MLB.com's Jamal Collier writes that the Nationals plan on "using more of a platoon" with Matt Wieters at catcher this season.
Wieters has hit better against lefties in his career, so it's unlikely we're talking about any sort of strict platoon here, but rather the Nats simply planning to rest the veteran catcher more. Coming off a season in which he hit an ugly .225/.288/.344, Wieters should only be considered in two-catcher leagues at this point. Pedro Severino will have to hold off non-roster invitee Miguel Montero to be the No. 2 behind Wieters. Feb 9 - 3:54 PM

Bryce Harper is not in the Nationals' lineup Monday.

It's Harper's first day off of the season, as he had started each of the team's first 18 games. The timing is unfortunate for his fantasy owners given that the day off comes at Coors Field. Adam Eaton will slide over to right field and Michael Taylor will get a start in center. The Nationals also have Jose Lobaton at catcher over Matt Wieters.

Jayson Werth (groin) remained out of the lineup Friday.

Werth tweaked his groin Wednesday and will miss a second straight start. The hope is that he'll be ready by Sunday. Chris Heisey is in left field. The Nationals are also sitting out Ryan Zimmerman and Matt Wieters, as Adam Lind is at first base and Jose Lobaton is catching.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker indicated Tuesday that the club is likely to trade Derek Norris after reaching an agreement with free agent catcher Matt Wieters.

Baker said "there's always someone looking for a front line catcher." The Nationals apparently didn't feel secure enough with Norris as their primary backstop, but the feeling is that he'll end up playing elsewhere in 2017 rather than serve as Wieters' backup. The 28-year-old batted just .186/.255/.328 last season, but he's capable of better and he's owed just $4.2 million in 2017. He could draw some interest in the days ahead.
