Reggie Jackson made 7-of-20 from the field for 19 points with two rebounds, four assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 35 minutes against the Nets on Wednesday.
The high minute total is a great sign for a guy who has been injured for most of the summer. Jackson also played next to Ish Smith down the stretch, which could become a wrinkle for coach Dwane Casey after he used Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet together a lot. Jackson has his holes to his game, but overall those who drafted him should feel OK based on his low ADP. Oct 17 - 10:44 PM

Bruce Brown is being listed as a starter for Wednesday's season opener against the Nets.

Being listed as a starter in the lineup notes doesn't necessarily mean that Brown will indeed start, but with both Reggie Bullock (illness) and Stanley Johnson (toe) out tonight, it would make sense for Brown to join the starting unit. Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard, Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond are also listed amongst the starters for Wednesday's game.
Oct 17 - 6:58 PM

Pistons coach Dwane Casey intends to play Ish Smith alongside Reggie Jackson at times this season.

"I really liked Reggie and Ish together and it helps Reggie because he’s an excellent 3-point shooter," Casey said. "[I]t gives another ball-handler in the lineup. We’ll see that lineup some this year, with multiple point guards." This gives Smith's fantasy outlook a substantial boost, but he's still not a guy to target with R-Jax healthy and Blake Griffin dictating much of the offense.
Oct 14 - 7:54 PM

Jose Calderon made a fill-in start on Wednesday but had just one point, one assist and one turnover in a win vs. the Thunder.

Calderon played 19 minutes with Reggie Jackson (ankle) unavailable, presumably because coach Dwane Casey wanted to keep the second unit together to begin the game. Ish Smith wound up starting the second half anyway, and even if Calderon does earn sporadic starts when Jackson is unavailable, he's a poor fantasy option as an extremely low-usage table-setter for the offense.
Oct 3 - 10:54 PM

Ish Smith started the second half of Wednesday's road win, posting six points, five assists, four rebounds and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes.

The Pistons were torched by Dennis Schroder early so they opted to have Smith join the starters in place of Jose Calderon. It must be noted that Reggie Jackson (right ankle) was unavailable tonight, but unless he misses extended time there's no reason to own Smith in fantasy leagues.
Oct 3 - 10:52 PM

Eric Moreland will start Monday vs. the Raptors, with Andre Drummond (Achilles) unavailable.

Joining Moreland in the starting five will be Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard, Stanley Johnson and Anthony Tolliver. In Moreland's previous start this season, he finished with eight points, eight boards, four dimes, two steals and a block, so he could be someone to think about streaming.
Apr 9 - 7:01 PM

Andre Drummond (Achilles) has been ruled out for Monday's matchup with the Raptors.

Drummond does not have a history of Achilles issues, but the Pistons are on the second leg of a back-to-back set, and there's zero incentive for Drummond to push through anything with the playoffs no longer a reality. The Pistons will be very thin up front tonight with Blake Griffin (ankle) also unavailable, so there will be plenty of minutes for guys like Henry Ellenson, Anthony Tolliver and Eric Moreland. Reggie Jackson will be very busy on offense in this one.
Apr 9 - 5:26 PM

Andre Drummond (stomach bug) did not go through shootaround, but he's hopeful he'll be able to play on Wednesday against the 76ers.

Drummond got into a bit of a skirmish with Quincy Acy on Sunday, but he will only be fined and not suspended. However, the illness could keep him out tonight, which could result in Eric Moreland earning the start, with guys like Reggie Jackson, Reggie Bullock and Stanley Johnson doing more on the offensive end. Stay tuned.
Apr 4 - 11:41 AM

Ish Smith went off vs. Brooklyn on Sunday, making 7-of-8 shots for 17 points, two 3-pointers, two assists, one steal and one rebound in just 17 minutes of action.

He was 7-of-7 in the first half alone, but eventually took a backseat to Reggie Jackson. Smith came in shooting 43.2% from deep over his past 28 games, way above his career average 29.4%, which is an interesting wrinkle to watch during the offseason. He and Jackson are both under contract next season, though, and it's hard to envision Ish being drafted in standard leagues while R-Jax is locked into the starting PG job.
Apr 1 - 8:55 PM

Ish Smith led Detroit with 22 points and nine assists on Wednesday, making 8-of-13 FGs and 6-of-7 FTs with four rebounds and two steals.

Smith also had just one turnover in 33 minutes and he helped limit the Hawks to 42.7% shooting tonight, which has been a weak spot for the Pistons lately. This was Smith's best performance since Feb. 3 and he heads into the break on a high note, even if this came against a decimated Hawks team playing without Dennis Schroder. If you're holding him, just remember that Reggie Jackson (ankle) could be back in by March.
Feb 14 - 10:02 PM

Langston Galloway was a healthy DNP-CD on Sunday.

Galloway's backup role was usurped by Jameer Nelson tonight, although coach Stan Van Gundy said afterward about his rotations, "I don't know we'll stay that way." The Pistons' backup PG spot has been rotating since Reggie Jackson (ankle) went down and there's no reason to rely on Galloway, Nelson or Dwight Buycks.
Feb 11 - 7:51 PM

Ish Smith was back in the starting five on Sunday, finishing with seven points on 3-of-9 shooting, five assists, four rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes.

Stan Van Gundy mixed things up tonight, promoting Smith while bumping Dwight Buycks ahead of Langston Galloway in the PG rotation. Smith has been unimpressive even with the starting job this season, and he made some poor decisions late in this 121-104 road loss. Reggie Jackson (ankle) could be cleared for basketball activities in a few weeks, so there's no real long-term upside here.
Jan 28 - 10:15 PM

Ish Smith shifted to the Pistons' bench on Wednesday, where he shot 6-of-17 to finish with 14 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals and one 3-pointer.

Smith logged 33 minutes tonight, which is ironically more than he's averaged as a starter (29.8) in place of Reggie Jackson. It's unclear whether Langston Galloway will stick in the starting PG role, but either way Smith's owners should be satisfied with his role tonight. Let's see how the minutes are divvied up vs. Russell Westbrook and the Thunder on Saturday.
Jan 25 - 12:43 AM

Langston Galloway was quiet as a starter on Wednesday with five points, four assists and two rebounds in 20 minutes.

Galloway had overtaken Dwight Buycks for the backup-PG job, and Stan Van Gundy gave him another promotion tonight ahead of Ish Smith (14 points in 33 minutes). It was still Smith who played the lion's share of the minutes, but owners who speculatively added Galloway should give him another game or two. It helps that Reggie Jackson (ankle) still doesn't have a clear return date.
Jan 25 - 12:43 AM

Dwight Buycks came off the bench for 17 points (6-of-10 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), three assists and two rebounds during Wednesday's road win, adding two 3-pointers and one steal in 24 minutes.

Reggie Jackson's severe ankle injury has thrust Buycks into the backup PG role behind Ish Smith (eight points, five assists in 24 minutes), and he's making the most of the opportunity. He's providing a trickle of stats, particularly scoring and assists, but hasn't yet done enough to merit ownership outside of deep leagues.
Jan 11 - 12:02 AM

Ish Smith posted six points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 31 minutes during Wednesday's loss in Miami.

Detroit's default starting PG while Reggie Jackson (ankle) is out, Smith continues to log solid minutes ahead of backup Dwight Buycks. He shot just 3-of-10 from the field tonight, but over the past six games he's averaging a solid 13.2 points (48.6% FGs, 100.0% FTs), 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 0.7 steals. You could do worse for a low-end PG.
Jan 4 - 12:09 AM

Dwight Buycks, who is on a two-way contract with Detroit, is determined to make an impression on the Pistons.

With Reggie Jackson (ankle) sidelined for next six-to-eight weeks, Buycks has an opportunity to show he's worthy of sticking in the NBA. "This is my dream, to be here and be here permanently," he said. "It’s up to me to put the work in and be successful out here. I’m just happy to be here." Buycks is unlikely to see an immediate role behind Ish Smith and Langston Galloway, but it's not ludicrous to think he could play his way into the point guard rotation.

Pistons beat writer Rod Beard expects Langston Galloway to play about 20 minutes per game as the backup point guard with Reggie Jackson (ankle) out of the lineup.

Galloway has averaged just north of 14.5 minutes per game on the season, so it's logical to expect a bump in playing time with Jackson unavailable for the next six-to-eight weeks. For what it's worth, Beard expects interim starter Ish Smith to play around 28 minutes per contest. As a starter in 2016-17, Smith averaged 29.5 minutes per game. Of the two, Ish is a far better fantasy target while Galloway could get onto the radar as a 3-point specialist.

Avery Bradley (right groin) will not play Sunday vs. the Magic.

This will be Bradley's second straight game on the sidelines, which will result in Luke Kennard earning his second consecutive start, and Kennard will be joined by Reggie Jackson, Reggie Bullock, Tobias Harris and Andre Drummond. The fact that Bradley was a game-time call today suggests that he's getting close, so maybe he'll be able to get back out there for Wednesday's game in Dallas.

Tobias Harris scored just two points on 0-of-7 shooting in Tuesday's blowout loss to Denver, adding eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.

After the game, coach Stan Van Gundy called out Harris, Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson and Avery Bradley after Detroit's seventh straight loss. "In my opinion, these are our four best players. They have to play better," SVG said. "If you want the money, want the credit when things go well, you have to have some accountability." SVG added that this loss was an "embarrassment, so fantasy owners should be on the lookout for any potential lineup changes. Harris was averaging 18.0 points in 35.2 minutes in his previous six games, so he should bounce back from this dud on Thursday vs. the Hawks.
Tue, Dec 12, 2017 10:37:00 PM

Ish Smith was on the court down the stretch on Sunday, finishing with 11 points (5-of-13 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), six rebounds, five assists and one steal in 29 minutes.

Smith helped Detroit close to within four points with 4:19 remaining tonight, but his efforts weren't enough to snap the Pistons' losing skid. Reggie Jackson was lousy with two points on 0-of-9 shooting, but it's nearly impossible to predict which games Smith will win the position battle. Leave him on the wire.
