Nick Foles completed 35-of-48 passes for 334 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' Week 2 loss at Tampa Bay.
Foles' efficiency looks decent on paper, but he gripped the ball too long in the pocket, took six sacks, and needed an entire half to get the offense moving against a bad defense. Foles remains a high-end NFL backup, but he's obviously a severe downgrade from Carson Wentz. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Wentz will have a real chance to return for Week 3 against the Colts. Sep 16 - 4:48 PM

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Carson Wentz (knee) is expected to be sidelined "several more weeks."

Per RapSheet, Wentz could be sidelined until October. Wentz reportedly looked great in pre-game warmups on Thursday, but the Eagles are intent on being as thorough and cautious as possible with their franchise player. RapSheet reports that had Wentz just torn his ACL he would have already been back by now. It's his LCL damage that has prolonged his recovery. Nick Foles, despite his playoff heroics, looked dreadful in the preseason. Foles' early play could certainly have an effect on Wentz's timeline.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson confirmed Sunday that Carson Wentz (ACL) still has not been cleared for contact.

Pederson declined to name a starting quarterback for Week 1 versus the Falcons, but it's become all but certain that Nick Foles will be under center for Thursday night's opener. Wentz won't be game-ready until he's cleared for contact, and at this point, it's unclear when that might be. Foles, who completed 23-of-30 passes for 246 yards against Atlanta in last year's postseason, will be an acceptable streamer for Week 1.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Eagles will start Nick Foles in Week 1 as Carson Wentz continues to rehab his torn ACL.

With Wentz yet to be cleared for contract, the Eagles didn't have much choice with the opener just five days away. Wentz isn't eligible for the reserve/PUP list — meaning the Eagles expect him back some time in the first six games — but he appears genuinely week to week. When Wentz does return, it could be without No. 1 receiver Alshon Jeffery, who also avoided PUP but is expected to miss multiple games as he continues to rehab his shoulder.

Carson Wentz (knee) was seen throwing up to 50 yards prior to Super Bowl LII.

No longer confined to crutches, Wentz let it rip during pregame warmups on Sunday, throwing balls up to 50 yards off his back foot. Wentz is making noticeable progress in his recovery from a torn ACL and expects to be ready for Week 1. Despite the injury, the second-year signal caller has promised not to change his style of play.
