George Edwards will not return as the Vikings' defensive coordinator.

It's a surprise in that Edwards presided over one of the NFL's top defenses and generated some head-coaching interest early in the search phase. Mike Zimmer is a defensive-minded coach, so perhaps the two had too many disagreements. The Vikings' defense didn't show up in the NFC Championship game, getting worked over by Nick Foles for 352 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-7 blowout.

The Raiders and LT Donald Penn have agreed to a restructured contract.

The Raiders were looking to move some money around on Penn's deal, and by doing so, Penn gets more guaranteed money over the remaining two years of the contract. Oakland might be doing this with Penn in order to free some money up for holdout DE Khalil Mack, but there's been no movement there.

Coach Vance Joseph announced sophomore Chad Kelly is the Broncos' new No. 2 quarterback.

Kelly will be second in the game this week after Case Keenum. Paxton Lynch has been demoted to third string, and Joseph admitted the former first-rounder "has potential, but has to start performing." Lynch has been pretty dreadful ever since entering the league, and Kelly easily leapfrogged him after a single preseason outing over the weekend. Kelly went 14-of-21 for 177 yards, two scores, and a pick against the Vikings' threes. Lynch may no longer be on "scholarship" in Denver and isn't a lock to make the team's final 53-man roster.

Cardinals QB Josh Rosen will work with the first-team offense in Friday's preseason game versus the Saints.

Sam Bradford is expected to play more, but Cards coach Steve Wilks wants to see the No. 10 overall pick work with the first unit, too. Rosen struggled behind (and with) the second-team offensive line Saturday, completing just 6-of-13 passes for 41 yards and no touchdowns. Despite his final passing line, his adamant gunslinger tendencies were impressive. Larry Fitzgerald, Brice Butler, Chad Williams, and rookie RB Chase Edmonds should log a few additional snaps as long as Rosen stays on the field.

Giants HC Pat Shurmur said Saquon Barkley has a "mild strain."

"We’ll be smart with him as we move along here," Shurmur continued. Barkley kept his leg wrapped with ice throughout practice. It sounds like he'll be fine, but the Giants would be wise to limit his preseason reps for the foreseeable future. It's a situation to watch in the coming weeks.

Vikings OT Rashod Hill was carted off the practice field Monday.

Hill fell to one knee and was slow to get up prior to getting carted off. Brian O'Neill replaced him at left tackle for the remainder of practice. The hits keep coming for the Vikes, who are still waiting on C Pat Elflein (shoulder, active/PUP) to recover. The club also already lost C Nick Easton (neck) for the year. RG Mike Remmers returned Monday, but it remains to be seen how Minnesota will shuffle their line if Hill is out for an extended period.

Bears agreed to terms with first-round rookie LB Roquan Smith.

Following a lengthy holdout, the Bears finally came to terms with the No. 8 overall pick on a four-year deal. It includes the allotted $18 million guaranteed by the CBA and $11 million in additional bonuses. Smith, the last of the first-rounders to sign for this upcoming season, had been holding out over contract language regarding revocation of guaranteed money if he were suspended for an on-field rules violation. An explosive off-ball linebacker who plays with more power than his size suggests, Smith missed just one tackle in all of 2017 and has immense value on passing downs. His presence alone immediately elevates the Bears' defense.

Delicia Cordon, the ex-girlfriend of LeSean McCoy, filed a personal injury lawsuit against him Monday.

The lawsuit also includes McCoy's friend, former Pitt football player Tamarcus Porter. Cordon released a statement last month regarding her accusations that McCoy arranged a home invasion in which she was assaulted. McCoy has already reported and participated in camp, but the Milton Police Department still considers the case an "open and active investigation." He has not been charged with anything, but the NFL could still place him on the Commissioner Exempt List.

Aaron Rodgers said he thinks he'll play in Thursday's preseason game versus the Steelers.

He also said he's less likely to play in Green Bay's final two preseason games. Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer undoubtedly need the extra reps prior to the season, so Rodgers is only expected to play one or two possessions. If Randall Cobb (ankle) is unavailable again, it will be interesting to see if the Packers start the game with Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison, and DeAngelo Yancey in 3-WR sets, much like the club did in their first preseason game.

49ers signed RB Alfred Morris.

The 49ers have a banged up running back room, and few know coach Kyle Shanahan's system better than Morris. Morris' history with Shanahan could give him an outside shot at cracking the 53-man roster, but it is probably unlikely if everyone gets back to 100 percent health before cut-down day.

Josh Allen was promoted to the second-team offense in Monday's practice.

Allen worked "exclusively" with the second team after receiving his first second-team rep of the summer on Sunday. Reporter Joe Buscaglia believes Allen could get some first-team reps as early as Tuesday. After a mixed preseason debut last week, Allen will face off with the Browns this Friday.

The Chicago Tribune reports second-round WR Anthony Miller is locking down slot duties in camp.

Per reporter Rich Campbell, Miller has been as advertised, displaying route-running chops, strong hands and competitiveness at the catch point, all the while "overflowing with flair and confidence." Miller's hype started up in rookie OTAs and has continued unabated since. A lot will depend on Mitchell Trubisky's sophomore development, but Miller has a real chance at being a re-draft league factor.
