Twins signed RHP Addison Reed to a two-year, $16.75 million contract.

The deal was reported on Saturday and is now official. Reed is expected to enter the season as a setup man for Fernando Rodney, although it's certainly conceivable that he could find himself in the closer role at some point. The 29-year-old reliever held a 2.84 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 76/15 K/BB ratio across 76 innings between the Mets and Red Sox in 2017.

Red Sox placed 3B Rafael Devers on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 16, with a left hamstring strain.

Devers just returned last week from the same injury but apparently aggravated the ailment. It's the third trip to the disabled list over the last five weeks for the young third baseman. How much time Devers misses this time around isn't known at this point. In the meantime, Eduardo Nunez should see the bulk of the starts at the hot corner.

Reds placed 1B Joey Votto on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 16, with a right lower leg contusion.

Votto has dealt with lingering soreness in the leg as a result of a hit by pitch back on August 4, causing him to miss some games and be pulled early in others. The Reds have decided to go ahead and DL the slugger and let him heal up. It's unclear at this point whether it might be longer than a minimum DL stay. Brandon Dixon should see regular starts at first base while Votto is out.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that it's "unlikely" Leonys Martin (illness) returns this season.

Martin is recovering from a life-threatening bacterial infection that affected multiple organs. While he's doing much better, he's got a long road of recovery ahead of him. Greg Allen has been handling center field with Martin on the shelf.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Edwin Encarnacion (hand, biceps) "should be back when his 10 days are over."

That would peg his return date as Tuesday. It doesn't appear that Encarnacion, who is dealing with a bruised right hand and strained left biceps, will need any rehab games before being activated. He's sporting a .229/.317/.461 batting line with 25 homers and 81 RBI this season.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Trevor Bauer's (leg) status for "the remainder of the regular season, and perhaps the postseason, could be in jeopardy."

The Indians haven't revealed a timetable for the right-hander after he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right fibula, but it's obviously going to be a while. More will obviously be known about Bauer's status in the coming weeks. He's put up a fantastic 2.22 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 214/56 K/BB ratio over 166 innings this season.

Welington Castillo (suspension) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Castillo is eligible to be reinstated from his PED suspension on August 23 and should be back at that time. The veteran catcher belted 20 home runs over just 96 games last season and six over his first 33 contests this season before he was suspended. Castillo should be added in two-catcher leagues where he's available.

CC Sabathia (knee) is expected to rejoin the Yankees' rotation next week when first eligible.

The Yankees haven't mapped out an exact date for Sabathia's return yet, but it sounds like he'll be back next weekend in Baltimore. "He’ll throw his side, but all indications point that it will be right around that 10-day mark," manager Aaron Boone said. "Hopefully we can slot him in however we decide, again with those off days coming and then we have the doubleheader, so we’ll figure how exactly we want to line it up. But, we’ll make sure he gets through the next couple of days, his bullpen, his side and everything and we’ll go from there."

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Thursday that he expects Kris Bryant (shoulder) to return before the end of the month.

Bryant has begun hitting off a tee and expects to take batting practice on the field sometime within the next few days. Maddon recently implied that Bryant's left shoulder might not be 100 percent even after he returns, but the third baseman doesn't see it that way. ‘‘I expect the same impact I’ve always had,’’ said Bryant. ‘‘I’m just going to go out there and be myself, and I know that’s pretty good to me.’’

Eduardo Rodriguez (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Monday.

Rodriguez was cleared for official game action after getting through a four-inning simulated game Wednesday with no issues. The left-hander is slated for around 75-80 pitches Monday and will likely make one more rehab start before rejoining the Red Sox' rotation at the end of August. Rodriguez is worth stashing in your league if he's available.

Clay Buchholz allowed one run on five hits and went the distance in a complete-game victory over the Padres on Thursday.

Buchholz was staked to a five-run lead before he even took the mound and faced little resistance from the Padres lineup, allowing just five hits in a masterful performance. A solo homer off the bat of Hunter Renfroe in the eighth inning represented the lone tally against the right-hander. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. He needed only 112 pitches to go the distance, recording his first complete game since July 4, 2015. The 34-year-old veteran has exceeded even the most optimistic expectations since inking a minor-league deal with Arizona on May 5. Over his last six starts, he’s 5-1 with a 2.00 ERA and 32/11 K/BB ratio. He’ll face the Angels at home in his next start on Tuesday.
Aug 17 - 1:30 AM

Logan Forsythe went a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored as the Twins blasted the Tigers 15-8 on Thursday.

Forsythe had a pair of doubles among his five hits, including a two-run double in the second inning. The move from the playoff-hopeful Dodgers to the idling Twins didn't seem to be a good one for Forsythe at the time, but he's made the best of it, hitting a robust .449 with four doubles, eight RBI and eight runs scored in 14 games with his new club. That may still be just AL-only territory, but if he keeps it up he'll force his way onto the deeper mixed league radar as well.
