2012: Minor League Contract

Recent News
Joel Pineiro is going on the disabled list with Triple-A Norfolk due to a sore right shoulder.
Pineiro signed a minor league deal with the O's last month and had a 3.65 ERA over his first two starts with the Tides. It was a worthwhile gamble, but he can't be relied on at this point.

Joel Pineiro tossed six innings of one-run ball Thursday in his first start with Triple-A Norfolk.
Pineiro, who recently signed a minor league deal with Baltimore, allowed three hits while striking out five and walking none. He threw 55 out of 75 pitches for strikes. It's not clear how many more starts he'll make in the minors, but the Orioles currently envision the veteran right-hander as a long-man out of the bullpen.

Joel Pineiro threw five innings Thursday in an extended spring training game.
Pinero, who signed a minor league deal with the O's earlier this month, is now expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk. Coming off a terrible 5.13 ERA with the Angels last year, the veteran right-hander will function as rotation depth.

Orioles signed RHP Joel Pineiro to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
Pineiro failed to crack the Phillies' Opening Day roster this spring after agreeing to a minor league deal in mid-January. The right-hander should have a little more luck in Baltimore, where the pitching depth is ever-shaky.

Taylor Teagarden
D.L.
Taylor Teagarden has resumed a stabilization program for his back in extended spring training.
Teagarden has had three epidural injections for a back strain, and it will be a while before he'll rejoin the Orioles. He's not eligible for activated until early June, but it's doubtful he'll be ready then, anyway.

Brian Roberts
D.L.
Mel Antonen of Sirius-XM Radio reports that Brian Roberts (concussion) is "making good progress" and will travel with the Orioles to Kansas City for their series starting Wednesday.
Antonen cautions, though, that there's still no timetable for Roberts' return. The 34-year-old has made multiple road trips already this season, so we're not sure how much progress he's really made, but at least we haven't heard about any setbacks recently. At this point, with the O's and Robert Andino playing well, Roberts is no safe bet to be a starter whenever he does make it back.

D.L.
Mark Reynolds is headed to the Orioles' complex in Sarasota, Florida on Tuesday to rehab his strained left oblique.
Reynolds was placed on the disabled list over the weekend after injuring his oblique during batting practice on Friday. It's possible he'll be ready to return when he's first eligible, though oblique injuries can linger. The free swinger is hitting just .191/.324/.337 with two homers and 36 strikeouts in 108 plate appearances this year.

Nolan Reimold
D.L.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Nolan Reimold receiving a second epidural injection for his neck is likely at this point.
"Every day, you are hoping he takes that step," Showalter said. "I'd be less than forthcoming if I didn't think that the possibility of a second injection isn't a probability." Reimold was put on an anti-inflammatory steroid medication and given the first injection on May 11, but he's still dealing with some tingling in his left thumb and discomfort in the left forearm/shoulder area. At this point, Reimold is unlikely to make it back before June.

Endy Chavez
D.L.
Orioles placed Endy Chavez on the 15-day disabled list with a sore intercostal muscle.
The Orioles are calling up Tommy Hunter to start Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader in place of Jason Hammel. Since Hunter hasn't been down for 10 days, he can only replace an injured player. Chavez, who suffered the injury Tuesday, will hit the shelf to make that happen. Chavez is batting just .133/.175/.167 this year.

Zach Britton (shoulder) will throw around 80 pitches on Monday during an extended spring training start.

Matt Lindstrom was diagnosed Tuesday with a partial tear of the rear ligament in his right middle finger.
Lindstrom told reporters Monday that the injury was a sprain, but it's a bit more serious than that. The right-handed reliever was placed on the disabled list last week and could be on it for well over a month.
