Browns CB Denzel Ward (hip) returned to practice on Thursday.

Ward exited Week 9 with a hip injury but his presence at Thursday's practice suggests he's already on the mend. If he suits up for Sunday's game with Atlanta, it would be a downgrade for Julio Jones.

Tom Brady completed 30-of-46 passes for 348 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Patriots' 37-31, overtime AFC Championship Game victory over the Chiefs.

Jan 20 - 10:15 PM

Alvin Kamara rushed eight times for 15 yards and hauled in a team-high 11 catches for 96 yards in the Saints' NFC Championship loss to the Rams.

Kamara easily led the team in catches and targets, and he dominated the first drive of the third quarter with four catches and another target at the two. The passing game usage is not a surprise after the versatile runner posted his second 81-catch season in a row in 2018, turning that work into 709 yards and four scores. That passing usage stuck around despite a bigger role in the rushing game -- 194/883/14 in just 15 games -- even after Mark Ingram returned from suspension. With Ingram headed to free agency, the workhorse role Kamara occupied the first four weeks could be the norm next season. He will be in the top-five pick conversation in fantasy drafts this summer.
Jan 20 - 7:30 PM

Drew Brees completed 26-of-40 attempts for 249 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the Saints' NFC Championship loss to the Rams.

Brees did not have a bad game, but the offense struggled to get much going after the first quarter. Even his long completion to Ted Ginn probably should have at least been batted down. That said, there was not much he could do about his interception in overtime. Brees was hit while throwing, and the pass fluttered in the air and into the arms of a defender. Especially since the Saints were a terrible no-call away from winning the game in regulation, it was a tough end to an MVP-caliber season from the just-turned-40-year-old. Even with a slow finish to the year, Brees managed 3,992 yards, 32 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, good enough for a QB8 finish. That is around where he should be drafted in 2019, the final year of his current deal.
Jan 20 - 7:29 PM

Brandin Cooks hauled in all seven of his targets for 107 yards in the Rams' NFC Championship win over the Saints.

Cooks worked his former team for 114 yards and a touchdown in his first matchup with them back in Week 9, and he was just as dangerous in this one. He set up the Rams' first touchdown with a third-down conversion followed by a 36-yard catch on the next play in the second quarter, and he caught three passes on a touchdown drive in the third. He was mostly quiet from that point on, but it was a big game in a big spot for the first-year Ram.
Jan 20 - 6:54 PM

Todd Gurley rushed four times for 10 yards and a touchdown and caught 1-of-3 targets for three yards in the Rams' NFC Championship win over the Saints.

Gurley really struggled at the start of this game, dropping two passes including one which resulted in an interception, and was mostly left on the sidelines in the second half. He did cap a two-minute drive with a six-yard touchdown run at the end of the first half, but that was easily his biggest contribution of the day. Seemingly still struggling with his knee injury, Gurley will have two weeks to get ready for the Super Bowl.
Jan 20 - 6:50 PM

Jared Goff completed 25-of-40 attempts for 297 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Rams' NFC Championship, overtime win over the Saints.

Things did not start out well for Goff on Sunday. His second pass bounced off Todd Gurley's hands for an interception, and the Rams were staring at a 13-0 deficit at the end of the first. A successful fake punt seemed to get the offense moving, and Goff set up their first touchdown with a great bucket throw to Brandin Cooks with less than a minute left in the first half. Following an awful no call on a clear pass interference and some questionable decisions from the Saints, Goff got the ball down three with 1:41 left in the fourth, and he marched the offense down the field to force overtime. He did not have as much to do following a Drew Brees interception in the extra period, but he managed to find Tyler Higbee more to set up the game-winning, 57-yard field goal. The Rams certainly got lucky with that missed call, but Goff made some great throws to bring back a game which could have got out of hand early. Now he will have to show he can play just as well on the biggest stage.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports coach Jason Garrett is expected to be "more involved" with offensive play-calling next season.

Dallas' assistant coaching positions will continue to live in perpetual motion this offseason as ex-Cowboys QB Jon Kitna will reportedly be brought on as the team's QB coach, likely bumping Kellen Moore to OC. Garrett being involved in play-calling would still be an odd juxtaposition since that's the same role he "gave up" to Bill Callahan back in 2013. Scott Linehan had formerly been the team's play-caller from 2014 on. After all of the dust and smoke settles, the Cowboys are expected to have the same offensive blueprint as they did in the latter half of 2018.
Jan 20 - 1:54 PM

Saints declared TE Benjamin Watson, WR Keith Kirkwood, DT Tyrunn Walker, OL Will Clapp, LB Manti Te'o, OL Derek Newton, and RB Dwayne Washington inactive for the Conference Championship against the Rams.

TE Dan Arnold is active in place of Watson after being healthy-scratched in the Divisional Round. The Saints are also expected to utilize Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn, and rookie Tre'Quan Smith in three-wide sets without usual slot wideout Kirkwood available on Sunday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms Cowboys QBs coach Kellen Moore is a "leading candidate" to replace Scott Linehan as the team's offensive coordinator.

TEs coach Doug Nussmeier and Georgia OC James Coley are also in the running, though Moore appears to be the favorite to succeed Linehan as OC. It may seem like a leap of faith for Dallas to entrust its offense in the hands of a 30-year-old with only one year of coaching experience, but in reality Moore's role shouldn't change much as he'll likely cede play-calling duties to head coach Jason Garrett. Assuming he's promoted, Moore's old post as QBs coach will likely be filled by former NFL journeyman Jon Kitna.
Jan 20 - 1:22 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are expected to extend Patrick Mahomes' contract after next season.

That's the earliest the Chiefs can offer an extension. The 23-year-old Texas Tech alum has taken the league by storm, throwing for over 5,000 yards this year while becoming just the third player in NFL history to reach 50 touchdown passes in a single season. There's not much Mahomes can't do on a football field and it wouldn't be surprising if he became the league's first $200 million player. The likely NFL MVP can lead Kansas City to its Super Bowl appearance in 49 years with a win over New England in Sunday's AFC title game.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, there is a "strong possibility" Rob Gronkowski will retire this offseason.

Gronkowski nearly called it quits last offseason before returning for a ninth season in Foxboro. Clearly diminished by years of injuries, the 29-year-old hasn't been the same player in 2018 and is apparently eyeing a post-football career as a movie star in Hollywood. The WWE also remains a possibility for Gronk, though according to Rapoport, he's much more likely to pursue acting. Arguably the greatest tight end ever during his prime, Sunday's AFC title match in Kansas City could very well be Gronk's final game in the NFL.
