Matt Wieters went 1-for-4 and cracked a three-run homer during a win over the Mets on Saturday.
He went yard off reliever Jerry Blevins with Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman aboard in the sixth inning. The blast gave the Nationals a commanding lead in the shutout victory. It was his seventh home run of the season to go with 28 RBI and a .226 batting average in 73 games played. Needless to say, he is no longer worthy of fantasy rosters. Sep 22 - 7:21 PM

Gio Gonzalez, Matt Wieters, and Ryan Zimmerman all passed through revocable trade waivers unclaimed, per Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post.

Those three players can now be dealt to dealt to any team before August 31. Gonzalez probably would have been an attractive trade chip at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but he has registered an 8.84 ERA in 19 1/3 innings (four starts) since the calendar flipped to August. The 32-year-old left-hander is due to become a free agent this winter. Wieters is also a free-agent-to-be. Zimmerman is signed through 2019 with a club option for 2020.

Ryan Zimmerman (oblique) will hit in a simulated game Monday.

He'll be joined by Matt Adams (finger) and Matt Wieters (hamstring). All three look relatively close to being activated. Zimmerman was moved to the 60-day disabled list Saturday and isn't eligible to return until July 9.

Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports that Spencer Kieboom will replace Matt Wieters (knee) on the Nationals' roster.

Kieboom needs to be added back onto the 40-man roster after being removed from it last March, but the club has multiple players they can transfer to the 60-day disabled list. The 27-year-old had one plate appearances with the Nats back in 2016 and is hitting .250/.337/.333 with one homer this season at Triple-A Syracuse.

MLB.com's Jane Lee reports that the Athletics have been in talks to sign Jonathan Lucroy or trade for Matt Wieters.

Lee's sources expect the A's to land one of the two catchers. Lucroy's market has been stagnant this offseason after he batted a disappointing .265/.345/.371 with six home runs last year for the Rangers and Rockies, but he makes sense as a rebound candidate for an Oakland team without a settled catching situation. The Nationals have been rumored to be looking at catching options outside the organization, so it's not a surprise they're shopping Wieters.
