Antolin Alcaraz has been ruled out for Everton's last match of the season on Sunday against Tottenham with an undisclosed injury.
The news comes via Everton's official Twitter account and there is no detail on the center back's injury. Alcaraz has been a peripheral figure during his time with Everton, so his absence against Spurs at the weekend will not influence Roberto Martinez's team selection. It has been a disappointing reunion between Martinez and Alcaraz as Martinez once managed him at Wigan, but this bit of news may be the last the two share as the Toffees will likely want to be done with the injury-plagued defender. Just as Everton were beginning to benefit from a fully fit Antolin Alcaraz the defender suffers a serious shoulder injury during the draw with Swansea which is likely to side line the player for a "long time."

Alcaraz has struggled since his arrival in 2013 - a series of niggling muscular problems restricted the defender to just five starts in his first season but having returned to full fitness in October the Paraguayan international looked to be the preferred option [ahead of Distin] starting the last three Premier League games. With Everton competing on a number of fronts - including Europe - Roberto Martinez will need to consider his options and the prolonged absence of Alcaraz could provide young defender Tyias Browning with an opportunity to stake his claim with central defender John Stones still recovering from ankle surgery.

Antolin Alcaraz played well in his second start of the season and came out with 11 Yahoo! Fantasy points.

Alcaraz started at center-back as Everton are struggling with injuries and played well, pleasing fantasy managers with 11 points. He registered a blocked shot, five passes intercepted, and four tackles won. Alcaraz will be a good fantasy pick for as long as he is starting, but with Everton's back-line recovering, that may not be for too long.

Antolin Alcaraz has been ruled out of Everton's weekend matchup with Aston Villa, as Roberto Martinez struggles to piece together an injury-plagued defense.

With Sylvain Distin and Seamus Coleman also out of the picture, Everton will have to depend on the likes of John Stones and veteran Tony Hibbert to fill in and try and keep a Villa team down that are bursting with confidence after a four goal display midweek. With Everton having just shipped four goals themselves, investment in the back may be difficult to trust, even with budget options beckoning.

A surprise omission from the squad for Everton in their previous match against Norwich City, it has now been revealed that Antolin Alcaraz was absent due to muscle fatigue, and the condition is set to keep him sidelined for two weeks.

A tough break for those who invested in Alcaraz as an attractive budget defensive option, as no reports surfaced right up until kickoff that he would be unavailable. Phil Jageilka made a swift return at center back so the window for using Alcaraz looks to have been a short lived one.

According to Everton's official Twitter page, "(Roberto) Martinez says he won't rush Antolin Alcaraz after he returned to action in a behind-closed-doors friendly this week."

Martinez had been commenting on Alcaraz's progress in recent press conferences, and the manager will welcome his former Wigan defender back into the mix, as the Toffees are set to be without the services of Leighton Baines. Alcaraz could bump Sylvain Distin over to left back while Baines is out or beat him outright for the center back spot.

Antolin Alcaraz, nursing a hernia injury since being signed by Everton over the summer, has finally returned to fitness and is available for selection, but manager Roberto Martinez stated he will not start the weekend against rivals Liverpool.

Martinez stated it would be unfair to throw the veteran back into action in such a fierce matchup, but will likely look for a competition battle between Alcaraz and fellow veteran Sylvain Distin to partner Phil Jagielka in the center of the Toffee defense.

Former Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz has confirmed that he will be following Roberto Martinez to Everton.

Everton's defense is aging - especially at center back - so what have Everton done? They've gone out and purchased another aging center back in Antolin Alcaraz (30). Alcaraz is a free agent so Everton can't be faulted for spending their transfer kitty in the wrong place. The main concern is that he was injured for a chunk of last season and with limited resources for wages the risk exists that his injury problems will increase as he continues to age. If he stays healthy for most of his two year deal he'll be a very solid reserve center back behind Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka.

New Everton boss Roberto Martinez is rumored to be going back to his old employer Wigan for Antolin Alcaraz along with Aiden McGeady from Spartak Moscow.

Another day, another rumor linking Martinez with Wigan players. What is surprising is that he'd be linked with a defender - Wigan's consistent flaw under Martinez was an inadequate defense. McGeady would also be an odd choice given the possibility of purchasing the younger and more Premier League-proven Callum McManaman. McManaman would also retain the possibility of getting Everton bigger fee when sold while McGeady - while not old at 27 - won't be a hot commodity in two or three years when Everton may be ready to sell.
