The Tampa Bay Times' Joey Knight reports that contrary to earlier stories, USF junior QB Brett Kean is not facing an academic eligibility issue.

We've got a bit to unpack with this one. On Tuesday, SB Nation's Nathan Bond passed along that Kean would be suspended the first four games of the season due to academic trials. While Knight is now reporting that these classroom issues have been cleared up, Bond responded to that with a clarification of his own, maintaining that a four-game suspension was in the works but that a "very unique" waiver to the NCAA will have that knocked down to two games. Obviously, we're not quite to the bottom of this story. The junior's true status figures to clarify in the coming days and weeks. Kean is looking to secure the starting gig vacated by Quinton Flowers this offseason. Redshirt sophomore Chris Oladokun is waiting in the wings should Kean run into a roadblock, either academically or performance-wise.

Houston junior QB D'Eriq King (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's game against Tulane.

King was injured while handing off the ball in the second quarter, on a play in which he was not touched. After limping off the field he was then carted to the locker room in obvious disappointment. That he will not be returning to the game was already something of an assumption given the way he left the contest. The real question, now, is just what the extent of this non-contact knee injury might be and whether it will take an extended recovery. True freshman Clayton Tune took over for King after the junior's exit and will close out the rest of Thursday's contest. Houston figures to provide clarity on King's status over the coming days.

Toledo redshirt freshman RB Bryant Koback rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in Thursday's 56-34 win over Kent State.

Koback (6'0/193) performed beautifully throughout the contest, ripping off long run after long run -- he averaged a sizzling 11.3 YPC -- while scoring on touchdown dashes of 44 and 15 yards in the second and third quarters, respectively. This was the redshirt freshman's first game over 100 yards for his career. He actually cleared that statistical benchmark by halftime. For the campaign, now, Koback has rushed for 751 yards and 11 touchdowns for the campaign as a whole. He will look to finish out the regular season in strong fashion against Central Michigan a week from Friday.

Kentucky senior LB Josh Allen accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Allen (6'5/260) will get his draft process started in earnest down in Mobile come January. He has been receiving all kinds of positive evaluations from the draft community this season, with The Draft Network's Jon Ledyard calling him "the most improved player in the country" at the end of October (Ledyard was not impressed by his 2017 work) and ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. tabbing Allen as one of the more underrated prospects in the pool of draft-eligible players earlier in the month. The Kentucky standout could be in for a top-10 selection in April should the evaluating process break right for him.

The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award released its list of the five finalists for the honor on Thursday.

Will Grier (West Virginia), Gardner Minshew (Washington State), Shea Patterson (Michigan), Drew Lock (Missouri) and McKenzie Milton (UCF) are the five finalists in question, here. Unlike the bulk of awards bestowed after the season, the Golden Arm's criteria limits candidates to seniors and fourth-year juniors on track to graduate with their class. Hence why no Tua Tagovailoa et al.

LSU has reached a settlement with former HC Les Miles on the remainder of his buyout.

Miles was initially owed $9 million on his buyout after he was fired in 2016. There was still $6 million remaining on it coming into the week, but the two sides have reached agreement to close this one out. This could potentially help to pave the way for the Mad Hatter to take a new job, as previously, any job he accepted would have required that he take a salary that would have evened out the remainder of that buyout. This new settlement officially shuts the book on Les Miles' contractual relationship with LSU. He has been heavily rumored as a candidate for the open gig at Kansas.

Texas Tech HC Kliff Kingsbury said on Tuesday that he does not expect freshman QB Alan Bowman (lung) to play against Kansas State on Saturday.

The Red Raiders are taking an ultra-cautious approach with their promising freshman signal-caller, as they already once tried to start him a few weeks removed from the initial collapsed lung he sustained against West Virginia at the end of September, only for Bowman to again end up in the hospital after he took a hard hit in a loss to Oklahoma. Jett Duffey is expected to draw the start against the Wildcats on Saturday. A glimmer of hope, though -- Kingsbury indicated that it was possible Bowman could play against Baylor in the regular-season finale a week from Saturday.

Purdue HC Jeff Brohm said unequivocally that a Thursday report that had him taking the vacant head-coaching job at Louisville is false.

ESPN 107.5's Dan Dakich tweeted out earlier on Thursday that Brohm would be accepting the Louisville head-coaching gig on Monday, Nov. 26. Brohm vehemently shot down that report when asked about it, calling it "completely false" and saying that "there's nothing to it." Vegas has pegged Brohm as a favorite to land with the Cardinals and that may well still end being the case, but at the very least, he is putting on a strong public face to the contrary.

Arkansas HC Chad Morris expects junior RB Devwah Whaley (ankle) to return Saturday against Mississippi State.

Whaley was the team’s starting running back until suffering an ankle injury in the Ole Miss game in mid-October. Whaley had 298 yards and two touchdowns rushing at the time. He will likely form a committee with Rakeem Boyd going forward.
Nov 15 - 12:45 PM

Ohio redshirt senior RB A.J. Ouellette rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in Wednesday's 52-17 win over Buffalo.

Not only did the 5-foot-10, 209-pound Ouellette absolutely dominate this game on the ground, he chipped in with an eight-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter just for good measure. The redshirt senior has been outstanding of late, with Wednesday's immaculate performance his third game of at least 135 yards rushing in his last four contests. Ouellette will now need just 27 yards rushing against Akron in the regular-season finale to hit 1,000 yards for the campaign.
Nov 14 - 10:43 PM

Buffalo redshirt junior QB Tyree Jackson completed 9-of-21 passes for 116 yards and two interceptions while rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown in Wednesday's 52-17 loss to Ohio.

Jackson (6'7/245) did have a nice evening as a runner -- his 70 yards rushing came on just three attempts, with a long run of 55 yards -- but otherwise this was one of his more lackluster performances of the campaign. This was just his third game all season in which he has thrown multiple interceptions and his first with zero touchdown passes. Jackson and company will look to rebound from this uninspiring showing in their regular-season finale against Bowling Green a week from Friday.
Nov 14 - 10:30 PM

Ole Miss junior RB Scottie Phillips (ankle) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against Vanderbilt.

Phillips was forced out with an ankle sprain during this past weekend's loss to Texas A&M. The junior back did not take part in practice on Wednesday. Should he be forced to sit out against Vandy, it would be a critical loss for the Rebs. Isaiah Woullard would see an expanded workload if Phillips is unable to give it a go on Saturday. We'll check back in with this situation in the coming days.
