Arizona Sports' Mike Jurecki reports the Cardinals will release Adrian Peterson this offseason.

Acquired from the Saints in October, Peterson offered a jolt to the Cardinals' running game in the absence of David Johnson, but Peterson landed on I.R. after suffering a neck injury in Week 12. Peterson is due $3.5 million in 2018 but isn't going to get it from Arizona. The Cardinals will clear over $2.8 million against the cap by cutting Peterson, who turns 33 in March.

Cowboys acquired WR Amari Cooper from the Raiders in exchange for a first-round pick.

The 3-4 Cowboys — who have featured an unwatchable passing offense this season — are going for it in the wide-open NFC East while the 1-5 Raiders are accelerating their tank in year one of coach Jon Gruden's 10-year, $100 million contract. One of the most inscrutable players in football, Cooper has baffled the past two seasons after beginning his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns, but he is still only 24 with loads of talent. There are better offenses he could have joined in terms of goosing his production, but he will be the centerpiece of the Cowboys' previously receiver-desperate attack. Cooper is under team control through 2019.

Speaking Monday, Cardinals coach Steve Wilks said trading Patrick Peterson is "out of the question."

Wilks said Peterson has not formally requested a trade, and that the two were meeting later on Monday. Either way, Wilks issued a flat denial that it was a possibility. 28-year-old Peterson is signed in Arizona through 2020. There will never be a better time to trade him than now. Despite their public posture, expect the Cardinals to at least entertain offers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Sony Michel (knee) has avoided structural damage and is week to week.

It is the best possible news, though we would still consider Michel on the wrong side of questionable for Week 8 against the Bills. The Patriots are not going to take any chances in a game they could win with their second-team. James White will be in the RB1 mix while perhaps Kenjon Barner or a free agent addition will rotate in behind.

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said he has decided on his Week 8 quarterback but is not ready to make a public announcement.

This should mean the Jags are making the switch to Cody Kessler, as you do not draw out the process if you're sticking with the usual starter. It's certainly time. The Blake Bortles era has run its course. Bortles has been worse than ever this year, giving the Jags little shot on offense.

Browns coach Hue Jackson does not plan to take over play-calling duties from OC Todd Haley.

"I never said I would take over the play-calling," Jackson said Monday after very much suggesting that on Sunday. "I said I needed to help. I have to be careful not to get too frustrated, too." Jackson is correct that his offense needs a shake up. The problems still have more to do with Baker Mayfield's surrounding talent than anything else. The 2-4-1 Browns are headed to Pittsburgh for Week 8.

NFL Network's Michael Giardi reports Rob Gronkowski (back) could be ready for next Monday's game against the Bills.

Per Giardi, Gronk missed Week 7 with "painful" back spasms that popped up on Friday, but it is believed to be a "short-term thing." Gronk, of course, has a history of back problems, so nothing can be taken for granted. The Pats won't push matters against the expansion-level Bills.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport confirms Keke Coutee's hamstring aggravation is "not considered serious," but that he's expected to miss Week 8.

It was Coutee who said he's probably going to miss the Texans' short-week matchup with the Dolphins. Coutee battled hamstring woes from early August through late September, so a minor aggravation is a bullet dodged for the Texans. Vyncint Smith will re-join DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller in three-receiver sets in the interim.

Josh Rosen (toe) was held out of Monday's practice.

Coach Steve Wilks has said Rosen won't miss any time, but his Week 8 is off on the wrong foot. The Cardinals do not have to issue an injury report until Wednesday. A "limited" session would have Rosen on track to suit up against the 49ers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Kenny Stills suffered a groin strain Week 7 against the Lions.

Stills suffered the injury on the final drive. Rapoport danced around a timetable, but he did suggest Stills has little chance to play Thursday against the Texans. With Albert Wilson (hip) also out, the Dolphins are down to Danny Amendola, Jakeem Grant, and disgruntled DeVante Parker at receiver.

Tom Brady said his "confidence" in Josh Gordon is "growing and growing and growing."

"I’m excited to see where we’re going," Brady added. Gordon had a few hiccups against the Bears, but he responded with a great, leaping catch on fourth down and a 55-yard catch-and-run to help set up a touchdown. He also played 95 percent of the snaps, besting the season-high of 81 percent he set the week before. The arrow is squarely pointing up for Gordon.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Le'Veon Bell did not report to the team on Monday morning.

Bell had been expected to return during the bye week, but Jason La Canfora reported Sunday it is "more likely" the running back returns to the team ahead of Week 9. It seems like no one except Bell really knows when he plans to report, and it remains possible he takes his holdout all the way through Week 10, after which he has to report to earn an accrued season and become a free agent. It appears as if James Conner will get at least one more game if not more of workhorse usage.
