| C | 1 | Mikko Koivu ActiveMinnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher is hopeful that he can add one or two top pieces this offseason, through free agency or trade. The Wild's payroll is dropping this summer to near the NHL's cap floor of $48.4 million, and the GM is open to adding players through any means possible. "We have a lot of growth potential," Fletcher said. "The things we do well, we do well. Our weaknesses are obvious and transparent. But we're a team (for which) one or two players can make a big difference." Fletcher is optimistic that the growth of some young players will make a difference next season, too, but will be on the lookout for the top-end talents that can provide an immediate impact. Minnesota finished 35-36-11 this season. Apr 10 |
Matt Cullen SidelinedFinger surgery will keep Matt Cullen from playing in Minnesota’s final seven games. Cullen hurt his index finger Saturday when he blocked a shot by Buffalo’s Christian Ehrhoff. The center is the team’s fourth–leading scorer with 35 points, including 14 goals. Mar 27
Kyle Brodziak ActiveKyle Brodziak was clipped in the face by skate in Nashville on Tuesday, but he participated in Wednesday's practice and is expected to wear protection for the final two games of the regular season. "He's a little bruised," coach Mike Yeo said. "There's a nasty cut there. One thing about Brodzie is he's tough. Not tough as in he's going to get in 15 fights a year. Tough as in you see him block shots. You see times when he comes off the ice and he's hurt. Then, 30 seconds later, he's back and hasn't missed a shift. He's a real tough hockey player." Brodziak has had a career-year offensively in 2011-12 with 22 goals and 44 points in 80 matches. Apr 4
Warren Peters ActiveWarren Peters returned to action on Tuesday April 3. Apr 4
Chad Rau ActiveChad Rau was called up from the minors on Sunday. Rau was held off the scoresheet on Sunday. He now has two goals in seven NHL games this season in a few stints as he made his NHL debut on January 21. He had 11 goals and 31 points with Houston before his current callup. Mar 26
Jason Zucker ActiveJason Zucker had his NHL debut on Thursday. The second round pick, 59th overall, in the 2010 Draft signed a three-year entry level deal earlier in the week. He had 22 goals and 46 points in 38 games with the University of Denver and the Wild are really high on the center. He played 10:55 minutes and had three shots on goal. The Wild pulled a stunt on Zucker before the game as he led the team on the ice and they let him skate a lap by himself. "I knew right away," a laughing Zucker said. "When they said you're leading us on the ice, I knew that wasn't right. I had to go with it. I wasn't going to tell [Dany] Heatley, 'No.'" He has a lot of offensive upside and could be a fantasy option in a couple of years. Mar 30
| LW | 1 | Devin Setoguchi ActiveDevin Setoguchi (knee) underwent surgery following the conclusion of the Wild's season. The procedure was reportedly minor, so we don't expect this to impact Setoguchi in 2012-13. He had 19 goals and 36 points in 69 games. Apr 19 |
Guillaume Latendresse I.L.Guilluame Latedndresse, who has been out of action since mid-Decmeber due to a concussion, may not be back with the Wild next season. He will become a restricted free agent July 1st and there is talk that the Wild will not make him the necessary qualifying offer of $2.5 million. The team can either choose to let Latendresse walk for nothing or make him an offer for less than $2.5 million and hope he accepts it. We like Latendresse as a player, but he has only played 27 games the past two seasons. That makes him a fairly significant draft risk. Apr 8
Erik Christensen ActiveErik Christensen isn't likely to be back in Minnesota next season. Christensen was dealt from the New York Rangers to the Wild in early February. But just like every team he's been with, he's been extremely inconsistent. He started off his time with the Wild with no points and a minus-13 rating in his first 15 games, then had six goals in 10 games with the Wild out of the playoffs. "When we're looking at guys that we want wearing a Minnesota Wild jersey, there's certain elements and there's certain characteristics," Yeo said. "I think one of them has to be a gamer -- a big-game player. You want guys that want to be on the ice when the game's on the line, you want guys that perform at the best when games are most meaningful." Apr 10
Cal Clutterbuck ActiveCal Clutterbuck (illness) will rejoin the Wild on Tuesday. Clutterbuck missed three games due to the disease. He has 22 points and 95 penalty minutes in 61 games this season. Mar 13
Darroll Powe ActiveDarroll Powe scored the only Minnesota goal in the team's 5-1 loss to the Flyers Tuesday night. The goal was Powe's fourth of the season and it was fitting that it came against his former team. Nevertheless, he has no fantasy value. Jan 17
| RW | 1 | Dany Heatley ActiveDany Heatley underwent a minor procedure on his knee. Heatley scored 24 goals and registered 29 assists in 82 games this season. Given that the surgery was minor, we're currently assuming that Heatley will still be fine for the start of training camp. Apr 19 |
Pierre-Marc Bouchard I.L.Pierre-Marc Bouchard is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms. "Pressure to my head. My vision is a little off," Bouchard said, describing his symptoms. "I'm trying to stay positive because I don't feel as bad as I did in my first one -- that big one (March 25, 2009), but they're all different. I still have symptoms, so it's tough." Bouchard went through a period where he only played in one game over the course of 20 months because of a concussion. He has been out for 14 contests this time around and it doesn't sound like he'll return anytime soon. Feb 13
Nick Johnson ActiveNick Johnson registered three assists in the Wild's 5-4 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night. With Mikko Koivu's injury, Johnson has been steadily moving up the Wild depth chart and now has 22 points in 60 games on the season. However, tt's unlikely that Johnson's big night will have much of a direct impact on fantasy owners because he's only a marginal forward. Mar 1
Jed Ortmeyer ActiveJed Ortmeyer netted his first NHL goal since Mar. 28, 2010 on Sunday. Ortmeyer has spent the better part of the last two seasons in the AHL. He's a depth forward at this stage of his career and usually only plays in the NHL as an injury replacement. Feb 27
Jarod Palmer I.L.Jarod Palmer (upper body) has been placed on the injured reserve list. Palmer was already expected to miss Saturday's game due to the ailment. He has a goal in six games with the Wild. Dec 31
Stephane Veilleux ActiveStephane Veilleux was called up from the minors on Sunday February 26. Veilleux logged 9:30 minutes on Sunday. He finished the game with a plus-one rating. Feb 27
Carson McMillan I.L.The Minnesota Wild have placed Carson McMillan on the injured reserve list with a lower body injury. McMillan was likely injured during Tuesday's game against Anaheim. He has a goal and three points in 11 games with 11 penalty minutes. He will miss at least a week with the injury but has no real fantasy value. Feb 16
| D | 1 | Tom Gilbert ActiveTom Gilbert has played 30-plus minutes for four straight games. The defenseman has played well since the trade deadline deal with the Oilers for Nick Schultz although he has only five assists in 19 games. He played a whopping 34:17 minutes Thursday. Apr 7 |
Jared Spurgeon SidelinedThe Minnesota Wild have confirmed that Jared Spurgeon suffered a concussion on Thursday. Spurgeon was elbowed by Calgary's Alex Tanguay. Concussions are difficult to put a timetable around, but the Wild's season will end in a little more than two weeks. Mar 23
Kurtis Foster ActiveKurtis Foster should get some playing time over Minnesota's final eight games of the season. With the concussion to Jared Spurgeon, Foster, who has been a healthy scratch for many of the Wild's recent games, should get a generous amount of playing time. Foster does have a heavy slapshot, and if he is given power-play ice time, he could chalk up a few points. Mar 25
Marco Scandella ActiveAfter missing Saturday night's contest against the Kings, Marco Scandella will play against Chicago Sunday night. He has obviously recovered quickly from an upper-body injury and is needed due to the injury to Steven Kampfer. Keep Scandella in your lineup if you need him. Apr 1
Clayton Stoner ActiveThe Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Clayton Stoner to a two-year deal worth $2.1 million. He was slated for unrestricted free agency on July 1 if a new contract had not been reached. Stoner suffered through another injury-plagued season in 2011-12 that witnessed him dress in 51 contests after he played in 57 the year before. He picked up five points, 72 hits, 80 blocks, 62 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating last campaign and his physical style is well-liked by coach Mike Yeo. He could have some fantasy value if he can stay healthier in 2012-13. May 10
Justin Falk ActiveJustin Falk will return to active duty on Thursday from his knee injury. The Minnesota defenseman has missed the team's past 10 games due to the ailment. Falk will replace Kurtis Foster, who will be a healthy scratch, in the lineup. Mar 29
Chay Genoway ActiveChay Genoway has been called up by the Minnesota Wild. Genoway has seven goals and 32 points in 68 games with the Houston Aeros this season. He is expected to make his NHL debut on Saturday. Apr 7
Steven Kampfer SidelinedSteven Kampfer's previously undisclosed injury is related to his knee. Kampfer is week-to-week, according to Wild coach Mike Yeo. He'll probably miss the remainder of the regular season and might even be sidelined for AHL Houston's playoff run. Apr 2
Nate Prosser SuspendedNate Prosser has been given a one-game suspended for headbutting. Prosser will miss Minnesota's final game of the season and given that they won't make the playoffs, he will not return until 2012-13. He had 12 points and 57 penalty minutes in 51 games this season. Apr 6
Kris Fredheim ActiveKris Fredheim has been summoned by the Minnesota Wild. Fredheim has three goals and 12 points in 69 games with the Houston Aeros this season. He also has two penalty minutes in two contests with the Wild. Apr 7
Mike Lundin SidelinedMike Lundin will miss the rest of the 2011-12 season after he underwent successful surgery for a sports hernia last week. He's expected to be fully recovered in two-to-three months. In 17 games with the Wild this year, Lundin registered two assists, a minus-1 rating and 35 blocked shots, while averaging 20:12 of ice time per contest. Mar 21
| G | 1 | Josh Harding ActiveJosh Harding will be in goal for Minnesota Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Niklas Backstrom has played three of the team's past four games and Harding's last start came in a 5-4 shootout win over the Hawks on Apr. 1. The 27-year-old netminder is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, so it might be his final game with the Wild. Apr 5 |
Niklas Backstrom I.L.As expected, Niklas Backstrom has undergone ankle surgery. Backstrom has been battling through the injury since mid-December. He had a 19-18-7 record, 2.43 GAA, and .919 save percentage in 46 games this season. Apr 19
