Riyad Mahrez is expected to be in the squad to face Manchester City on Saturday after a turbulent week.

On Thursday, Leicester City manager Claude Puel ruled Mahrez out for the weekend trip to Manchester City as the Algerian had yet to train since Deadline Day when a proposed move to the league leaders never took off. But as of Friday, Mahrez had returned to training and was in the traveling squad to Manchester for Saturday."My goals have always been the same and I have always given my full 100 per cent when I play for the club, the fans, and my team-mates," Mahrez said in a statement. "Those goals remain the same today and in the future and, when I am asked to be a part of the Leicester team, rest assured I will continue to give my all."

Shane Long looks set for some time on the side-lines as he may need surgery to cure a longstanding ankle problem.

The Southampton striker was poised to line-up again Watford last weekend, but suffered a setback in training on Friday, and now Mark Hughes believes that an operation may be the only answer. "He might need a small procedure on his ankle to address that problem he had had for some time," he said. "If he does, and it's not confirmed as yet, it could be a little bit of washout to free out the ankle. That would be two weeks maybe." However, the Saints boss went onto add that if the problem is more serious than initially thought, then Long could be missing for up-to six weeks, ruling him out until the new year. With Danny Ings currently nursing a hamstring problem, Southampton would potentially head into game week 13 relying on Charlie Austin as the only experienced out-and-out striker available.

Brighton and Hove Albion officially announced that forward Glenn Murray has signed a one-year contract extension.

It's remarkable that the Premier League journeyman continues to produce at the rate he is, leading the team with six goals to put him behind only Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season. The 35-year-old is now guaranteed a contract through the summer of 2020 after scoring his 100th goal for the Seagulls. Said Murray: "It means a lot that the club has shown another year's faith in me. I just want to carry on in the form I'm in at the minute and continue scoring goals at this level for Brighton. I don't think at any stage of my career I'd have believed I would be getting another contract in the Premier League at this age, but you just never know what can happen in football."

The first manager of the 2018/2019 season to lose his job is Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic, and the Cottagers have installed an immediate successor in Claudio Ranieri.

The move was probably in motion before the Liverpool match even took place, as no one could have expected Fulham to get a positive result in what would be Jokanovic's final game in charge. With the international break, it allows Ranieri more time to get acclimated with his new surroundings. Clearly, the issue that hurt Jokanovic the most and is Ranieri's primary objective is to turn around a defense that is currently on pace to concede the most goals in a single PL season. Of course, Ranieri's resume is well documented, as he guided Leicester to their improbable title win. This would seem a more difficult task for Ranieri though. Jokanovic could not find the right mix of defenders and Fulham may find it difficult to make the personnel moves in January necessary to stave off relegation.

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Matthew Doherty has been withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming internationals due to injury.

The 26-year-old took a nasty knock in the face [cheek] at Arsenal and met with a specialist yesterday to determine the extent of the problem. Although the precise details are yet to be revealed, the Football Association of Ireland [FAI] confirmed on Wednesday that Doherty will miss the friendly with Northern Ireland and the UEFA Nations League game in Denmark next week. Doherty received pelters at the Emirates on Sunday from Gunners fans - who believed he was playacting - following lengthy treatment late on with the score tied at 1-1. However, Doherty will now return to Compton Park and is considered an early doubt for the clash with Huddersfield Town at Molineux when the Premier League fixtures resume. Doherty has started every game this term, but if he does miss out, then Nuno Espírito Santo may look to Adama Traore who impressed from the bench last time out.

Crystal Palace have kept defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in south London during the international break due to injury.

Wan-Bissaka has started every single Premier League game but one this season, which he missed due to suspension, but will miss international duty with the England U21 side due to a shoulder problem. The 20-year-old has been one of the hottest fantasy picks of the season due to his low price in FPL.com (£4.1) and reliability as a starter. His first start saw him earn praise from across the league, including some transfer interest. Said manager Roy Hodgson: "As far as we're concerned of course we have him as our player, he's under contract with us and we have no desire or intention of selling him so it's certainly not anything which occupies my waking moments or sleeping moments either for that matter,"

Danny Welbeck is already on the road to recovery following his release from hospital on Tuesday.

The Arsenal forward confirmed via his personal Twitter account that he was: "Back home..." after being admitted on Thursday evening following an awkward landing in the Europa League tie versus Sporting which left him with a broken ankle. "Thanks for all the love and support," his social media post read. "No doubt I will be back stronger than ever before. Recovery grind starts now." Unai Emery revealed after the 1-1 draw with Wolves that Welbeck went under the knife on Friday, although he was unwilling to give a potential time frame on his absence. "I think it’s better for the doctor to say to you. It’s a big injury but the outcome… the doctor can answer that better than me." The club then confirmed a planned second operation had taken place on his right ankle and that both procedures went well, without complications. "Danny will now recuperate and start his rehabilitation. It’s too early to say how long this will take."

The Football Association have confirmed Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Tripper has been withdrawn from the upcoming international fixtures against the United States and Croatia.

Trippier limped off after 24 minutes at Selhurst Park on Saturday due to a muscular problem, and his involvement during the break, was always in doubt despite an optimistic update from manager Mauricio Pochettino after the win over Palace. "I don't believe it will be a big issue," he said. "It's a groin, he felt a little tired. We'll see if he's involved on international duty or not." But, after an assessment at St George’s Park, Trippier was released from the squad and will return to Hotspur Way for treatment. Spurs take on London-rivals Chelsea in the late kick-off when the Premier League reconvenes on November 24, and if Tripper fails to recover, Tottenham have a readymade replacement in Serge Aurier. The Ivory Coast understudy has only started one league game in 2018/19 – the opener at Newcastle – but he has featured more prominently in domestic cup competition and in Europe.

Ivory Coast international Wilfried Zaha will miss Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea due to injury.

The talismanic Crystal Palace attacker was a surprise omission from the matchday squad on Saturday after he failed to recover from an unreported hamstring strain which he suffered during the defeat at Stamford Bridge six days earlier. Roy Hodgson decided against disclosure during Thursday’s press conference, as Zaha was still hopeful of playing. "Nothing special to report at the moment," he said. "We haven't recovered any of the injured players, but haven't lost any [new ones] either." However, Zaha missed the Tottenham clash with most speculating that a late training ground injury was the cause for his absence, although Hodgson confirmed later that his involvement was always in the balance. "He picked up a hamstring injury against Chelsea and it was always extremely unlikely he would recover in time, basically it is trying to get him fit for Manchester United [in game week 13]."

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini said he hopes that forward Andy Carroll can return this month from an ankle injury.

The former Liverpool and Newcastle frontman is expected to play in a friendly this week in his first action since the preseason when he suffered a recurrence of a previous injury. But the Hammers could be in for a boost for the festive period with Jack Wilshere also starting to work with the squad. Said Pellegrini: "Andy is close to playing again. At the start of last week he started working a little bit with the squad, not 100 per cent, and he will work again this week. On Thursday we will play a friendly game and we'll see if he can play some minutes, and I think in the second week of the international break Jack Wilshere will also be able to work with the squad."

Manchester City officially announced a new three-year contract extension for star winger Raheem Sterling.

The 23-year-old will now become the third-highest player in the Premier League (behind Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil) under a new contract that will pay him up to £300,000-a-week through the 2023 season. Sterling is enjoying one of his best seasons yet with six goals and five assists through 12 games this seasons, enough to link him with a potential move to Real Madrid. Said the England international: "I’m delighted to sign. My development here has been incredible. I felt from the minute I got here it was the right choice for me. It’s really paid off for me and I’m really grateful. Every season you come in you want to do better than your previous season. You want to try and develop and get better."

An injury, picked up by Paul Pogba in Champions League on Wednesday, kept the United star out of the Manchester derby.

There had been no specific mention of a problem by Jose Mourinho during Friday mornings press conference. "No new injuries," he told MUTV. "So, from Juventus, we don't bring important injuries. We have 'touches’, but I don't think any player that was available [midweek] will be out." However, news broke in the afternoon that Pogba was training away from the main group and concerns began to grow further when he was missing as the squad checked in at their pre-match base – The Lowry Hotel – on Saturday. Mourinho explained his absence from the matchday 18 on Sunday. "Paul is injured. He was injured during the game in Turin. He felt that it was such a crucial match for the team. He made that sacrifice for us, and then it was impossible for him to recover." Pogba has been withdrawn from the France squad and will focus on recovering from a thigh complaint during the international break.
