Pedro Severino hit a three-run home run in Saturday's win over the Marlins.

It was Severino's three-run jack in the fifth inning, part of a seven-run frame, that really opened the floodgates, as the Nats ended up posting 18 runs before the game was over. The homer was the only hit for Severino in five at-bats. The dinger was just the second for the light-hitting backstop this year, and he's hitting .171/.256/.254 in 62 games overall. With Matt Wieters close to returning, Severino will return to a reserve role soon.
Jul 7 - 10:26 PM

Pedro Severino belted his first home run of the season -- a solo shot -- in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox.

Severino took reliever Heath Hembree deep over the center field wall in the sixth inning. He also reached base on a walk. Severino has played regularly since Matt Wieters (hamstring) went down but hasn't done anything with the opportunity -- at least not offensively -- with a .499 OPS.

Nationals recalled C Pedro Severino from Triple-A Syracuse.

Matt Wieters (oblique) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding 25-man roster move. Severino will presumably share time behind the plate with Miguel Montero until Wieters is back to full health.

Nationals optioned C Pedro Severino to Triple-A Syracuse.

Severino entered camp with a decent shot at earning the backup catcher gig, but veteran Miguel Montero will serve in that role instead, at least to start the year. Severino didn't help his case, batting .111/.226/.337 in 27 at-bats. The 24-year-old should be back in the bigs at some point this year.

According to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, Pedro Severino will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

He'll be taking the place of Ryan Raburn, who is slated to go on bereavement leave. The 24-year-old hasn't hit much this year, batting a mere .211 with four homers and 26 RBI over 161 at-bats for Syracuse. He'll give the Nationals some catching depth behind Matt Wieters and Jose Lobaton.

Brian Goodwin, Matt Grace and Rafael Martin are also headed to Syracuse while Emmanuel Burriss has been reassigned to minor league camp. Pedro Severino will start behind the plate for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Dusty Baker is rolling with the same lineup he used against Clayton Kershaw in Game 1. It goes as follows: Trea Turner CF, Bryce Harper RF, Jayson Werth LF, Daniel Murphy 2B, Anthony Rendon 3B, Ryan Zimmerman 1B, Danny Espinosa SS, Severino C, Joe Ross SP.

Pedro Severino will start at catcher for the Nationals in Game 1 of the NLDS on Friday.

Wilson Ramos (knee) is done for the year and Jose Lobaton has some minor injuries of his own, so the 23-year-old Severino will catch Max Scherzer and try to manage some kind of offense against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. Severino put up an impressive .321/.441/.607 batting line in 34 plate appearances this season with Washington, but he's not really known for a great bat.
