Crystal Palace could be left with just one senior goalkeeper until April following the news that Julian Speroni is set for an extended period on the sidelines.
The veteran stopper suffered a knee injury in training on the eve of the Newcastle game and subsequent tests reveal that he could be out for around 8 weeks. "He twisted his knee in five-a-side. We didn’t think it was going to be that problematic, but overnight it’s swollen." His late withdrawal left Roy Hodgson with just Wayne Hennessey while 20-year-old Dion Henry provided back-up on the Eagles bench. News of the Speroni injury follows quickly on the heels of Wilfried Zaha, who suffered a similar fate, although an initial prognosis suggests a return within 6 weeks. Palace travel to Everton on Saturday and the Eagles could be without up-to nine first-team players for a game they can ill-afford top lose. Sitting just three-points above the drop zone, Hodgson’s men face Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea in the three following matches. Feb 8 - 5:06 AM
