Date:

Dustin Fowler is not in the Athletics' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon against the Astros.

Fowler was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday morning and should get regular playing time going forward, but Mark Canha will make the start in center field and hit ninth Wednesday versus Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole. Fowler was batting .310 with an .817 OPS, three home runs, and eight stolen bases through 30 games this season at the Triple-A level.
May 9 - 12:36 PM

Athletics recalled OF Dustin Fowler from Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler nearly made the A's roster out of camp, and has now earned his shot after batting .310 with an .817 OPS, three home runs, and eight stolen bases through 30 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 23-year-old should play regularly in the Oakland outfield and carries a good amount of mixed-league fantasy upside.
May 9 - 11:40 AM

Athletics OF prospect Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 with a stolen base on Monday for Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler now has five steals on the season. The -left-handed hitting outfielder has a .275 batting average, but his on-base percentage of .311 and slugging percentage of .304 leave a lot to be desired. There's obvious talent in the former New York Yankees prospect, but the approach needs to get better -- and there has to be a semblance of power -- before he's getting called up to Oakland.
Apr 24 - 2:23 PM

Athletics OF Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 and stole a base on Thursday for Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler, 23, also drove in two runs. Acquired in the deal that sent Sonny Gray to the Yankees, the left-handed hitting outfielder was reportedly given a chance to win the starting job in center, but his struggles in the Cactus League eliminated that opportunity. Expect him to earn that job soon, however, as Fowler can hit for average and steal bases while playing quality defense. He's definitely worth monitoring in redraft leagues.
Apr 6 - 1:21 PM

Athletics optioned OF Dustin Fowler to Triple-A Nashville.

So it'll be Boog Powell in center field for the A's. Fowler had a good shot at winning the job, but he batted just .222/.245/.267 over 50 plate appearances in the Cactus League. The 23-year-old top prospect should force his way back up at some point.
Mar 28 - 1:38 PM

Dustin Fowler went 2-for-3 with a run scored in a loss to the Giants in Cactus League action Sunday.

After a slow start to spring, Fowler now has four hits in his last nine at-bats. He's also got three steals this spring, testing out his surgically repaired knee. The more interesting fantasy player of the two, Fowler and Boog Powell are in competition to be the Athletics' starting center fielder on Opening Day.
Mar 25 - 8:13 PM

Dustin Fowler went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Friday’s victory over the Angels.

The A’s starting center field battle is going down to the wire between Fowler and Boog Powell. Coming off a brutal knee injury, Fowler is hitting just .195 (8-for-41) with 12 strikeouts and two walks over 16 games. Meanwhile, Powell is batting .256/.348/.333 over 17 games. It might not be the worst thing for Fowler to get some more seasoning in the minors.
Mar 23 - 11:20 PM

Athletics prospect outfielder Dustin Fowler knocked in two runs with a ground rule double in Friday’s 7-3 win over the Indians in Cactus League action on Friday.

Coming off a brutal knee injury, Fowler has struggled to get it going this spring, batting just .185 (5-for-27) over 11 games. His main competition for the starting center fielder gig is Boog Powell, who is hitting .258 (8-for-31) with a .698 OPS. Fowler was the favorite coming into the spring and makes for the more appealing fantasy flier.
Mar 16 - 10:30 PM

Dustin Fowler reached base in all three of his plate appearances Friday against the Brewers.

Fowler singled, doubled, and drew a walk while stealing a base and scoring a run. Coming back from a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee, the 23-year-old has also received some at-bats in minor league and intrasquad games in an effort to get his timing back at the plate. After striking out twice in four straight Cactus League games, he has gone without a strikeout in back-to-back games. He still has a legitimate shot to claim the starting center field job.
Mar 9 - 8:59 PM

Dustin Fowler (knee) is visiting his doctor in Chicago on Friday and hopes to be cleared for game action "soon thereafter," according to Athletics manager Bob Melvin.

Fowler ruptured his right patella tendon in his major league debut last June when he was with the Yankees, but his rehab has progressed without any bumps in the road to this point. The A's probably won't put too much on his plate this spring, but all signs point to him being ready for Opening Day and it's possible he'll win the center field job.
Feb 23 - 12:58 PM

MLB.com's Jane Lee writes that Dustin Fowler (knee) "is the favorite to land the center field job" for the Athletics.

Fowler suffered a gruesome right patella tendon rupture in his major league debut last June when he was with the Yankees, but he's right on schedule with his recovery. The A's plan to ease him into things at the beginning of spring training, but all signs point to him being ready to roll come Opening Day. It's good to hear, but Oakland could ultimately decide to get by with Boog Powell and/or Jake Smolinski in center field for a while and let Fowler knock some rust off in the minors. The situation is worth watching closely in spring training, as Fowler is an interesting power/speed guy who hit .293/.329/.542 with 13 homers and 13 steals in 70 Triple-A games before being called up last season.

Feb 9 - 4:26 PM

Athletics activated OF Dustin Fowler from the 60-day disabled list.

Acquired from the Yankees in the Sonny Gray trade, Fowler blew out his right knee in June. The A's are hopeful that he'll be 100 percent for spring training.

Athletics' manager Bob Melvin said Friday that the club is pleased with the recovery that Dustin Fowler (knee) has made so far.

Fowler, who came to the Athletics in the deal that send Sonny Gray to the Yankees, ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee while crashing into a wall in June. The club hopes that he will be ready to compete for the starting job in center field come spring training.

Athletics acquired OF Dustin Fowler, INF/OF Jorge Mateo, and RHP James Kaprielian from the Yankees for RHP Sonny Gray and $1.5 million in international spending money.

Fowler ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee in June when he crashed full-speed into the outfield wall in the first inning of his MLB debut and he will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, but the talented 22-year-old should be ready to rock next spring. He was batting .293/.329/.542 with 13 home runs and 13 stolen bases through 70 games this season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
