Twins placed 1B Logan Morrison on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip impingement.
The news of Morrison's season-ending hip surgery broke earlier Saturday, so this move is just procedural. His season will end with a .186/.276/.368 line in 95 games played. The 30-year-old has an $8 million option for 2019 with a $1 million buyout, and it's hard to see the Twins picking that one up. Aug 11 - 10:14 PM

Joe Mauer is out of the Twins' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Indians.

Logan Morrison will also sit out the matinee game at Cleveland's Progressive Field. Miguel Sano is at first base, Eddie Rosario is at DH, Ehire Adrianza will play third base, and Johnny Field is drawing the start in left field.

Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Joe Mauer and Logan Morrison have passed through revocable waivers.

While it comes as no surprise, this means that they can now be traded to any team. Of course, that almost certainly won't happen. Mauer is still owed the remainder of his $23 million salary for this season and owns an underwhelming .725 OPS. He also has a full no-trade clause. Morrison has been a huge disappointment on his one-year, $5.5 million deal, with a .195/.289/.387 batting line in 91 games.

Joe Mauer is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Yankees.

He'll sit against veteran left-hander CC Sabathia. Logan Morrison will start at first base and bat seventh while Miguel Sano will DH and Eduardo Escobar will play third and bat cleanup.

Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com expects the Twins to place Kennys Vargas on outright waivers at the end of spring training.

Vargas, 27, is out of options, and the signing of Logan Morrison makes it extremely unlikely that he'll make the Opening Day roster. Bollinger writes that the Twins hope to keep Vargas in the organization, and because he's limited defensively to first base, there's a chance that he could clear and report to Triple-A Rochester. A team that's interested in adding some power to their lineup could give him a chance, however, and it shouldn't surprise anyone if Vargas was dealt at some point in the next two weeks.

Kevin Kiermaier is out of the Rays' starting lineup Thursday night against the Yankees.

Peter Bourjos will start in center field and bat ninth versus Yankees right-hander Sonny Gray. Steven Souza and Logan Morrison are also on the bench Thursday, with Mallex Smith drawing the nod in right field and hitting leadoff and Lucas Duda starting at first base and batting cleanup.
