Derek Dorsett will not return to Vancouver's active roster due to health reasons and risks associated with playing, according to GM Jim Benning.

Dorsett has been advised by doctors to stop playing hockey after it was revealed that he has a cervical disc herniation adjacent and separate to his previous fusion. "I'm devastated by the news. It will take a long time for this to truly sink in," said Dorsett. "As hard as it was to hear, Dr. Watkins' diagnosis is definitive. There is no grey area, and it gives me clarity to move forward. I have a healthy young family and a long life of opportunities ahead of me. Hockey taught me a lot and it will help me be successful in whatever I choose to do in the future." We wish him the best in whatever he decides to do next.

Alex Ovechkin will play Wednesday night against Toronto.

Ovechkin will have to sit out Washington's game after the break on Feb. 1 against Calgary for deciding not to attend the All-Star Game this weekend. It's not surprising that he wants to play on Wednesday, as Washington has gone six games without a win and he probably wants to end that skid before the break.

Michael Ferland has an upper-body injury and won't return to Tuesday's game.

Ferland did not play on Sunday because of an upper-body injury and that issue may have re-appeared. We hope to get an update post-game.
Jan 22 - 11:00 PM

Darcy Kuemper allowed two goals on 27 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Kuemper should have done better on Bobby Ryan's goal but he didn't have much of a chance when Ryan Dzingel beat him with one through a few bodies. Regardless, Kuemper has gone 6-0-1 in his last seven games, improving his record to 11-11-4 with a 2.63 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage. It's incredible to see the Coyotes play so well considering they have five or six big pieces missing from the lineup.

Ryan Dzingel scored a goal and assisted on another in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes.

Dzingel started off his night with a secondary assist on Bobby Ryan's goal that Darcy Kuemper should have likely done before firing off a quick shot through a maze of bodies for his goal. It's Dzingel's 13th point in his last 11 games, bringing him to 20 goals and 38 points in 48 games this season. It will be interesting to see if the Senators can get the pending UFA signed to an extension or if he'll be used as a trade chip towards the deadline.
Jan 22 - 10:20 PM

Alexander Ovechkin scored three goals and added an assist in Tuesday's 7-6 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Ovechkin started off his night by burying a a loose puck by the side of the goal before doing a great job at using Nicklas Backstrom and a Shark as a screen for his second. The Russian winger then capped off his hat trick with a quick shot from the left circle. It's his 23rd hat trick of his career, moving him into a tie with Jari Kurri for the 10th most in the NHL. It was also Ovechkin's first three-goal game against the Sharks, making them his 15th different victim that he has accomplished that against. The 33-year-old is up to a league-leading 36 goals, with 56 points in 49 games this season.
Jan 22 - 9:50 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson won't return to Tuesday's game because of a lower-body injury.

Ekman-Larsson sustained the injury during the second period. He left the match after logging 10:15 of ice time. Consider him day-to-day for now. The Coyotes play again on Wednesday, but will be off until Feb. 2 afterward for the break.
Jan 22 - 9:19 PM

Robin Lehner will be in goal for Tuesday's game against Chicago.

Lehner is coming off a 19-save shutout win over Anaheim on Sunday. He has been quite the story this season, while registering a mark of 15-7-3 with a 2.02 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.
Jan 22 - 8:00 PM

Erik Karlsson (lower body) went back to San Jose for some tests.

Karlsson, who won't play Tuesday night, will be assessed and then a determination will probably be made to see if he can play in the All-Star Game. He would like to participate if he can. Tuesday will be the third straight game Karlsson will miss due to a lower-body injury.
Jan 22 - 6:11 PM

Martin Jones will start Tuesday night against Washington.

Jones was pulled on Monday after he surrendered five goals on 21 shots to Florida, but he will get a chance to get back on track prior to San Jose's break. He has a 22-10-4 record with a 2.89 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.
Jan 22 - 6:06 PM

Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said contract talks with Auston Matthews have been productive.

"With Auston, we continue to have very healthy dialogue with (his agents) Judd Moldaver and Jeff Jackson," Dubas said Tuesday. Matthews will be a restricted free agent after the 2018-19 season when his entry-level contract expires. Signing him and Mitch Marner are Toronto's top priorities.
Jan 22 - 5:05 PM

Micheal Ferland (upper body) is expected to be in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Calgary.

Ferland was a late scratch on Sunday because of an upper-body injury, but he skated Tuesday morning and is projected to play against his former team. It appears to be safe to include him in your lineup.
