Dustin Fowler (knee) is visiting his doctor in Chicago on Friday and hopes to be cleared for game action "soon thereafter," according to Athletics manager Bob Melvin.
Fowler ruptured his right patella tendon in his major league debut last June when he was with the Yankees, but his rehab has progressed without any bumps in the road to this point. The A's probably won't put too much on his plate this spring, but all signs point to him being ready for Opening Day and it's possible he'll win the center field job. Feb 23 - 12:58 PM

Date:'s Jane Lee writes that Dustin Fowler (knee) "is the favorite to land the center field job" for the Athletics.

Fowler suffered a gruesome right patella tendon rupture in his major league debut last June when he was with the Yankees, but he's right on schedule with his recovery. The A's plan to ease him into things at the beginning of spring training, but all signs point to him being ready to roll come Opening Day. It's good to hear, but Oakland could ultimately decide to get by with Boog Powell and/or Jake Smolinski in center field for a while and let Fowler knock some rust off in the minors. The situation is worth watching closely in spring training, as Fowler is an interesting power/speed guy who hit .293/.329/.542 with 13 homers and 13 steals in 70 Triple-A games before being called up last season.

Athletics activated OF Dustin Fowler from the 60-day disabled list.

Acquired from the Yankees in the Sonny Gray trade, Fowler blew out his right knee in June. The A's are hopeful that he'll be 100 percent for spring training.

Athletics' manager Bob Melvin said Friday that the club is pleased with the recovery that Dustin Fowler (knee) has made so far.

Fowler, who came to the Athletics in the deal that send Sonny Gray to the Yankees, ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee while crashing into a wall in June. The club hopes that he will be ready to compete for the starting job in center field come spring training.

Athletics acquired OF Dustin Fowler, INF/OF Jorge Mateo, and RHP James Kaprielian from the Yankees for RHP Sonny Gray and $1.5 million in international spending money.

Fowler ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee in June when he crashed full-speed into the outfield wall in the first inning of his MLB debut and he will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, but the talented 22-year-old should be ready to rock next spring. He was batting .293/.329/.542 with 13 home runs and 13 stolen bases through 70 games this season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees placed OF Dustin Fowler on the 60-day disabled list with a ruptured right patella tendon.

Fowler crashed into the wall at full speed while chasing down a foul ball in the first inning of his MLB debut Thursday against the White Sox. The injury was severe enough to require emergency surgery. It would be a major surprise if Fowler played again this season.

Dustin Fowler is undergoing surgery for an open rupture of the right patella tendon suffered in Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Brutal blow for the Yankees. Fowler was carted off the field after running full speed into the right field wall in foul territory while chasing a fly ball in the first inning of Wednesday's game. He's expected to need at least six months of rehab, so his season is obviously over. Fowler was making his major league debut in the game.

Dustin Fowler was carted off with a leg injury Thursday against the White Sox.

Unreal. It's been a miserable week for the Yankees injury-wise—they've already lost Aaron Hicks, Starlin Castro and Matt Holliday to the disabled list—and now you can add Fowler's name to the list. The 22-year-old was trying to make a catch in foul ground when he injured himself running into the right field wall. He exited before he even got his first major league at-bat. Rob Refsnyder replaced Fowler in right field.

Yankees purchased the contract of OF Dustin Fowler from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre.

He'll start in right field and bat sixth in his major league debut Thursday against the White Sox. Aaron Judge will serve as the DH. Fowler was crushing the ball in Scranton (.293, 13 HR, 45 RBI) but there may not be many at-bats for him in New York even with all their injuries. The 22-year-old is No. 98 in's Top 100 prospects.

Josh Norris of Baseball America reports the Yankees are promoting prospect Dustin Fowler from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

And he figures to see a good amount of playing time right out of the gate with recent callup Tyler Austin battling a hamstring injury. The 22-year-old Fowler was sporting an .857 OPS with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and 48 runs scored through 69 games this season at the Triple-A level. He carries some deep-league fantasy appeal, though it might not be a very long stay.

Yankees prospect Dustin Fowler went 5-for-6 with a homer on Sunday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The homer was Fowler's fourth of the year, and he also picked up a pair of doubles. Fowler is one of several quality outfield prospects in the system, and while he doesn't match Clint Frazier's ceiling, he might have a higher floor. It may take a trade to fully realize his value, but Fowler has the talent to be an everyday outfielder for someone.
