb 10 - 2:35 PM

Joel Ward is out indefinitely due to an unspecified injury.

Ward sustained the injury midway through Thursday's game when he was smashed into the board by Nate Schmidt. It looked like Ward was favoring his right shoulder before he left the ice. "It’s as dangerous a play as there can be in hockey. We all know the dangers of concussions, but head first into the boards is, I would put that at the top of the list," Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said. "Again, I’m just speechless by it, I don’t know what the call is. Is it two-minute boarding? It’s something, though. You’ve got a veteran guy that’s out with a significant injury, that’s the disappointing part."
Feb 9 - 6:05 PM

Joel Ward scored a goal with a minus-1 rating in Tuesday's 3-1 setback at Colorado.

The Sharks aren't going to win many games when the checking line forward is providing all of the offense. He has points in back-to-back games for the third time this season, but just four goals and 11 points across 45 outings this season. His fantasy appeal remains limited to the deepest pools at this point.
