J.D. Martinez was named a Silver Slugger winner as both an outfielder and a Designated Hitter on Thursday.
Yep. That's allowed. Your other AL winners: C Salvador Perez, 1B Jose Abreu, 2B Jose Altuve, SS Francisco Lindor, 3B Jose Ramirez, with Mookie Betts and Mike Trout the other outfielders. It's not the first time we've had someone nominated for multiple awards, but it is the first time that we've seen someone win both. It's tough to argue, although ignoring Khris Davis and his fantastic season in favor of him winning two is a bit absurd. There weren't many better hitters in baseball, though, and it's fun to see a bit of history made. Nov 8 - 7:03 PM

Mookie Betts (side) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.

Betts was forced to exit Sunday's game due to left side soreness, but fortunately it wasn't anything serious. Still, the Red Sox understandably don't want to take any chances with their MVP candidate. J.D. Martinez will start in right field while Eduardo Nunez serves as the designated hitter.

Mookie Betts is not in the Red Sox starting lineup Thursday night against the Blue Jays.

J.D. Martinez will play right field and Blake Swihart will DH as the AL East leaders go for a series sweep. This looks to be a routine breather for Betts.

Mookie Betts is getting the day off Wednesday.

J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts, Eduardo Nunez, and Ian Kinsler will also grab some rest during this matinee game against the Braves. Blake Swihart is in right field, Brock Holt is playing shortstop, and Brandon Phillips will get his first Red Sox start at second base. Rafael Devers is playing third.
Sep 5 - 10:13 AM

Jackie Bradley is not in Monday's lineup against the Braves.

He'll take a seat with the DH unavailable under National League rules. J.D. Martinez will start in right field.
Sep 3 - 10:57 AM

Xander Bogaerts will hit cleanup Tuesday against the Indians.

Bogaerts has primarily hit fifth recently, but he'll slide into the cleanup spot against right-hander Shane Bieber. J.D. Martinez will slide into the No 3 spot, with Mitch Moreland hitting fifth.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Bogaerts will bat clean-up tonight for the first time in almost a month, and makes for a solid DFS play in all formats. He's 11 for his last 32 (.343 avg), and could be pretty low-owned with many strong SS plays today. I don't mind him in cash games and would definitely get some exposure in GPPs.

Andrew Benintendi is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Wednesday against the Nationals.

Jul 3 - 2:16 PM

Jackie Bradley is not in the Red Sox's lineup Thursday against the Yankees.

It will be his second straight absence. Bradley remains a Gold Glove-caliber center fielder but his bat has fallen silent this year as he's hit just .173 with two homers and 31 strikeouts in 110 at-bats. Mookie Betts will slide over to center field with J.D. Martinez drawing the start in right. As good as he is on defense, Bradley will struggle for playing time if he doesn't start hitting.
May 10 - 6:13 PM

Andrew Benintendi is not in the Red Sox's lineup Thursday against the Rangers.

The Red Sox are stacking their lineup with right-handed bats against Texas lefty Mike Minor. J.D. Martinez will handle left field in Benintendi's absence with Blake Swihart drawing a rare start at DH. Benintendi finished runner-up to Aaron Judge in Rookie of the Year voting last year but has struggled in the early going, batting just .252 with one homer in 105 at-bats. He does lead the team with five steals, however.

Benintendi went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Tuesday's blowout victory, but he'll sit against Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka. J.D. Martinez is in left field and Mitch Moreland is at first base. Rafael Devers will hit second.
Apr 11 - 3:08 PM

Jon Morosi of MLB Network confirms that the Pirates are still making Andrew McCutchen available in trade talks.

McCutchen was also said to be available last winter and again over the summer, but the Pirates' high asking price kept teams from seriously exploring a deal for the veteran outfielder. Morosi says the Giants have expressed the most interest in McCutchen and notes that he could be their backup plan if they are unable to land J.D. Martinez in free agency. McCutchen is due $14.5 million in 2018 via a club option that was exercised in early November. The 31-year-old batted .279/.363/.486 with 28 homers and 88 RBI over 156 games for Pittsburgh in 2017.
