Angels released C Curt Casali.

Casali asked for his release from the minor league deal he signed with the Angels on November 27, presumably after noticing the team signed Rene Rivera to a one-year, $2.8 million contract in January. Carlos Perez and Juan Graterol were probably also going to be above Casali on the Angels' organizational depth chart at catcher. The 29-year-old is back on the free agent market.

Ryan Braun (back) will be activated off the disabled list on Thursday.

Braun was placed on the disabled list on May 14, so he'll spend just the minimum amount of time on the disabled list. The veteran All-Star has not gotten off to a strong start this season, hitting .222/.268/.413 with five homers and four stolen bases over 37 games.
May 23 - 4:34 PM

Reds placed RHP Raisel Iglesias on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left bicep.

The good news is that it's his non-throwing arm, but the exact timetable for his return is unclear at the moment. Iglesias hasn't pitched since May 19 when he gave up two runs and blew a save against the Cubs. On the season, Iglesias owns a 2.08 ERA with seven saves along with 27 strikeouts over 21 2/3 innings in 20 appearances. Amir Garrett, David Hernandez, and Jared Hughes are among the possible fill-ins for fantasy owners.
May 23 - 4:19 PM

Gary Sanchez (calf) is not in the Yankees' lineup Wednesday.

Sanchez departed Tuesday's game with a calf cramp. He could be ready to go Friday after Thursday's off day. Austin Romine is catching Wednesday.
May 23 - 4:03 PM

Starling Marte (oblique) ran the bases on Wednesday.

Marte is easing back into baseball activities as he works his way back from a strained right oblique. Obviously, the bigger test will be when he's taking batting practice again, as he should be game-ready shortly after that. He's missed the last week of action.
May 23 - 3:27 PM

Wilson Ramos (hand) is out of the Rays' lineup Wednesday.

Ramos exited Tuesday's game after a foul tip caught his left hand. X-rays came back clean, but it's no surprise that he's sitting out this one. He's considered day-to-day. Jesus Sucre will catch Wednesday.
May 23 - 2:35 PM

Nelson Cruz (elbow) is expected to return to the Mariners' lineup Wednesday.

Cruz hasn't played since being hit on the left elbow by a pitch Saturday, but he's feeling better and manager Scott Servais indicated that the slugger probably could've played Tuesday, but "I wanted to give Nelson another day." Cruz has been banged up often this season, dealing with a sprained ankle and bruised foot in addition to the elbow malady.
May 23 - 1:28 PM

Marcell Ozuna has been scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday versus the Royals.

No reason has been given yet. Tyler O'Neill is now starting in left field and hitting cleanup against Kansas City right-hander Jake Junis.
May 23 - 12:43 PM

Juan Soto will bat second for the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres.

It's the highest lineup slot to date for Soto, who batted sixth on Monday and Tuesday. The 19-year-old top outfield prospect has three hits, a homer, three RBI, and three walks through his first nine plate appearances at the major league level.
May 23 - 12:39 PM

Nationals recalled RHP Erick Fedde from Triple-A Syracuse.

Fedde will make a spot start for the Nats on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres. He's registered a weak 4.35 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 42/13 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings (eight starts) this season at Triple-A, but the 25-year-old former first-round pick makes for a decent fantasy streamer versus a San Diego offense that ranks 29th in team OPS.
May 23 - 12:35 PM

Rays placed RHP Jake Faria on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Faria suffered the oblique strain in the the third inning of his start Tuesday night against the Red Sox and Rays manager Kevin Cash acknowledged after the game that the 24-year-old right-hander will be sidelined for a while. It could be something like 4-6 weeks. Faria has turned in some impressive outings this season, but he holds a poor 5.48 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 37/22 K/BB ratio in 47 2/3 overall innings. It's probably safe to drop him in standard redraft leagues.
May 23 - 12:27 PM

Astros placed OF Josh Reddick on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a leg infection.

This has been a lingering thing for Reddick, though he should be able to return from the DL when first eligible late next week. Jake Marisnick will replace him on the Astros' roster for now. Reddick, 31, has a .740 OPS with six homers and one stolen base in 42 games this year.
