Cory Schneider (groin) wasn't on the ice Thursday.
Schneider had been skating recently and even participated in Wednesday's lightly populated optional skate. Don't read too much into his absence on Thursday though as he's still expected to skate on Friday. Under ideal circumstances, he might make his return next week. Feb 23 - 4:55 AM

Keith Kinkaid has been put on injured reserve.

Kinkaid exited Saturday's game against Philadelphia because of a groin injury. There is no timetable for his return. Cory Schneider is expected to return from an illness on Monday and Ken Appleby still stay with the team as the backup goalie.

Keith Kinkaid will be in goal for Tuesday's match versus the New York Islanders.

Cory Schneider was going to start, but he has been scratched due to an illness. Ken Appleby has been summoned from the minors to serve as Kinkaid's understudy. Kinkaid has a 5-3-2 record this season with a 3.31 GAA and .897 save percentage.

Keith Kinkaid will start on either Friday or Saturday.

Devils coach John Hynes didn't specify which contest Kinkaid would appear in, but did say that the goaltenders would split the next two games. The most likely scenario is that Cory Schneider will start on Friday against his former team, the Vancouver Canucks, and then Kinkaid will face Detroit on Saturday, but we'll have to wait and see.

Keith Kinkaid will be the Devils' starting goaltender on Friday.

Cory Schneider (lower body) might be available, but even if he is, he'll be serving as the backup goaltender. This decision gives the Devils some certainty in net ahead of the contest and allows them to ease Schneider back into the lineup if he is healthy enough to be in the lineup.

Keith Kinkaid will start on either Thursday or Friday.

Devils coach John Hynes hasn't named his starter for either contest, but he did say that Cory Schneider wouldn't be used in both games. The likely scenario is that Schneider will start on Thursday against Ottawa and Kinkaid will face San Jose Friday night, but we'll see.

Keith Kinkaid is projected to make his season debut this coming week.

New Jersey plays back-to-back on Friday and Saturday against Washington and the New York Rangers, respectively. Kinkaid could get the nod for one of those contests.

Although Keith Kinkaid has started in three of the Devils' last five games, Devils coach John Hynes isn't committing to him getting roughly half of the remaining nine starts.

"We’ll see," Hynes said. "The objective, like everything, is we want to give guys opportunities but it also comes down to performance, too. We’ll give guys opportunities as long as they play well and deserve them. We’re not just going to keep giving guys opportunities if they’re not going to perform at a level that warrants them being in a game all the time." Kinkaid has done fairly well recently while Cory Schneider has struggled with a 2.97 GAA and .897 save percentage in seven March contests. The fact that it's even a reasonable possibility that Kinkaid might start in four or more of the Devils' remaining games is big for the backup goaltender and another knock on Schneider's disappointing campaign.
