Ichiro Suzuki may consider returning to Japan for the 2018 season, per his agent John Boggs.

Boggs told Barry Bloom of MLB.com that he had extensive conversations earlier this winter with the Mariners and Padres, but both clubs have since moved on. Other teams have asked Boggs to "check back" closer to spring training. Ichiro, a certain first-ballot Hall of Famer, has racked up 3,080 major league hits since arriving from the Orix Buffaloes in 2001. But he batted just .255/.318/.332 in 136 games with the Marlins last year at age 43. And he turned 44 in October.

Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports that the Astros are recalling J.D. Davis.

Davis has batted a ridiculous .415/.473/.654 over 130 at-bats since his demotion to Triple-A Fresno last month. With Evan Gattis' struggles, Davis could be given a long look in the Astros' designated hitter spot. He's worth scooping up in deeper fantasy leagues.

Clayton Kershaw (biceps) threw a bullpen session Sunday.

Kershaw will throw one more bullpen session before returning to game action. It's possible that game will be a rehab start, but he could also be thrust back into the Dodgers' rotation as soon as next weekend. Kershaw has been sidelined since May 1 with left biceps tendinitis.

Dodgers placed LHP Rich Hill on the 10-day disabled list with a left middle finger blister.

Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Hill will be sidelined for at least four weeks, as the team wants to give him plenty of rest in hopes that the blister will heal. Blisters have been an ongoing concern for Hill for years, of course, and he remains a very risky health bet moving forward. It's unclear at this point who will take his spot in the rotation.

Joe Musgrove (shoulder) will make his Pirates debut Friday against the Cardinals.

It had looked like it would be Wednesday, but manager Clint Hurdle officially announced Sunday that Friday will be Musgrove's debut with his new club. The right-hander has been out all season with a shoulder issue that cropped up in spring training but made it through four rehab starts with no issues, posting a 4.58 ERA and 17/2 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings. Musgrove should be picked up in deeper mixed leagues, although it might be a good idea to keep him on the bench for a start or two to see how he looks.

Pirates activated 2B Josh Harrison from the 10-day disabled list.

Harrison missed five weeks of action with a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand. He'll return to a .263/.328/.351 batting line and will go back to being the Pirates' everyday second baseman and leadoff hitter.

Nationals purchased the contract of OF Juan Soto from Double-A Harrisburg.

It's a bold move, as Soto will be the youngest player in the majors at 19 and has just 512 plate appearances as a pro, with nearly all of them coming in the lower minors. However, there's no doubting his talent, and he's posted a ridiculous .362/.462/.757 batting line with 14 home runs and 52 RBI across 39 games over his three stops this season. Soto is not in Sunday's lineup with the Dodgers throwing lefty Alex Wood and could be benched some against tougher southpaws, but he'll play most every day.
May 20 - 10:27 AM

Braves released 3B/OF Jose Bautista.

It's an experiment that just never worked out, as Bautista unsurprisingly struggled defensively at third base and didn't do nearly enough with the bat (.143/.250/.343) to make up for it. Johan Camargo will take over as the everyday third baseman for the Braves. This could be the end of the line for the 37-year-old Bautista, although Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said the veteran has a standing offer to join Triple-A Gwinnett if he's unable to catch on anywhere else.

James Paxton allowed just two earned runs, three hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in a complete-game victory against the Tigers on Saturday.

Paxton has gone the distance in two of his past three outings. He threw 83 of his 117 pitches for strikes to lower his ERA to 3.30. He has managed five straight quality starts while winning his past three decisions over the past nine outings. The southpaw hasn't endured a setback since losing his initial start of the season back on March 31 against the Indians. He'll look to stay hot at home Friday against the visiting Twins.
May 20 - 1:30 AM

Daniel Robertson connected for his first-career grand slam in Saturday's 5-3 road victory against the Angels.

Robertson, from nearby Upland, Calif., had a huge contingent of fans cheering for him in what has been a very successful homecoming to SoCal. The 24-year-old middle infielder is 5-for-10 with two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored in the first three games of the series. He'll look to stay hot against rookie RHP Shohei Ohtani in the series finale on Sunday.
May 20 - 12:59 AM

Devin Mesoraco went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Mesoraco was instrumental in the Mets' push to overcome a 4-2 deficit in the eighth inning. Stepping to the plate after Archie Bradley had surrendered a leadoff single to Jay Bruce to open the frame, the backstop proceeded to uncoil for a game-tying two-run shot. With their life thus renewed, Mesoraco's crew completed the comeback via a walkoff sacrifice fly by Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the ninth inning. Since coming over to New York in the trade that sent Matt Harvey to the Reds earlier this month, the catcher has already socked three home runs and driven in five runs through the first seven games he's played in his new uniform.

Rich Hill (blister) is expected to go on the 10-day disabled list.

Hill had a blister on his left pitching hand rip open Saturday -- Hill told reporters he felt it during his warmup pitches, and he threw just two pitches before exiting Saturday's contest against the Nationals. The southpaw, who has dealt with blister issues for years now, said this one is as bad as the blister in 2016 that cost him weeks at a time, even delaying his Dodgers debut after they acquired him from the A's at the waiver trade deadline that year. There exists no timetable at this point.
