Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that while Roy Oswalt prefers to pitch close to his Mississippi home, he'll be more flexible once his kids are out of school for the summer.
Morosi also notes that Oswalt's priority is pitching for a winning club, which is no surprise. The veteran right-hander has reportedly been throwing bullpen sessions every other day in order to keep his arm in shape and figures to hook on with a contender around the All-Star break.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak disputed a report that the club has ''reached out'' to free agent Roy Oswalt.
Mozeliak insists the emergence of Lance Lynn as a starter has decreased the need to seek outside options, and that he is ''increasingly confident'' in what it sees from top prospect Shelby Miller. "I think when you look at our club and how things are going, there is no reason we're going to need to go outside (the organization) at this point. When you couple that with positives at Memphis, if we have emergencies, I think we can deal with it." The Rangers are Oswalt's other preferred team.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox and Cardinals are "again reaching out" to free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.
According to Rosenthal, Oswalt has been throwing bullpen sessions every other day in order to keep his arm in shape. He fully intends on pitching for someone this season, and it sounds like Boston and St. Louis are still interested in him. The Red Sox have an obvious need in their rotation, while the Cardinals could need him if they prefer to move Lance Lynn back to the bullpen.

Angels GM Jerry Dipoto told reporters Saturday that his club is not in pursuit of Roy Oswalt.
"I can't qualify for everything you hear," Dipoto said. "But I can say that we're quite happy with the way our starting pitchers have thrown this spring and the way they've developed." Garret Richards appears likely to open the season as the Angels' fifth starter, and Jerome Williams will be an option for that role as well once his hamstring strain heals.

Ryan Howard
D.L.
Ryan Howard (Achilles) took batting practice Monday for the first time since February.
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. classified the news as "progress." Howard was recently given clearance to ramp up baseball activities at the team's spring training complex in Clearwater, Florida. It's not clear when he'll go out on a minor league rehab assignment, but a return in late May or early June is possible provided there are no setbacks.

Jim Thome
D.L.
Jim Thome (back) will not return from the disabled list when he's eligible Monday.
Thome landed on the disabled list late last month due to a lower back strain. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Friday that he has begun taking some dry swings, but he'll need to increase baseball activities before rejoining the team. It's not clear if he'll need a brief rehab stint.

Chase Utley
D.L.
Chase Utley (knee) has yet to participate in fielding practice since rejoining the Phillies last Saturday.
Utley said Saturday when he was back with the team that "over the next week or so I'll be on the field trying to get more ground balls and making some progressions in that area and just trying to get my feet under me as a far as a baseball standpoint goes." Yet, despite not doing any fielding as anticipated, general manager Ruben Amaro said there's no cause for alarm. Utley has been taking batting practice, but he's obviously going to need to do some fielding before he gets closer to a return.

Phillies placed OF-1B Laynce Nix on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 10, with a strained left calf.
Nix aggravated his calf injury Wednesday after a pinch-hit single and will be out of commission for at least a couple weeks. He'll be missed, as he was off to a nice start with a .326 average and two homers off the bench for the struggling Phils.

An MRI taken Wednesday morning on Vance Worley's right elbow showed no structural damage.
Worley has been diagnosed merely with elbow inflammation and should be ready to return to the Phillies' starting rotation soon after he's eligible for activation from the 15-day disabled list. The 24-year-old right-hander has registered a fantastic 3.07 ERA and 45/15 K/BB ratio through 44 innings this season.

Phillies placed RHP Michael Stutes on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 22, with right shoulder inflammation.
Stutes dealt with shoulder soreness during spring training and while he claims this isn't as severe, his 6.35 ERA over six appearances suggests it was affecting his performance. The Phils will have to hope his symptoms improve with extended rest.

David Herndon
D.L.
Phillies placed RHP David Herndon on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor pronator strain in his right elbow.
He'll be shut down for three weeks but is not a candidate for surgery right now. Herndon gave up two runs in two innings during his most recent appearance Sunday and owns a 4.70 ERA and 8/1 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings this season. The Phillies will make a corresponding roster move Tuesday.

Phillies transferred RHP Justin De Fratus from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
It's a procedural move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, as De Fratus has been out all year with a flexor pronator strain in his right elbow and isn't expected back until mid-June, at the earliest.
