Rodney Hood said he wants to put the ball on the floor and to use his midrange game more than he did after being traded to Cleveland last season.
Hood was not the player that he wanted to be after his midseason trade and hopes to change that this year. He was used as a catch-and-shoot guy last year, but the Cavs offense will be a lot different post-LeBron. Hood is expected to be the team's second leading scorer, which makes him an interesting pick in the late rounds. Oct 14 - 10:23 AM

LeBron James triple-doubled on Wednesday with 33 points (13-of-28 FGs, 6-of-7 FTs), 11 assists, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks, but it wasn't enough to avoid a Game 3 home defeat.

LBJ threw himself an impressive alley-oop in the first quarter which you can watch via the link below, and an ankle tweak prior to halftime didn't appear to hamper him. He wasn't as dominant as usual down the stretch of a must-win game, but there's no reason to think he'll be limited for a must-win home game on Friday. What he needs is added production from his teammates -- Rodney Hood and J.R. Smith reached double-digits, but Kevin Love scored most of his 20 points in the first half and the rest of the roster was vacant offensively.
Jun 6 - 11:58 PM

J.R. Smith and Kyle Korver will move into the Cavs' starting lineup on Wednesday, replacing Rodney Hood and Jeff Green.

Rodney Hood and Jeff Green head to the bench as a consequence, which isn't a shock since both guys struggled during the Cavs' lopsided Game 1 defeat.
Apr 18 - 6:49 PM

Kyle Korver (foot) will be on a minutes limit for Sunday's Game 1 vs. Indiana.

Rodney Hood (Achilles) will start vs. the Pacers, but that could be subject to change this series dependent upon how things progress. Regardless, we wouldn't recommend relying on Korver in any fantasy setting—even as a specialist—given he's still banged up and on a minutes limit.
Apr 15 - 2:07 PM

Kyle Korver (foot) is questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Raptors.

Korver is dealing with right foot soreness, which has opened up minutes for Rodney Hood and J.R. Smith. We should have an update on Korver's status after the Cavs shootaround Tuesday morning.
Apr 3 - 9:26 AM

Jose Calderon will move into the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Mavericks, with George Hill (ankle) unavailable.

Calderon will be joined by Rodney Hood, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Larry Nance, but Calderon getting the start doesn't mean much in fantasy hoops. Through 30 games as a starter this year, Calderon owns averages of 5.9 points, 2.7 assists and 1.1 triples per contest.
Apr 1 - 4:43 PM

J.R. Smith (illness) is questionable for Friday's game vs. New Orleans.

Smith is coming off one of his better games of the season. In Wednesday's win over the Hornets, he tallied 19 points (on 8-of-9 shooting), five rebounds, three assists, three steals and one 3-pointer in 31 minutes. Kyle Korver (foot) has also been ruled out of Friday's contest. If Smith is unable to play, Jordan Clarkson and Rodney Hood would see an uptick in playing time.
Mar 30 - 11:23 AM

Larry Nance is starting for Jeff Green (illness) on Sunday vs. the Nets.

Nance looked great in his first game back from his hamstring injury, scoring 15 points with 10 rebounds, two assists and one turnover in 22 minutes. He was a must-own player before the injury, so make sure he's not floating around your wire. Nance is expected to see a bump in minutes on Sunday in addition to Rodney Hood and Tristan Thompson who also just returned from injuries.
Mar 25 - 11:40 AM

George Hill scored 22 points during Wednesday's win vs. Toronto, going 10-of-11 from the field with two 3-pointers.

Hill added three rebounds, two steals and one block in 36 minutes, marking easily one of his best games since joining the Cavs in early February. The absence of Kyle Korver (personal) and Rodney Hood (back) opened up the rotation, and it helped that Toronto's defense was unusually lax, so we're not reading much into Hill's mini eruption.
Mar 21 - 9:53 PM

Jose Calderon started for Kyle Korver (personal) on Wednesday, posting 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting with four 3-pointers, four assists and one rebound in 27 minutes.

Korver is away from the Cavs indefinitely following the death of his brother, and Cleveland opted to shift George Hill to SG while keeping their second-unit rotation intact. We've already seen what Calderon looks like as a starter at age 36, and it's not inspiring -- in 26 previous starts, he averaged 5.6 points, 1.1 threes, 2.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals. Tonight's solid line aside, that's all owners can expect if Korver misses more time.
Mar 21 - 9:52 PM

Jeff Green started on Sunday but finished with only seven points on 2-of-8 shooting, three rebounds, one block and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes.

The Cavs were missing Rodney Hood (back) and Cedi Osman (hip) tonight, which forced coach Ty Lue to go with a small lineup featuring Green at SF and LeBron at PF. "If we're small, I don't see how [we can prevent offensive rebounds]," Lue said before the game. "We just gotta continue to keep boxing out and we gotta gang rebound." The Cavs were crushed 51-37 on the glass anyway, and Green is too inconsistent to own even if he earns more starts.
Mar 12 - 12:43 AM

J.R. Smith earned his one-game suspension from the team Thursday for throwing a bowl of soup at assistant coach Damon Jones, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

You can't make this stuff up, folks. The jokes will continue for the rest of the season and beyond, but Smith won't miss any more time. Coach Ty Lue told reporters on Thursday that Smith will return to practice Friday and start at shooting guard on Saturday when the Cavs host the Nuggets. Rodney Hood will get bumped back to the bench.
Mar 2 - 10:47 AM

The Pistons have reportedly "ramped up their efforts" to move Stanley Johnson.

Johnson netted a career-high 26 points on Tuesday to go with 10 rebounds, four dimes, two steals, one triple and a block, so that should help his trade value. Detroit has reportedly been eying Rodney Hood, but it's not clear if Utah is interested in a Hood-Johnson swap. In terms of fantasy hoops, a move to Utah wouldn't be great for Johnson's rest-of-season outlook.
Jan 31 - 11:16 AM

Alec Burks had nine points, two rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.

Rodney Hood (leg) was out for the third straight game and Utah has been vague about his possible return date -- we'll consider him questionable for Friday. Burks was averaging 16.0 points in his previous two games, but his minutes aren't reliable enough even with Hood temporarily sidelined. Tread carefully.
Jan 24 - 11:10 PM

Donovan Mitchell (toe) will start vs. the Thunder on Saturday.

Rodney Hood should revert to being the second unit's go-to scorer, with Mitchell starting alongside Ricky Rubio in the backcourt. Make sure Utah's star rookie is locked into your lineups in season-long leagues.
Sat, Dec 23, 2017 06:23:00 PM

Donovan Mitchell (bruised toe) will be a game-time decision vs. the Spurs on Thursday.

Mitchell picked up the first DNP of his NBA career on Wednesday, but hopefully he'll feel well enough during warmups to give it a go tonight. If he winds up missing another game, expect Rodney Hood to start while Alec Burks picks up the slack with the second unit.
Thu, Dec 21, 2017 02:41:00 PM

Donovan Mitchell (toe) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Thunder.

This is the first time that Mitchell will be hitting the sidelines, but maybe he'll be able to get back out there for Thursday's matchup with the Spurs. Rodney Hood will likely return to the starting five tonight, and per, Hood's usage spikes to 32.5 sans Mitchell and Rudy Gobert so he's on the radar as a potential DFS target. Ricky Rubio and Alec Burks also figure to see an uptick in minutes, and Derrick Favors (eye), who is expected back tonight, should see some increased responsibility on the offensive end.
Wed, Dec 20, 2017 12:51:00 PM

Derrick Favors (eye) is being listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Thunder.

With Donovan Mitchell (toe) also being listed as questionable for Wednesday's game, the Jazz could be hurting for offensive production tomorrow. Favors' absence would likely result in another start for Ekpe Udoh, while guys like Joe Johnson, Rodney Hood and Alec Burks would see an uptick in usage. Check back for another update following Wednesday morning's shootaround.
Tue, Dec 19, 2017 06:07:00 PM

Alec Burks came off the bench on Wednesday for 13 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

Burks made 6-of-13 shots with one 3-pointer and his 25 minutes were in line with his recent workload. That's a very positive sign, since Rodney Hood (ankle) was back in action tonight, and Burks' owners should hang onto him in the hopes that he can hold onto 24+ minutes per game.
Thu, Dec 14, 2017 01:03:00 AM

Alec Burks hit 6-of-12 shots and two 3-pointers for 17 points, three assists and two steals in 27 minutes off the bench in Thursday's loss to the Rockets.

He was a bit quiet on Tuesday with 11 points on 2-of-9 shooting, but got back on track tonight. He'll fade a bit once Rodney Hood is back from his ankle injury, but for now, Burks has basically become a must-own player as long as Hood's in street clothes.
Fri, Dec 8, 2017 01:26:00 AM

Thabo Sefolosha hit 5-of-9 shots and two 3-pointers for 14 points, five rebounds, a steal and a block in 26 minutes off the bench on Thursday.

He had 11 points, eight boards, four steals, two blocks and a 3-pointer in his previous game and is averaging 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 0.6 blocks and 1.4 3-pointers on 61 percent shooting over his last five. If you need steals, blocks and 3-pointers, he's worth a look right now, but will also take a hit once Rodney Hood is back from his ankle injury.
