Cory Schneider admitted that his injured hip had been bothering him for a while.
Schneider finally got surgery to repair the injury in May. "It was something that had kind of cropped maybe a year and a half ago, a season and a half ago," Schneider said on the podcast. "It's just something that nags and it there, but you don't ever feel like it's bad enough that you need to sit out for six months, because there's no real good time to do it, unfortunately." The 32-year-old had a 17-16-6 record with a 2.93 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage last season. There's a chance he could be ready for the start of the season. Aug 15 - 1:17 PM

With several goaltenders under contract, Mackenzie Blackwood is not guaranteed a spot in the AHL for the upcoming season.

The two NHL spots will belong to both Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid, while Eddie Lack will presumably be the starter for Binghamton of the AHL. That leaves one AHL spot for either Blackwood or Cam Johnson who was signed as a college free-agent towards the end of the season. Blackwood remains New Jersey's best goaltending prospect, but he'll need to bounce back in the AHL this season if he wishes to become Schneider's backup when Kinkaid's contract expires at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season. Blackwood posted a 3.41 goals-against-average and .882 save percentage with Binghamton last season.

After Keith Kinkaid's strong 2017-18 campaign, he might enter the season as the Devils' 1B goalie as opposed to being the backup.

Kinkaid certainly seemed to earn the starting gig towards the end of the season and even started in two playoff games. Granted, Kinkaid struggled in those contests, allowing Cory Schneider to step back in and do well the rest of the way even if the Devils were still eliminated, but taking in the campaign as a whole, it was an encouraging one for Kinkaid. It wouldn't be surprising to see Kinkaid and Schneider split the Devils' starts roughly even early in the season and for that to continue unless one of them clearly establishes himself above the other.

Keith Kinkaid may get the nod again for New Jersey Saturday against the Kings.

Kinkaid has won five of his last six starts and eight of his last 10, so the option is certainly there if coach John Hynes wants to ride the hot hand. Cory Schneider has struggled, losing three games in a row, but the Devils need to get him going again down the stretch. Hynes has apparently already decided who will start, but he hasn't announced it yet.

Keith Kinkaid will start start Tuesday at Pittsburgh.

Cory Schneider is getting closer to a return to the lineup and could join the team in Florida for Thursday's match against the Panthers.

Keith Kinkaid has been put on injured reserve.

Kinkaid exited Saturday's game against Philadelphia because of a groin injury. There is no timetable for his return. Cory Schneider is expected to return from an illness on Monday and Ken Appleby still stay with the team as the backup goalie.

Keith Kinkaid will be in goal for Tuesday's match versus the New York Islanders.

Cory Schneider was going to start, but he has been scratched due to an illness. Ken Appleby has been summoned from the minors to serve as Kinkaid's understudy. Kinkaid has a 5-3-2 record this season with a 3.31 GAA and .897 save percentage.

Keith Kinkaid will start on either Friday or Saturday.

Devils coach John Hynes didn't specify which contest Kinkaid would appear in, but did say that the goaltenders would split the next two games. The most likely scenario is that Cory Schneider will start on Friday against his former team, the Vancouver Canucks, and then Kinkaid will face Detroit on Saturday, but we'll have to wait and see.

Keith Kinkaid will be the Devils' starting goaltender on Friday.

Cory Schneider (lower body) might be available, but even if he is, he'll be serving as the backup goaltender. This decision gives the Devils some certainty in net ahead of the contest and allows them to ease Schneider back into the lineup if he is healthy enough to be in the lineup.

Keith Kinkaid will start on either Thursday or Friday.

Devils coach John Hynes hasn't named his starter for either contest, but he did say that Cory Schneider wouldn't be used in both games. The likely scenario is that Schneider will start on Thursday against Ottawa and Kinkaid will face San Jose Friday night, but we'll see.
