Liverpool had to cope with an injury to Mo Salah in the first half and Real Madrid eventually found their scoring touch in the second half, scoring three times to win their third consecutive Champions League Final, 3-1.
Jurgen Klopp needed a heroic performance from his players in order to beat the favored Spanish side, and that is what he got in the opening half-hour of the match, as the Reds looked evenly matched with Real. But then, the critical moment happened. Mo Salah had to exit the game after dislocating his shoulder. His loss took the wind out of Liverpool's sails and Real would finally open the scoring shortly after the second half began, as Loris Karius made a mess by having a toss that was meant to begin a counter attack hit the leg of Karim Benzema and the ball found its way into the net. There was a moment of hope when Sadio Mane equalized a few minutes later but Real had a big weapon on their bench in the form of Gareth Bale and the ex-Spur would come in to score twice, once via a dazzling overhead kick, the second from 30 yards out that Karius should have easily collected, but it slipped from his grasp and found the net.
