John Mallinger has been on a bit of a dry spell of late, but a third-place tie in 2009 at THE PLAYERS gives some reason for optimism.
Mallinger's high finish was sandwiched in between missed cuts, so while a good week can be found, consistency cannot. He has brought home seven cuts in 12 tries, but is coming off a withdrawl at the Valero Texas Open and a missed cut in New Orleans.

John Mallinger posted a 1-under-par 35-36=71 in his opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
No explanation was ever provided for his mysterious withdrawal after he teed off on his tenth hole of last week's stop in San Antonio. At TPC Louisiana today, he split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 14 greens but managed only four birdies, just enough to finish under par. Two of his birdies disappeared from beyond 11 feet, but his longest conversion of the day was a par save of 13'4" at the third hole.

John Mallinger is listed in the published field of next week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Still no word why he withdrew the middle of his opening round at TPC San Antonio yesterday. His co-runner-up at the Humana Challenge remains valued at three-quarters of his season's earnings of $553,300. Mallinger entered this week ranked 48th in FedExCup Points.

Mallinger yanked his tee ball on the par-4 10th hole into the brush well left of the fairway, and then called it quits. He went out in 4-over-par 40 and had just birdied the par-4 ninth with a roll of 15'9". If an explanation is released, we will relay it to you.
