According to Jim Bowden of SiriusXM, the Brewers continue to be "in" on free agent starting pitcher Jake Arrieta.

We heard earlier this month that the Cubs and Cardinals were "showing the most interest" in Arrieta, so this could be a true NL Central showdown. There's no doubt that Arrieta would provide a boost to Milwaukee's rotation, especially with Jimmy Nelson's status in question. The big question remains the price tag, as his agent Scott Boras was at one point seeking a $200 million pact. Of course, that was probably never realistic to begin with, which is why the Brewers are still in the mix here.

Manny Machado (wrist) is in the Dodgers' lineup Monday.

Machado exited Sunday's game after he was hit on the left wrist by a pitch, but X-rays came back clean and he's back in there a day later. He's at shortstop and batting third against Austin Gomber and the Cardinals.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Monday that he expects Edwin Encarnacion (hand) to be activated from the disabled list by "mid-week."

Encarnacion is taking batting practice Monday and is eligible for activation Tuesday, but it sounds like his return will come at least a day after that. The veteran slugger has been sidelined for the last week and a half with a bruised right hand and strained left biceps, with the former injury proving to be the bigger obstacle.
Aug 20 - 6:20 PM

Kenley Jansen (heart) appears to have been cleared during an appointment with the cardiologist on Monday to return to action.

The Dodgers haven't announced anything yet, but Jansen effectively made an announcement himself by wearing an "I'm back" t-shirt in the clubhouse. When exactly the closer will be activated from the disabled list isn't known at this point, but it appears his return is imminent. Jansen has been sidelined for less than two weeks after initially being given a 4-6 week timetable.
Aug 20 - 5:57 PM

Chris Sale (shoulder) will not be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on Saturday.

Sale has yet to resume a throwing program after landing back on the DL over the weekend, with Red Sox manager Alex Cora saying only that the left-hander is in "good spirits." Boston looks like they're going to cruise to the American League East title, so expect them to be cautious with their ace following two shoulder-related DL stints over the last three weeks.
Aug 20 - 5:49 PM

Dereck Rodriguez (hamstring) will rejoin the Giants' rotation Friday against the Rangers.

Rodriguez strained his right hamstring last week during the Giants' skirmish with the Dodgers, but he's evidently made a rapid recovery and will slide back into San Francisco's rotation without a rehab start. Pudge's son is sporting a nifty 2.25 ERA over 14 appearances -- 12 starts -- for the Giants this season.
Aug 20 - 5:43 PM

Orioles placed OF/DH Mark Trumbo on the 10-day disabled list with right knee inflammation.

The knee has been bothering Trumbo dating back to May and recently became too painful to deal with. The O's are merely calling the injury inflammation for now, but they don't have the MRI results yet so how much time Trumbo will miss is still up in the air.
Aug 20 - 4:27 PM

Mets placed OF Brandon Nimmo on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 17, with a bruised left index finger.

Nimmo doesn't have any structural damage following a hit by pitch last Thursday, but he sat out all weekend and remains sore. He should be ready to return when his 10 days are up to close to it. Dominic Smith will remain on the roster after coming up as the 26th man for Sunday's doubleheader.
Aug 20 - 4:23 PM

Braves purchased the contract of RHP Bryse Wilson from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Wilson will make his major league debut Monday in Pittsburgh, pushing Kevin Gausman back to Tuesday and giving all members of the Braves' rotation some extra rest. The 20-year-old has put up an impressive 3.27 ERA and 139/35 K/BB ratio over 123 2/3 innings this season between three different levels in the minors. He tossed eight scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts, no walks, and just one hit allowed in his most recent start in Triple-A. It will only be a spot start for Wilson.
Aug 20 - 3:54 PM

Mariners activated SS Jean Segura from the paternity leave list.

Gordon has been away from the team since Friday. Dee Gordon has been filling in at shortstop, but now he'll go back to splitting time between second base and center field.
Aug 20 - 3:09 PM

Jhoulys Chacin fired six shutout innings to pick up his 13th win of the year against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Chacin scattered four hits and did not walk a batter. He stuck out three and threw a staggering 62 of 82 pitches for strikes over six frames. The 30-year-old righty has allowed one run or fewer in five of his last seven starts dating back to July 15. He's 13-4 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 122/55 K/BB ratio in 27 starts this season. He's been an outstanding free agent bargain for the Brewers, who inked the well-traveled veteran to a two-year $15 million deal in December. He’ll face the Pirates at home in his next start on Saturday.
Aug 19 - 8:08 PM

Justin Turner went 4-for-5 with a homer and five RBI in a 12-1 shellacking of the Mariners on Sunday.

Turner's homer came off of Andrew Romine -- yep, another position player pitching -- and it gives the third baseman nine on the season. The other three knocks were all singles, and his average is now over the .300 mark at .305. Turner is as hot as it gets with the bat right now, and his OPS 1.223 in his 52 at bats in August. It was only a matter of time for Turner to start playing at the level we've come accustomed to. We just wish it would have come a little sooner, but injuries certainly have played a part in his early "struggles."
