Robert Williams (legs) will not play Thursday against the Knicks.

It's been a really rough start for Williams. He has overslept for events, he hurt his knee, he has an artery condition in both of his legs per MassLive.com, and Williams also reportedly has lost his wallet twice since he joined the team. Hopefully, his luck turns around soon.

The Kings are reportedly interested in acquiring Gorgui Dieng to help facilitate the Jimmy Butler deal.

The Timberwolves have been rather adamant about including Dieng and the three years and $48 million left on his contract in any Jimmy Butler deal, and the Kings have made it known to Minnesota and their suitors that they'd be happy to take on a few bloated contracts in exchange for a future first-rounder. Sacramento also is holding the expiring deals of Zach Randolph, Iman Shumpert and Kosta Koufos, so they're uniquely positioned to help facilitate a blockbuster trade involving Butler.

Coach Alvin Gentry said he expects to experiment with Anthony Davis, Julius Randle and Nikola Mirotic lineups in the preseason and training camp.

He said he wants to figure out how he can maximize all of his bigs. Gentry mentioned that he thinks all three of these guys can switch on defense, which is obviously the biggest potential pitfall if Niko and Julius have to play on the perimeter more on defense. With the Pelicans also saying they want to play even faster than their league-leading pace last year, there should be enough possessions to go around.

Hassan Whiteside said he's feeling "healthier" entering his age-29 season and that "all the pain is gone" from last year's injuries.

"Full contact. He looks good," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "And it's not by accident either. He put in that type of training during the summer. It's always great to see these kinds of results. He had a good day today. He's in shape. He's able to go through all the drills, the activity, the competition without having to sit out anything." Whiteside may still be limited to minutes in the mid-20s, but if pain-free, he'll be more effective while on the court.

Kawhi Leonard said it "felt amazing" to be able to go through 5-on-5 work at Tuesday's practice.

This was Leonard's first time participating in full-contact, 5-on-5 work since January, and he came out of the scrimmage without issue. "It felt amazing to just play, run up and down and compete," said Leonard. "They did a great job of letting us move along with the drills quickly, transition in drills. It was a great practice today. I enjoyed it. Coming back tonight to get some shots up, and I'm ready for Round 2." So far, so good.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (left hamstring) went through roughly 40-50 percent of Tuesday's practice.

It's the first practice of training camp, so this might just be the Nets' taking it easy on him after he tweaked his left adductor in August. As long as he can continue to ramp up his activities without experiencing a setback, we wouldn't be too worried about RHJ. He's a solid, late-round target.

Luke Walton said he's not ready to commit to who will start at point guard.

Walton added that Rajon Rondo did great in his first practice as a Laker, and if the season started tomorrow he would start No. 9 due to Lonzo Ball (knee) being unavailable, but that's not saying much. That starting point guard position will be an open one at camp, but this does have the potential to devolve into a value-killing, timeshare situation between Rondo and Ball.
Sep 25 - 3:31 PM

Lonzo Ball (knee) did not participate during the contact portions of Tuesday's practice.

Ball is still "a few" steps away from being cleared for 5-on-5 work following his July surgery, and while he'll go through the non-contact portions later on Tuesday, the Lakers don't want him participating in two-a-day activities at this point. It's a bit too early to be too worried about this knee issue, but if it lingers into the preseason, there will be cause for concern.
Sep 25 - 3:19 PM

David Fizdale said every starting position will be an open competition at training camp.

We'd expect Tim Hardaway Jr., Mario Hezonja and Enes Kanter to start, but as of right now, it's a bit of a mystery as to who will start at the PG and PF positions. Who starts at point guard will likely come down to Trey Burke vs. Frank Ntilikina, and the PF position will be fought between Kevin Knox and Noah Vonleh (with Kristaps Porzingis still on the mend), and we'll be watching these battles closely over the course of camp and the preseason.
Sep 25 - 3:08 PM

Pau Gasol said he's "down" with coming the bench in San Antonio this season.

Gasol wants to do whatever will help the team win, and it would make some sense to bring the 38-year-old off the bench in order to help keep his minutes in the lower-20s. If Gasol ends up running with the second unit, that would open the door for Jakob Poeltl to start, making him an even more intriguing late-round target on draft day. At this point in his career, Gasol isn't really worth drafting anywhere.
Sep 25 - 2:19 PM

Austin Rivers (neck spasms) sat out the contact portions of Tuesday's practice.

Rivers should be fine with a few days of rest, so we'd expect the Wizards to take it easy on him through the early days of camp. Rivers could step into a sort of sixth man role with the Wizards this season, but as long as John Wall and Bradley Beal are healthy, it'll be tough for him to see much more than 25 minutes a night. He's worth drafting in most settings.
Sep 25 - 2:13 PM

Coach James Borrego said Willy Hernangomez's ceiling is "high and wide" and he's capable of averaging a double-double this year.

"It's up to him to put pressure on me and our staff to play him the minutes to go get those double-doubles," Borrego said. The coach really talked up Hernangomez on Monday, saying he had a great spirit, he "changed his body" and that he extended his range to 3-point territory. If he can win the starting job, Hernangomez could be a valuable piece in fantasy in what should be an improved offense. He's worth a late-round flier to see if he can come through.
