Shane Greene (shoulder) will be activated off the disabled list on Friday.

Greene wound up spending the minimum time on the 10-day DL with a minor right shoulder strain. He will resume closer duties for the final weekend of the first half, with Joe Jimenez returning to a setup role. Greene could be trade bait for the rebuilding Tigers ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, so Jimenez is worth holding on to in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Blake Snell allowed just a single over five scoreless innings Tuesday to pick up his 20th victory in the Rays' 4-0 win over the Rangers.

Snell wasn't very efficient tonight, but that was fine; the Rangers have already mailed it in. Snell has allowed a total of seven runs while winning eight straight starts, and his ERA is all of the way down to 1.97. He's the first pitcher to 20 wins this year, and he's gotten there despite throwing just 169 innings to date.

Stephen Strasburg fanned 11 while holding the Marlins to two runs in six innings Tuesday.

Strasburg had a poor first start back from the DL last month, but he's given up a total of 10 runs and struck out 38 in 30 2/3 innings in his last five outings. He's 3-0 in that span and 9-7 with a 3.83 ERA overall. His only two truly bad outings this year came immediately upon returning from his DL stints.

Paul DeJong clubbed a two-run home run and added an RBI single Tuesday in the Cardinals' victory over the Braves.

Jose Martinez singled for the Cards' first hit with one out in the fourth inning and DeJong followed that with his second dinger in as many nights. He added some cushion with an RBI single in the eighth. DeJong now has 11 home runs and 43 RBI since the All-Star break even though he's hitting only .220.

Jameson Taillon dominated the Royals on Tuesday night, fanning a career-high 11 batters across seven shutout frames but taking a no-decision in the Pirates’ 2-1 extra-innings win.

Taillon and Eric Skoglund traded zeroes in this one before the Pirates finally broke through against the Royals’ bullpen. The Pittsburgh righty did need a little help in the seventh, as Pablo Reyes threw out a runner at home plate for an inning-ending double play. Taillon permitted just four hits and one walk on the night to go along with his 11 punchouts but was saddled with a no-decision after a blown save. He’s been terrific over the last several weeks and faced little resistance from an overmatched Royals offense on Tuesday night while lowering his season ERA to 3.24. Taillon faces the Cubs at Wrigley next.

Mookie Betts (side) is expected to DH on Wednesday against the Yankees.

Betts was unavailable Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium after exiting Sunday's series finale against the Mets due to discomfort in his left side, but it's nothing overly serious. The 25-year-old MVP candidate is batting .337/.431/.619 with 29 home runs, 72 RBI, 28 stolen bases, and 118 runs scored in 129 games this season.

Lorenzo Cain left Tuesday night's game against the Reds due to a sore intercostal muscle.

Cain initially tweaked his intercostal on a swing a few days ago, and it apparently stiffened up on him after four innings Tuesday. Keon Broxton took over in center field for the Brewers in the top of the fifth. It sounds like Cain will ultimately be fine, but any days missed are obviously hurtful at this point in the season.

Neil Walker slugged a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh inning of the Yankees' comeback victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Nathan Eovaldi held the Bombers in check for six innings, but Brandon Workman and Ryan Brasier coughed up the lead an inning later, with the latter serving up the longball to Walker. It was a no-doubter that reached the second deck in right field at Yankee Stadium. The home run was the first this month for Walker, who was making just his second start in over a week.
Sep 18 - 10:38 PM

Corey Kluber punched out 11 batters while allowing three runs over eight innings in the Indians' 5-3 victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.

The White Sox took Kluber deep twice in the sixth inning, but they were both solo shots. The ace was pitching on seven days' rest and certainly looked strong in this one as he recorded his sixth double-digit strikeout game of the season. Two of those outings have come against the White Sox. Kluber will face a stiffer test Sunday versus the Red Sox.
Sep 18 - 10:02 PM

Travis Shaw was removed from Tuesday night's game against the Reds due to a right knee contusion.

Shaw took a pitch off the knee in the bottom of the second inning and eventually got replaced in the Brewers' lineup by Hernan Perez. This is hopefully just a day-to-day situation for Shaw. He'll be reevaluated Wednesday.

Rockies manager Bud Black said Tuesday evening that Trevor Story's right ulnar collateral ligament is still intact.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic heard from sources Tuesday afternoon that Story had potential damage to the UCL in his right elbow, but Black says team doctors only found inflammation while adding that the "joint is fine" and "there is no structural damage." He expressed hope that Story might be able to return to action "in a few days." Great news all around. Garrett Hampson is starting at shortstop for the Rockies on Tuesday night against the Dodgers.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon announced Tuesday evening that Brandon Morrow (elbow) has been shut down for the remainder of the season.

Morrow has been sidelined since mid-July with a bone bruise in his right elbow, and he was never able to get over the hump in his rehab. Pedro Strop is also currently sidelined with a left hamstring strain, so the Cubs will have to deploy a closer-by-committee strategy for the remainder of the regular season and possibly into the playoffs. Morrow, who logged just 30 2/3 innings for the Cubs in 2018, is due a $9 million salary next year.
