Jeff Quinney lost in a 3-for-2 playoff at the four-spotter for the Farmers Insurance Open at El Camino Country Club in Oceanside, Calif.
Quinney shot a 5-under-par 33-34=67 on Monday to earn a spot in this morning's playoff. He was eliminated by former PGA TOUR member Bio Kim (33-34=67) and Cody Slover (35-32=67). Matthew Giles (32-34=66) and Paul Imondi (34-32=66) shared medalist honors. Quinney will have to focus on next week's Waste Management Phoenix Open where he was granted a sponsor exemption. Notables that failed to qualify for the Farmers include Jason Gore (69), Troy Merritt (69), Leif Olson (69), Paul Stankowski (70), Jon Mills (70), Clark Dennis (70), Brian Vranesh (70), Lee Janzen (71), Bob May (71), Alex Aragon (71), Shane Bertsch (72), Esteban Toledo (72), Jerod Turner (72), Todd Demsey (72), Ted Purdy (73), Steve Allan (73), Brad Adamonis (73), Jason Allred (73), Chris Smith (74), Parker McLachlin (74), Joseph Bramlett (74), D.J. Jeff Quinney was added to the published field of this week's Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Quinney began the week as the fifth alternate. He gained entry when Michael Allen withdrew. Mired with conditional status this year on the PGA TOUR where he's currently 201st in earnings, Quinney has been forced to juggle his schedule with seven appearances on the Nationwide Tour. He's played in the last four Timberlakes with a career-best T21 in 2007. Wed, Sep 28, 2011 03:41:00 PM
Eighteen-hole co-leader Jeff Quinney pieced together an even-par 33-37=70 in his second round of the Wyndham Championship, reaching the midpoint in 7-under 133, five strokes back of the 36-hole lead.
Quinney hit 15 greens for the second consecutive round, but required six more putts (31) today. He circled three birdies, but gave all three strokes back at the par-4 11th due to a triple bogey after he rinsed his tee ball and didn't reach the green until his fifth stroke. Jeff Quinney crafted a 7-under-par 31-32=63 in his opening round of the Wyndham Championship, lowest among the morning wave.
Quinney has had a rough time trying to scratch together a worthwhile season on conditional status. This is just his eleventh start of the year. He's cashed just five times, and his only top 40 was a T13 at the Mayakoba, so today's score qualifies as a surprise. He hit 15 grees and needed only 25 putts to stake the clubhouse lead. While four of his eight birdies disappeared from 11-17 feet, he kept the round from getting away from him with a 21-footer for bogey at the 18th (his ninth). Quinney arrived in Greensboro ranked 215th in FedExCup points. Thu, Aug 18, 2011 01:33:00 PM
