Cole Powell scored his first E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award on Friday for the Visit New Hampshire 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Powell’s No. 3 Copps Buildall/Kubota Canada Chevrolet set a fast time of 31.860 seconds (119.548 mph), good enough to claim his first career NASCAR Pinty’s Series pole, and it comes for the inaugural event in the United States for the Pinty’s Series. The 25-year-old driver from Mount Brydges, Ontario, has four previous starts at the 1.058-mile oval, all coming the on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Powell currently sits 24 points back of championship leader L.P. Dumoulin, and looks to score a win Saturday to close the points gap.

Justin Bonsignore rolled into New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon and posted the fastest lap time in both practice sessions in advance of the inaugural NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Musket 250.

The fast time for Bonsignore was a 28.870 seconds (131.929 mph), which came in the morning practice round. He also paced the final 45-minute session of the day with a time of 28.883 seconds driving the No. 51 Phoenix Communications Inc. Chevrolet.

Derek Kraus (No. 1 Toyota) was at the top of the speed chart in the final practice leading to Saturday's NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Apple Barrel 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH.

He put up a 128.806 mph lap in the final practice. No. 40 Anthony Alfredo, No. 74 Brandon McReynolds, No. 17 Tyler Ankrum and No. 82 Spencer Davis are the rest of the top five and No. 17 Juan Manuel Gonzalez was the slowest of the 17 cars completing laps in this final session.

Ryan Newman is headed to Roush Fenway Racing in 2019, according to multiple sources.

A press conference has been scheduled by Roush Fenway for tomorrow and it is expected that will be the announcement. Last week, Newman said on Twitter that he would not return to Richard Childress Racing. Newman enters Richmond with back to back top-10s in the last two weeks.

Brad Keselowski posted the fastest single lap in final practice for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway with a speed of 120.224 mph.

Keselowski has one career pole at Richmond. He led the field to green in spring 2014. That great starting position contributed to his only Richmond win.

Paul Menard has not scored a top-10 on a short track in his last 15 attempts.

Menard’s last short track top-10 came in spring 2016 while he was driving for Richard Childress Racing. Since then, he has come close only three times with top-15s—the most recent of which was a pair of 13ths this spring at Martinsville and Bristol.

Timmy Hill has made nine previous starts on short tracks in the Cup series and has finished better than he started on seven of those occasions (77.8 percent of the time).

Hill’s last Richmond attempt came in spring 2017. In that race, he started 37th and improved to finish 34th at the checkers. He was running at the end, but seven laps off the pace.

Erik Jones needs to rebound this week at Richmond Raceway after finishing last in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

His odds of finishing in the top 10 this week are decent. In 10 previous starts on short tracks in the Cup series, he has three top-10s and has finished 17th or better seven times. His best result was a second at Bristol Motor Speedway last year. His best Richmond result was sixth in the 2017 Federated Auto Parts 400.

William Byron is still seeking his first top-10 on a short track in the Cup series in his fifth start.

Byron’s best short track finish to date came at Richmond Raceway this spring. He started the race ninth, completed all the laps, and finished 12th. That is the only time he has gone the full distance, however.
