Thomas Greiss allowed three goals on 24 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.
Greiss nearly made it out of the first period unscathed after facing 11 shots, but Kesler scored a powerplay goal with six seconds left to give Anaheim the lead. He then allowed one goal in each following period, but received almost no goal support as the Islanders offense faced a solid John Gibson in the opposing crease. The 32-year old goaltender is now 1-2 with a 2.70 GAA and .914 save percentage so far this season. Oct 18 - 1:40 AM

Date:

Thomas Greiss will get the call on Wednesday night against Anaheim.

Greiss surrendered four goals on 23 shots to Nashville in a 4-3 loss on Oct. 6 in his last appearance. He has posted a 1-1-0 record this season with a 2.52 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.
Oct 17 - 3:15 PM

Thomas Greiss is expected to be between the pipes for Saturday's game against Nashville.

Greiss was terrific in Thursday's 2-1 OT win over Carolina, as he turned aside 45 of the 46 shots that were directed his way. He'll need to be terrific again if the Islanders want to beat the Predators tonight.
Oct 6 - 4:08 PM

Thomas Greiss stopped 45 of 46 shots during Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

The truth is, the Islanders had no business winning this game. Greiss was simply incredible, single handedly getting his team the two points with several remarkable and highlight reel saves. The German netminder got the start over Robin Lehner and will almost certainly do the same when the Islanders take on the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. Greiss' talent has never been questioned, he just needs to find the consistency that separates the great goaltenders from the good ones.
Oct 4 - 10:06 PM

Thomas Greiss will play between the pipes on Thursday.

Greiss is getting the start in the Islanders' opener over Robin Lehner. You could look at it as an indication that Greiss is New York's No. 1 goalie, but the two are probably going to split the team's ice time fairly evenly until one of them differentiates himself.
Oct 4 - 12:56 PM

Thomas Greiss and Robin Lehner are battling for the top job in net for the Islanders.

Greiss went into training camp as the number one but neither netminder has impressed new coach Barry Trotz who wants a number one goalie. "Generally, in the past, I’ve had a No. 1," said Trotz who won the Stanley Cup last season behind the bench in Washington. "I haven’t had many 40-40 guys. I don’t know too many teams that have been successful 40-40. Ideally, you want to get to a No. 1 who’s in there and gives your team that same feel every night." Trotz will go with the hot hand if there is such a thing this season with the Islanders.
Sep 30 - 8:28 AM

Thomas Greiss is looking at the 2018-19 season as a fresh start.

"With new management and everything, it's going to be a fresh start for everybody," Greiss said. "A new coach is going to be interesting. I've talked to him on the phone. I'm sure he's going to change a bunch of things." John Tavares' departure is a big hole up for the Islanders, but Greiss feels the team still has plenty of talent. He is also slated to share crease with Robin Lehner, who was cut loose by Buffalo this off-season, after Jaroslav Halak left as a free agent. "[Lehner] is new to me, but we'll meet for the first time when we get to New York," Greiss said. "It's a long year. ... We'll both play hard, and whoever plays, plays."
Jul 27 - 7:55 PM

Thomas Greiss stopped 36 of 39 shots in a 4-3 overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Greiss will finish the season with back-to-back wins, the first time he has done that since he had five-straight in November. The German netminder had another inconsistent season playing behind an invisible defensive unit. He'll finish the season with a 13-8-2 record, a 3.82 goals-against-average and a .892 save percentage. The Islanders have him locked up for another two years at a $3.33 million cap hit.
Apr 7 - 10:34 PM

Thomas Greiss will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Both teams are eliminated from playoff contention, but the result of tonight's clash will affect the draft lottery. Greiss has a 12-8-2 record with a 3.86 goals-against-average and a .890 save percentage this season.
Apr 7 - 11:32 AM

Thomas Greiss allowed four goals on 31 shots in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Islanders were up 4-1 heading into the third period, but they allowed the Flyers to score three unanswered goals (two on the power play) to tie the game. Fortunately for the Islanders, Mathew Barzal scored the game-winner for New York. Greiss now has a 12-8-2 record with a 3.86 goals-against-average and a .891 save percentage this season. This was his first win since Feb. 16 (he missed significant time due to injury).
Apr 3 - 10:08 PM

Thomas Greiss will be in goal for the Islanders on Tuesday versus Philadelphia.

Greiss will get a second straight start despite allowing four goals on 35 shots in Saturday's 4-3 loss to New Jersey. He has posted a mark of 11-8-2 this season with a 3.85 goals-against average and .891 save percentage.
Apr 3 - 11:46 AM

Thomas Greiss made 31 saves on 35 shots in a 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.

The German has just three wins in his last 13 appearances for the Islanders. His record falls to 11-8-2 with a 3.85 GAA and an .891 save percentage.
Mar 31 - 10:49 PM

Thomas Greiss will start tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils.

It'll be his first return to action since suffering a lower-body injury in mid-February. The German netminder has a 11-7-2 record with a 3.84 goals-against-average and .891 save percentage this season.
Mar 31 - 5:19 PM

Thomas Greiss may be in the crease Saturday against New Jersey

Christopher Gibson started and lost Friday night and Jaroslav Halak has been feeling under the weather, so Greiss could get back in goal of the Islanders. Griess last played six weeks ago as he has been on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. We don't recommend starting Greiss after such a long layoff.
Mar 31 - 10:54 AM

Thomas Greiss (lower body) has been taken off the IR list.

Greiss last played on Feb. 16. He won't be the starter Friday night, but perhaps he'll get the nod on Saturday.
