David Bote played the role of hero on Sunday, blasting a pinch-hit, walk-off grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning, propelling the Cubs to a 4-3 victory over the Nationals.
The Cubs' offense had been dominated by Max Scherzer all night and didn't have so much as a scoring threat through the first eight innings. That all changed in the ninth though after Jason Heyward reached on a one-out single, then Albert Almora and Willson Contreras were each hit by pitches. That set the stage for Bote, who was down to his final strike, to club the ultimate walk-off grand slam. He has been mighty impressive in his limited action with the Cubs, slashing .329/.418/.539 with three homers and 18 RBI. Aug 12 - 11:33 PM
