The Angels have fired hitting coach Mickey Hatcher.
The Halos have been a major disappointment on offense, so we can't blame them for shaking things up. They've been shut out eight times already this season and entered Tuesday's game ranking 13th in the AL in runs scored. Triple-A Salt Lake hitting coach Jim Eppard will take over as the new hitting coach in Anaheim. May 15 - 11:01 PM

Albert Pujols hit his first home run of the season in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

At long last, the longest homer drought of Pujols' career is over. Dating back to last season, he had gone 33 games and 139 at-bats before connecting for a two-run job off Drew Hutchison in his 28th game as a member of the Angels. Pujols' longest homer drought prior to this one spanned 27 games. It would surprise absolutely no one if he now goes on a tear.
May 6 - 7:38 PM

Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' starting lineup on Saturday for the first time this season.

Pujols was told by manager Mike Scioscia to not even pick up a bat, so he didn't participate in pregame batting practice before the game and is doubtful to pinch hit. The well-compensated first baseman is engrossed in the worst slump of his career, hitting just .194 with no homers and five RBI through 114 plate appearances.
May 5 - 8:13 PM

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 on Friday and is now 1-for-16 during May.

He's in a 5-for-54 slump overall. It'd still be a terrible idea for Pujols owners to panic and sell low, but this sure has been one brutal start for the best hitter of the aughts.
May 5 - 12:25 AM

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 4-0 victory over the Twins.

Incidentally, The Angels have scored four or fewer runs in nine straight contests. As for Pujols, his OPS (.547) drops to its lowest point since two games into the season. Meanwhile, his K/BB ratio stands at 14/6; the last time he produced more strikeouts than walks was his rookie season in 2001.
May 2 - 4:23 AM

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Sunday's shutout loss to the Indians.

Since ending an 0-for-21 skid on Thursday, Pujols is just 2-for-12 with a pair of singles. Meanwhile, his season-beginning homer-less streak is now at 22 games, putting the Angels' $250 million man in danger of the first bomb-free month of his 12-year career (not counting March and October, of course). It's indeed "still early," but a .216/.266/.295 month for the game's best player is troubling after he set career lows in average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage last season.
Apr 29 - 3:50 PM

Albert Pujols broke his 0-for-21 slump Thursday afternoon, singling in a loss to the Rays.

Pujols was thrown out trying to extend that single into a double, however, so there's not much cause for celebration. The $250 million man is batting just .224/.280/.316 with no home runs and only four RBI in 19 games this season, and appears to be headed for a career-worst campaign. The high-priced Angels are in last place in the American League West with a 6-13 record.
Apr 26 - 4:15 PM

Albert Pujols went hitless for the fifth straight game Wednesday, though he did manage to draw a walk in Los Angeles' 3-2 loss to the Rays.

He finished his night 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Pujols' 0-for-19 streak is the longest of his illustrious career, while his eighth-inning walk marked the first time he's reached base in three games. Pujols also got off to a slow start last April, but never approached the ugly .222/.282/.319 triple slash he's currently sporting. The Angels' $250 million man has five opportunities left to avoid a homer-less April.
Apr 25 - 11:11 PM

The disappointing start to Albert Pujols' tenure with the Angels continued Tuesday in a loss to the Rays.

Pujols finished the night 0-for-4, and is now 0-for-15 in his last four games. He's hitting just .232 with no home runs and a meager four RBI on the season. Even during his struggles in 2011, he never went even three consecutive starts without a hit. Pujols is bound to turn things around at some point, but he's been a tremendous disappointment in the early going.
Apr 24 - 10:11 PM

Albert Pujols doubled three times in a losing cause Thursday against the A's.

The two hitters ahead of Pujols went 1-for-10, so there were no RBI to be had today. This would have been one of those games in which Pujols likely would have proved more useful in the cleanup spot.
Apr 20 - 1:47 AM

Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the A's.

Pujols has now hit in eight straight games, but has yet to launch his first home run as a member of the Angels. He's sporting a tepid .265/.308/.347 triple slash through his first 52 plate appearances, and has drawn only three walks. Pujols hit just .245/.305/.453 last March/April before going on to bat .311/.379/.560 after May 1.
Apr 19 - 1:13 AM

Albert Pujols blasted his seventh homer of the spring Wednesday against the Dodgers.

It was his only at-bat of the afternoon before Jorge Cantu took over at first base. If his spring training numbers are any indication, Pujols looks like he'll be locked in from the get-go, as he boasts a .383 batting mark and 20 RBI to go along with the seven bombs.
Apr 4 - 5:59 PM

Albert Pujols hit his sixth homer of the spring in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Cubs.

It was a two-run shot, vaulting Pujols' Cactus League RBI total to 17. He has been raking all spring and should have little trouble keeping it going next month when the regular season officially gets underway.
Mar 31 - 9:01 PM

Albert Pujols blasted a solo shot and a three-run bomb in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.

Pujols launched a three-run jack off Chris Sale in the third inning and then followed it up with solo blast off Anthony Carter in the fifth in his next at-bat. He also reached base on a hit by pitch in the first. The former Cardinal is now hitting an even .500 in his first 16 spring at-bats and has driven in eight runs.
Mar 14 - 7:35 PM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-2 with an RBI in Friday's loss to the Padres.

It's been so far, so great for Pujols in the Cactus League, as he's now batting .556 through his first nine at-bats. Although Matt Kemp and Miguel Cabrera are both worth consideration as the No. 1 overall fantasy player, it would be unwise to bet against the man who insists he's not "El Hombre."
