According to George A. King III of the New York Post, the Blue Jays met with free agent starter CC Sabathia on Tuesday.

Sabathia seemed poised for a return to the Yankees when the offseason began and Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports noted Tuesday that the two parties remain in touch, but the Angels were reported to have interest on Sunday night and now the Jays are also in the mix. The veteran left-hander posted an impressive 3.69 ERA (122 ERA+) in 148 2/3 innings with New York in 2017.

Brandon Nimmo went 5-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored as the Mets crushed the Orioles 16-5 on Wednesday.

He got things started early and kept them going all night. He led off the ballgame with a single and came around to score on a Wilmer Flores sacrifice fly. He banged out an RBI-double in the fourth, and tripled to drive in both Kevin Plawecki and Jose Reyes in the sixth. The outfielder's big day boosted his line to .263/.387/.503 with 15 home runs, 39 RBI, 65 runs and eight stolen bases in 411 plate appearances. His .890 OPS leads the team by a wide margin.

Dylan Bundy got taken out behind the woodshed for a seven-run beatdown at the hands of the Mets on Wednesday.

He served up a solo home run to Todd Frazier and a whole bunch of hard contact to the rest of the lineup. He made it through 5 1/3 innings and allowed 11 hits total (six of them for extra bases) while striking out five in the loss. He gave up eight runs in his last start, so it's been a rough stretch for the former elite prospect. He falls to 7-11 with a 4.99 ERA and 1.34 WHIP after 23 starts. He has a nice 137:41 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 131 2/3 innings but has teed up 30 round-trippers already.

Eugenio Suarez struck out in all five of his at-bats in a loss to the Indians on Saturday.

The Reds' third baseman is having a fantastic season but this could go down as the worst game of his life. He will hope to put this embarrassing fiasco behind him tomorrow. He is slashing .296/.376/.554 with 26 home runs and is second in the National League with 88 RBI in 104 games.

X-rays on Ronald Acuña's left elbow came back negative.

The good news is that Acuña does not have a fracture. The (potentially) bad news is that he's undergoing a CT scan, so we likely won't have full results on the 20-year-old star until Thursday. Consider Acuña day-to-day for now, but be sure to check to see the results of the scan to see if he's going to avoid a trip to the disabled list or not.

Tommy Pham will be activated off the 10-day disabled list on Thursday.

Pham was scheduled to play in a rehab game for short-season Hudson Valley, but that rehab appearance was cancelled, and instead he'll make a return to the Tampa Bay lineup after being out for over two weeks with the fractured right foot. In a corresponding move, the Rays have sent down Jacob Faria. On the year, Pham has a .244/.332/.393 line with 14 homers and 10 steals over 100 games.
Aug 15 - 11:21 PM

X-rays on Matt Carpenter's right hand came back negative.

That's obviously great news. Carpenter exited after being hit by a Matt Grace offering on Wednesday. This doesn't completely clear Carpenter from missing time, but it certainly appears that Carpenter was able to avoid a long-term injury. We should know more about the severity after the completion of the game.

Jose Urena was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Braves after hitting Ronald Acuna with a pitch.

It was blatantly obvious that the pitch was intended to hit Acuna, and he was justifiably ejected from the game. Benches cleared after he was hit, and Urena was tossed. Braves manager Brian Snitker was also ejected from the game. Expect both to receive a suspension.

Dodgers placed RHP Ross Stripling on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to August 12 with lower back inflammation.

The move clears up a roster spot for Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is coming off the 60-day disabled list with a groin injury to start against the Giants on Wednesday. Stripling visited a back specialist on Wednesday after experiencing discomfort in the back over the weekend with little improvement over the past few days. He'll be eligible to return on August 22, but there's a chance we won't see Stripling back on the mound until the end of August or beginning of September.

Edwin Diaz struck out three hitters and pitched a scoreless ninth against Oakland to pick up a save.

Diaz gave up a leadoff single, but he quickly disposed of the next three A's to pick up his league leading 47th save. The scoreless inning lowers the 24-year-old's season ERA to 1.95, and the three punchouts give him 103 on just 60 innings this year. He's on pace now for 62 saves, which would tie the single season record set by Francisco Rodriguez in 2008.
Aug 15 - 6:59 PM

Dee Gordon hit a two-run homer in the top of the 12th inning to help the Mariners to a 2-0 win on Wednesday.

It's the second homer of the season for Gordon, and the first for the speedy player since April 16. It was the only hit of the game for Gordon, who has seen his season line fall to .277/.299/.345, and his OPS in the month of August is just .419 even with the homer. Gordon has been a streaky player throughout his career, and while you shouldn't expect many more homers -- if any -- you should expect that average to rise as the season progresses.

Victor Martinez told reporters that he'll likely retire after the conclusion of the 2018 season.

""I’m pretty sure this is going to be it," Martinez told reporters after Wednesday's game against the White Sox. "Like I said, I’m just enjoying these last six weeks and finally go home." Martinez will turn 40 in December, and the 2018 season is his last under contract. If this is in fact his last year, he'll be remembered as an impressive offensive threat, with a career OPS of .815 with 243 homers and 1,163 RBI over 16 seasons. Those numbers become more impressive when you remember that much of the damage was done behind the plate.
