Alabama freshman DE signee Jordan Davis has enrolled at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Davis (6'5/238) signed on with the Crimson Tide during the new December window and had been planning to enroll early in Tuscaloosa. Just why the change of heart is not currently known, but rather than forge ahead with his collegiate career under HC Nick Saban, he's decided to take the JUCO route to start. Rivals ranked Davis as the No. 86 overall prospect in the 2018 class and there's still considerable talent to mine here once he makes his (assumed) jump back into the FBS ranks at some point down the road.

Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger reports that Kansas is finalizing a contract agreement with former LSU HC Les Miles.

Per Dellenger, an announcement on Miles' hiring could come as early as this weekend. The former Tigers head coach has been linked to the open job in Lawrence ever since the team fired David Beaty at the beginning of the month. He and KU AD Jeff Long have a relationship which goes back to the 1980's. Miles went 114-34 at LSU prior to his midseason firing in 2016, but would be in for a major rebuilding project with Kansas should he accept this job. Potential contract length and monetary terms, here, remain an unknown. Stay tuned.

Saturday's contest between Cal and Stanford has been rescheduled for Dec. 1.

This was the safe, logical move, as the California wildfires have pushed the air quality into dangerous territory for not only playing a football game, but merely sitting outside for a multi-hour stretch. Because neither Cal nor Stanford will be heading to the Pac-12 Championship Game, this Dec. 1 date works well enough for both parties.
Nov 16 - 4:15 PM

The kickoff of Saturday's game between Nevada and San Jose State has been moved from 5 PM EST to 3 PM EST due to concerns over air quality.

At this time, there is no plan to cancel the game outright. The kickoff was moved up as a result of the wildfires raging across the state of California. This may not end up the only game impacted by the air quality, as Stanford and Cal are likewise monitoring the situation. For now, that contest between the Cardinal and Golden Bears is still scheduled to kick at 7:30 PM EST on Saturday.

The John Mackey Award has whittled the field to a list of eight semifinalists.

The Mackey Award is handed out annually to the best tight end in the country. The eight players who have moved on as semifinalists for the honor are Iowa's Noah Fant and TJ Hockenson, Alabama's Irv Smith, Missouri's Albert Okwuegbunam, Stanford's Kaden Smith, Texas A&M's Jace Sternberger, Boston College's Tommy Sweeney and UCLA's Caleb Wilson. San Jose State responded to the announcement by tweeting out a GIF of a worried child, as the list omits one of the clear top tight ends in the country in Josh Oliver (51-642-3). Oliver leads the FBS in receptions by a tight end. Worried child GIF, indeed

North Texas sophomore RB DeAndre Torrey rushed for 184 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in Thursday's 41-38 win over FAU.

Torrey (5'7/185) had one of the plays of the game on Thursday, bolting for a 92-yard touchdown run with 4:06 remaining in the fourth quarter. That extended North Texas' lead to 41-31 on the scoreboard and gave them a much-needed cushion. The sophomore back has been dynamite down the stretch for the Mean Green, having now rushed for a combined 459 yards over his last three games. Each of those contests has seen him go over 130 yards rushing. We'll see if Torrey can keep up this red-hot pace against UTSA in the regular-season finale a week from Friday. Given the opponent, he could be in for a huge performance in that spot.

Houston HC Major Applewhite said after Thursday's win over Tulane that he has not spoken with junior DT Ed Oliver since the two had a heated halftime exchange regarding a coat.

"I heard he had left [after halftime]. I want him back. I want him part of our football team. If he wants to play, I want him to play," Applewhite said postgame. The whole bizarre situation came about after the coach took a coat off of Oliver's shoulders just before halftime. The team has a rule that only active players can wear this particular coat, and Oliver was not suited up due to a knee injury which has now cost him four consecutive games. Houston director of sports performance Rod Grace had to hold Oliver back after the coat was taken from him. We will have to wait and see if player and coach can put this one behind them collectively. If Ed Oliver ends up bouncing on Houston for the rest of the season (he has already declared for the draft), this would certainly be an odd way to go out.

North Texas junior QB Mason Fine (wrist) returned to Thursday's game against FAU.

Well that was a surprise. It looked very much like Fine was going to miss the remainder of the game after injuring his wrist on a hard sack early in the third quarter, but after he was checked out in the locker room, he trotted back out there before the quarter had even come to a close. First play back? Quarterback keeper. If there's any lingering concern over the junior's wrist, we will pass along word.

Houston sophomore RB Patrick Carr rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries in Thursday's 48-17 win over Tulane.

With neither Terence Williams nor Mulbah Car playing in this one -- and with QB D'Eriq King exiting due to a first-half knee injury -- it was up to Carr to carry much of the offensive load on Thursday evening. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound sophomore came through in grand style, averaging 7.7 YPC while setting the tone with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns. This was his first 100-yard showing of the campaign. He will try for another one against Memphis next Friday.
Nov 15 - 11:42 PM

Houston junior QB D'Eriq King (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's game against Tulane.

King was injured while handing off the ball in the second quarter, on a play in which he was not touched. After limping off the field he was then carted to the locker room in obvious disappointment. That he will not be returning to the game was already something of an assumption given the way he left the contest. The real question, now, is just what the extent of this non-contact knee injury might be and whether it will take an extended recovery. True freshman Clayton Tune took over for King after the junior's exit and will close out the rest of Thursday's contest. Houston figures to provide clarity on King's status over the coming days.
Nov 15 - 10:16 PM

Toledo redshirt freshman RB Bryant Koback rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in Thursday's 56-34 win over Kent State.

Koback (6'0/193) performed beautifully throughout the contest, ripping off long run after long run -- he averaged a sizzling 11.3 YPC -- while scoring on touchdown dashes of 44 and 15 yards in the second and third quarters, respectively. This was the redshirt freshman's first game over 100 yards for his career. He actually cleared that statistical benchmark by halftime. For the campaign, now, Koback has rushed for 751 yards and 11 touchdowns for the campaign as a whole. He will look to finish out the regular season in strong fashion against Central Michigan a week from Friday.
Nov 15 - 10:03 PM

Kentucky senior LB Josh Allen accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Allen (6'5/260) will get his draft process started in earnest down in Mobile come January. He has been receiving all kinds of positive evaluations from the draft community this season, with The Draft Network's Jon Ledyard calling him "the most improved player in the country" at the end of October (Ledyard was not impressed by his 2017 work) and ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. tabbing Allen as one of the more underrated prospects in the pool of draft-eligible players earlier in the month. The Kentucky standout could be in for a top-10 selection in April should the evaluating process break right for him.
