Larry Nance (sprained right MCL) is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, according to the Cavs' official press release.
Initial reports suggested that Nance was hoping to miss roughly two weeks, but that seems optimistic. The good news is that an MRI confirmed he suffered a relatively mild MCL sprain -- for comparison, the Bulls ruled out both Kris Dunn and Bobby Portis for 4-6 weeks after they sprained their MCLs. With nothing on the line for a lottery-bound franchise, though, we expect Nance back toward the later end of his timetable. The Cavs will likely use more small-ball lineups in his absence, with Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye and Ante Zizic manning the center spot. Jan 10 - 5:21 PM

Date:

Larry Nance Jr. (sprained right MCL) is expected to miss about two weeks.

An MRI confirmed the diagnosis and although it doesn't sound too serious, Cleveland will be extra cautious as they drift toward the draft lottery. His absence means we're likely to see plenty of Channing Frye alongside Tristan Thompson, with Ante Zizic earning minutes and Cedi Osman playing more PF than usual. Unfortunately, there are no obvious winners here for fantasy.
Jan 10 - 3:44 PM

Larry Nance (knee) was laboring as he was walking around the arena on Wednesday.

In case you missed it, he is not playing tonight, but this information makes it seem like he could be out additional time. The Cavs are running out of bodies and Tristan Thompson (foot) is questionable, so coach Larry Drew may have to turn to Channing Frye and Ante Zizic way more than he wants to.
Jan 9 - 7:28 PM

Larry Nance (knee) is listed as out for Wednesday against the Pelicans.

The good news is that his knee injury isn't serious, but the bad news is that the Cavs are likely looking at the lottery and may take their time. Hopefully Nance won't miss much time, and maybe the Cavs will give us a better idea how much time he'll miss with an official update. Just about all of his owners should hold him until we get a specific timeline. Channing Frye will be the backup center while Tristan Thompson should play around 35 minutes in the first unit. The Cavs could also start Jalen Jones or Jordan Clarkson today.

Jan 9 - 5:38 PM

Larry Nance's right knee injury isn't believed to be "serious" and he will travel with the Cavaliers for Wednesday's game vs. the Pelicans.

Joe Vardon of The Athletic notes that this is subject to change and there will be further evaluation, and it's worth noting that the Cavs are going to be super cautious as the tank picks up speed. For now, Nance's owners should sit tight and wait for an additional update. There are no fantasy pickups in Cleveland because of this news.
Jan 8 - 10:10 PM

Larry Nance will not return to Tuesday's game vs. the Pacers with a right knee injury.

He limped to the locker room followed by the team trainer and was ruled out roughly 15 minutes later. There are no specifics at this moment, so his owners should be on the lookout for another update. The Cavs are an absolute dumpster fire right now and there is nobody worth taking a flier on with this news. If anything, this gives Tristan Thompson's floor a bump.
Jan 8 - 7:44 PM

Larry Nance made a start at power forward against the Jazz on Friday with 10 points, nine rebounds, one assist and two steals in 31 minutes.

He saw some of the garbage minutes at center, but it was a little interesting he wasn't staggered too much from Tristan Thompson with Channing Frye getting in the mix. Nance has usually been able to produce in fantasy just because he does so many things, and perhaps he gets another start against the Pelicans on Saturday. Regardless, he should be owned in all standard leagues.
Jan 4 - 9:53 PM

Larry Nance will start at power forward against the Jazz on Friday.

He's played 260 minutes next to Tristan Thompson, so it's not a wild idea for coach Larry Drew. Plus, it is a matchup where the Cavs will want to go big against Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert. Either way, Nance should be held in standard leagues. Alec Burks will move to the bench to help the guard depth without Matt Dellavedova.
Jan 4 - 7:39 PM

Larry Nance moved back to the bench on Wednesday with six points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block in 22 minutes against the Heat.

He played directly behind Tristan Thompson, who made his return to the lineup after missing a few weeks. Nance has played 260 minutes next to Thompson, so it's possible those two can both get to 30 minutes. As this well-rounded stat line shows and along with his recent output, he still needs to be owned in standard leagues even if he plays around 24 minutes.
Jan 2 - 9:27 PM

Larry Nance had one of the lines of the night during a 111-108 loss to the Hawks on Saturday, making 7-of-8 from the field for 18 points with 15 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and one block in 36 minutes.

He made all four free throws and didn't turn the ball over for a monster eight-cat line. The Cavs need play-making guys in the worst way right now, and Nance continues to ask for the ball from his teammates. He also got the start today, but it doesn't really matter where he gets his minutes. He should be owned in all leagues.

Larry Nance came off the bench on Friday vs. the Heat with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in 29 minutes.

Hassan Whiteside would have been a tough matchup for the foul-prone Nance, so maybe that's why he returned to a bench role. The good news is that he still put up a sexy fantasy line and embarrassed Kelly Olynyk in the process (link below). He's been a fantasy stud lately, but he does have some obstacles coming his way with Tristan Thompson (foot) close and Kevin Love targeting a January return.

Larry Nance will move to the bench against the Heat on Friday.

The Cavs are really are thin and they absolutely can't have Nance in foul trouble, so that likely explains this move. He should still get the vast majority of minutes with around 30 in a high-volume role with the ball in his hands. He should be owned in standard leagues.

Larry Nance made 9-of-14 shots to score 20 points on Sunday, grabbing six rebounds with three steals, one assist and two turnovers in 33 minutes.

Cavs coach Larry Drew had frustrated fantasy owners by refusing to unleash Nance, but it's finally happened lately with 10.8 points (54.2% FGs, 81.8% FTs), 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.3 blocks in his past six games. That's pure fantasy gold and all it took was the absence of Tristan Thompson, Kevin Love and John Henson due to injury. This could prove to be a high-water mark for Nance's season, but he should still be a top-50 value even when Cleveland's frontcourt returns to health.
Sun, Dec 23, 2018 08:59:00 PM

Larry Nance was effective against the Raptors during a 126-110 loss on Friday, scoring 16 points with 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in 30 minutes.

He was leading the team in passes over the last four and he had over 10 potential assists per game in those, but the dimes weren't there this time. Coach Larry Drew seems to finally be sold that he has to start Nance because his team starts slow without him, but either way Nance is locked in as a must-start fantasy option. In other news, he lost part of his tooth, but it sounds like he'll be OK after a trip to the dentist.
Fri, Dec 21, 2018 09:43:00 PM

Larry Nance finished Wednesday's road loss with 10 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, one block and zero turnovers in 34 minutes of action.

Tristan Thompson's absence with a sprained foot has opened the door at center, and Nance has emphatically claimed the job after some ill-fated starts for Channing Frye and Ante Zizic. He's piling up supporting stats and he's been elite in the past few weeks with averages of 11.1 points (55.4% FGs, 73.3% FTs), 0.8 triples, 9.6 boards, 5.1 assists, 1.9 steals, 0.9 blocks and 1.3 turnovers. If he keeps this up, he'll be a front-runner for fantasy pickup of the year.
