Dustin Fowler is batting leadoff and starting in left field for the Athletics on Friday against the Mariners.
Fowler was recalled from Triple-A Nashville prior to the game. He possesses an intriguing blend of power and speed, but hasn't quite been able to put it all together at the big league level yet. He isn't expected to see enough playing time down the stretch to be fantasy relevant from a mixed league perspective. Aug 31 - 6:17 PM

Athletics recalled OF Dustin Fowler from Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler has batted just .231/.260/.328 at the major league level this season. He remains an intriguing fantasy option over the long haul but wouldn't appear to be in line for a lot of playing time down the stretch.
Aug 31 - 5:45 PM

Athletics optioned OF Dustin Fowler to Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler has shown some flashes of brilliance in his first taste of the big leagues with Oakland, but his slash of .231/.260/.328 leaves a lot to be desired. Don't be surprised if the 23-year-old is back up with the Athletics before the 2018 season finishes.
Aug 1 - 7:27 PM

Dustin Fowler struck out all five times he was up against the Astros on Monday.

Fowler hasn't been bad overall, but it's still hard to see why the A's like him in the leadoff spot so much when he's hitting .252 with a 38/7 K/BB ratio in 165 plate appearances. He's worth keeping in the lineup against righties, but he should be hitting lower until he steps it up.
Jul 9 - 11:42 PM

Dustin Fowler went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 7-2 win over the Indians on Saturday.

He singled and scored on a Mark Canha double in the sixth inning, then found a Dan Otero offering to his liking and deposited it over the center field wall in the eighth. Fowler started in center field and hit leadoff while boosting his season line to .252/.286/.405 with five homers and 17 RBI in 43 games.
Jun 30 - 8:05 PM

Dustin Fowler went 0-for-4 from the leadoff spot Thursday against the Tigers.

Fowler should be playing pretty regularly for the A's, but it'd probably be best for everyone if he were hitting a little lower in the order. While he's hitting for average of late, he has a 17/1 K/BB ratio this month, and he's scored a total of six runs in his 15 games leading off. Overall, he has a .286 OBP in 133 plate appearances.
Jun 28 - 4:16 PM

Dustin Fowler is not in the Athletics' lineup Sunday for the third game in a row.

The Angels are starting a third straight lefty and Fowler has been on the bench for all three games. Fowler did just fine against southpaws in the minors, but Mark Canha has punished lefties this season so the A's wanted him in center field for the second straight day.
Jun 17 - 1:51 PM

Dustin Fowler went 2-for-4 with a solo homer from the leadoff spot Friday against the Royals.

It seems unlikely that Fowler will post the kind of OBP to make him an asset in the leadoff spot, but as long as he hits there against righties, he's quite a bit more intriguing in deeper mixed leagues. The main problem now is that he figures to sit against most lefties unless he gets really hot.
Jun 9 - 12:47 AM

Dustin Fowler went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in a win over the Royals on Sunday.

All three hits were singles for Fowler, and the stolen base was the fourth for the outfielder since being promoted to Oakland. It's the second three-hit game for Fowler in three games, and he's making more hard contact as he gets comfortable at the highest level. He's hitting just .241/.308/.448 on the season, but considering he was hitting just .174 a week ago, you'll take it. There's considerable fantasy upside long-term in Fowler's skill set.
Jun 3 - 5:00 PM

Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI as his team thrashed the Royals on Friday.

He cracked a solo shot off starter Ian Kennedy in the third inning, then crushed a three-run bomb off reliever Jason Adam in the ninth. The rookie had not been hitting well prior to today and was able to boost his OPS from .554 to .732 in one game. He has a .216 batting average with three homers and 11 RBI in 57 plate appearances.
Jun 2 - 12:43 AM

Dustin Fowler blasted the first home run of his big league career on Friday, powering the Athletics to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

Fowler tagged Blue Jays' starter Marco Estrada for the solo shot, opening the game's scoring in the second inning. He also doubled, walked and swiped a base in the contest, finisihing the night 2-for-3. The 23-year-old outfielder is now slashing .227/.320/.500 with a homer, four RBI and two stolen bases in his first 25 plate appearances with the A's.
May 18 - 10:16 PM

Dustin Fowler is not in the Athletics' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon against the Astros.

Fowler was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday morning and should get regular playing time going forward, but Mark Canha will make the start in center field and hit ninth Wednesday versus Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole. Fowler was batting .310 with an .817 OPS, three home runs, and eight stolen bases through 30 games this season at the Triple-A level.
May 9 - 12:36 PM

Athletics recalled OF Dustin Fowler from Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler nearly made the A's roster out of camp, and has now earned his shot after batting .310 with an .817 OPS, three home runs, and eight stolen bases through 30 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 23-year-old should play regularly in the Oakland outfield and carries a good amount of mixed-league fantasy upside.
May 9 - 11:40 AM

Athletics OF prospect Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 with a stolen base on Monday for Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler now has five steals on the season. The -left-handed hitting outfielder has a .275 batting average, but his on-base percentage of .311 and slugging percentage of .304 leave a lot to be desired. There's obvious talent in the former New York Yankees prospect, but the approach needs to get better -- and there has to be a semblance of power -- before he's getting called up to Oakland.
Apr 24 - 2:23 PM

Athletics OF Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 and stole a base on Thursday for Triple-A Nashville.

Fowler, 23, also drove in two runs. Acquired in the deal that sent Sonny Gray to the Yankees, the left-handed hitting outfielder was reportedly given a chance to win the starting job in center, but his struggles in the Cactus League eliminated that opportunity. Expect him to earn that job soon, however, as Fowler can hit for average and steal bases while playing quality defense. He's definitely worth monitoring in redraft leagues.
