Mike Smith will be between the pipes Thursday night against Montreal.

Smith has lost his last two starts, but he played very well in Sunday's defeat versus San Jose. He has a 5-6-1 record this season with a 3.51 goals-against average and .877 save percentage.

Mike Smith was outstanding in a 3-1 loss to San Jose Sunday.

After struggling for most of the first month of the season, Smith gave the Flames every opportunity to win on Sunday as he tried to steal the game from the Sharks. "He played great," defenseman Travis Hamonic said. "I don’t know how many 10-bell (saves) he had, probably five or six. Probably three or four in the second period and a couple in the third … he really held down the fort for us. I’m not just saying that. You can see the saves he was making. You wish you could have put a couple more on the board because of how well he was playing." Smith is 5-6-1 with a 3.51 GAA and a .877 save percentage but with more efforts like Sunday, he will become fantasy-relevant again.

Nov 12 - 6:34 AM

Mike Smith stopped 26 of 28 shots in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Smith has been ice cold lately, going 2-4-1 over his last seven outings. Being outplayed by his backup, David Rittich, in the process. The 36-year-old Smith will have a chance at beating his two-game losing streak on Thursday night when the Flames host the Canadiens. Calgary's netminder will come into that game with a 5-6-1 record, a 3.51 goals-against-average and a .877 save percentage.
Nov 11 - 11:51 PM

Mike Smith will get the start in goal for Calgary Sunday.

Smith has struggled all season with a 5-5-1 mark to go with a 3.66 GAA and a .872 save percentage but will play the back end of back-to-back games in California after David Rittich shut out the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 Saturday night. Rittich has been much the better goaltender this season with a 5-1-0 mark and a 1.91 GAA. Smith will try to turn things around against San Jose but another poor performance or two will allow the Flames to give Rittich the chance to run with the top job. We cannot recommend Smith at this time.

Nov 11 - 6:24 AM

Mike Smith remains confident that he'll turn his season around.

Smith has a 5-5-1 record, 3.66 GAA, and .872 save percentage in 11 contests this season. He's struggled throughout the campaign and has surrendered 22 goals over his last six games. Despite that, he remains optimistic. "I feel like it’s coming," Smith said. "I know I haven’t played my best yet. There’s more to give. It’s about finding it and getting the confidence. And it starts in practice, I’m a big believer in that. The good thing is, we’re up there in the standings right now. It hasn’t hurt us as far as wins and losses. I think once I get my game going, which I know I will, then we’ll just keep going." His next chance might come on Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings.
Nov 10 - 5:53 AM

Mike Smith allowed three goals on 24 shots to the Ducks and the Flames lost 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Smith’s early season struggles continued in Anaheim on Wednesday as he seemed to be battling the puck for most of the night and gave up some goals at bad times. The 36-year old allowed two first period goals and the Ducks had a 2-0 lead just under 12 minutes into the game. His team managed to rally back, but Smith was beat by Getzlaf’s shot a mere 27 seconds after the Flames tied the game in the third period. In 2018-19, Smith now owns a 5-5-1 record with a 3.66 GAA, .872 save percentage and a shutout.
Nov 8 - 2:26 AM

Mike Smith will be between the pipes Wednesday against Anaheim.

Smith has posted victories in his past two outings even though he allowed five goals to Colorado on Thursday in his last appearance. He has a 5-4-1 record this season with a 3.71 goals-against average and .871 save percentage.
Nov 6 - 1:08 PM

Mike Smith earned his fifth win of the season with a 21 save performance in a 6-5 win over Colorado Thursday night.

Smith has won back-to-back starts for the second time this season, which could bring his confidence back up after going 0-2-1 and allowing 13 goals before then. Smith's record improves to 5-4-1 with a 3.71 GAA and an .871 save percentage.
Nov 2 - 12:57 AM

Mike Smith will be in goal for Thursday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Smith's last outing resulted in a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, he stopped 24 of 25 shots in that one. He has a modest 4-4-1 record with a 3.55 goals-against-average and a .878 save percentage. However, it should be noted that the veteran netminder has faired much better over his last two outings, posting a 1-0-1 record with a 1.94 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage.
Nov 1 - 6:26 PM

Mike Smith turned aside 24 of 25 shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Smith managed to keep the Leafs off the board for the majority of the game, but they eventual solved him with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. It's hard to fault Smith on the goal, especially because it came just as the first of two Calgary penalties expired. The victory allowed the 36-year-old to put his personal three-game losing streak to bed (0-2-1). Smith owns a 4-4-1 record with a 3.55 goals-against average and a .878 save percentage this season. Calgary needs their starting netminder to be way more consistent if they're going to make it to the playoffs.
Oct 29 - 10:15 PM

Look for Mike Smith to start on Monday.

He'll be given the tough task of trying to stop the offensively-gifted Toronto Maple Leafs. That being said, the job will be somewhat easier tonight because Auston Matthews is sidelined. Smith has a 3.91 GAA and .869 save percentage in eight contests this season.
Oct 29 - 1:05 PM

Mike Smith saved 24 of 27 shots in regulation in a 4-3 shootout loss to Washington.

Smith surrendered another two goals in four shootout rounds. This is the third straight start where he's allowed at least three goals.
Oct 27 - 6:57 PM

Mike Smith will start for Calgary on Saturday.

Smith has a chance to bounce back after surrendering six goals on 21 shots Thursday night. He's 3-4-0 with a 4.10 GAA and .866 save percentage in seven contests.
Oct 27 - 3:02 PM

Mike Smith allowed six goals on 21 shots in a 9-1 defeat versus Pittsburgh Thursday night.

For the second time this season, Smith has been pulled after another woeful performance. The goaltender has only had two starts where he's allowed two goals or less. That's not a good look if you either have him on your fantasy team, or if you're thinking of adding a backstopper. Smith's record falls to 3-4-0 with a 4.10 GAA and an .866 save percentage.
