Waiver Wired: Tuch and roll

Sunday, November 4, 2018

Josh Bailey went from a 29% ownership last week when he was featured on Waiver Wired to 44% and he is still going strong with an eight-game point streak. Jason Pominville’s ownership has increased to 42% after he was available in 88% of Yahoo leagues a week ago.

Viktor Arvidsson is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, which has allowed Kevin Fiala (owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues) to slide onto the top line of the Predators. He hasn’t earned a point in the two games that Arvidsson has missed, but the situation should be monitored at the very least.

Now, let’s get into this week’s suggestions:

Nolan Patrick (PHI) - C- Owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues

Patrick has started to build some offensive momentum after a slow start to the season. He has four goals and three assists in the last seven games, including two markers and three helpers during a three-game point streak. Patrick has been playing between Jakub Voracek and Oskar Lindblom, who has begun to chip in more offensively as well. He has also been seeing time on the top power-play unit, which has given some exposure to Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier.

Alex Tuch (VGK) - RW - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

Prior to the beginning of the season, Tuch was viewed as a potential breakout candidate. He was slated to receive a larger role after he had some success last year as a top-six forward, but a preseason injury sidelined him for the start of the campaign. Tuch was forced to sit out Vegas’ opening eight games because of a lower-body ailment, but he has been making up for lost time since his return on Oct. 24. He has three goals on 28 shots and five points after six outings. Tuch has been skating alongside Erik Haula (owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues) on the second unit at even strength and he has been logging time with Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith on the top power-play combination.

Brock Nelson (NYI) - C, LW - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Nelson has been getting the job done at even strength for the Islanders. He has been playing between Josh Bailey and Anders Lee in those situations and has been productive with six goals and one assist in the last seven matches. He has been held off the scoresheet in one game during that stretch. Nelson has received a larger role on the team following the departure of John Tavares. He has averaged a career-high 18:18 of ice time per game this season, which is a significant increase from the 14:44 of average playing action he got in 2017-18.

Dominik Simon (PIT) - C, LW - Owned in 9% of Yahoo leagues

Simon had his five-game point streak snapped on Saturday night in Pittsburgh’s shutout loss to Toronto. He had two goals and four helpers during that span. Simon has been seeing time alongside Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel. He has plenty of fantasy upside in that position and should be picked up at this time.

Ryan Dzingel (OTT) - LW, RW - Owned in 9% of Yahoo leagues

Dzingel had a strong start to the year before he was slowed by an injury. He has been contributing again with three goals and four points in the past five games. Dzingel has been seeing alongside Matt Duchene and Mark Stone at even strength of late. Playing with the Senators’ top-two forwards warrants him fantasy consideration, especially with Ottawa set to play four times this coming week. He leads the team with five goals and 30 shots in 11 appearances this season. The status of Brady Tkachuk (owned in 36% of Yahoo leagues) should be monitored as well, as he could be ready to return this week from a torn ligament in his leg.

Pontus Aberg (ANA) - LW, RW - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Aberg has produced a pair of two-goal performances in the last three games. He has been playing with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell on the top line of the Ducks. He is worth take a flier on at this time and could have some longer term value if he can cement a spot with Anaheim’s top-two point producers. Aberg has shown flashes of potential in the past and he has made the most of his opportunity to play higher up in the lineup so far. The return of Patrick Eaves from injury could threaten Aberg’s spot, though, once gets back up to game speed.

Alex Goligoski (ARI) - D - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Goligoski didn’t find the scoresheet in the opening eight games of the season, but he has registered one goal and six helpers during a current four-game point streak. He has been credited with 15 shots and 22 blocks in 12 outings this campaign. Goligoski had 36 points in 2016-17 and 35 points in 2017-18, but thanks to his recent scoring surge he is on pace to surpass those totals this campaign. He should be owned in more leagues, especially if you are need of depth on the back end because he can help in several categories. Goligoski has reached or surpassed 100 hits and 100 blocks in each of the last four seasons.

Devin Shore (DAL) - C, LW, RW - Owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues

Shore has been on a tear of late with two goals and six assists in the last seven games. He has played well alongside Jason Spezza during that span and has logged time with Tyler Seguin recently. Shore’s productive play as a top-six forward on the Stars has been exactly what the team has been looking for in terms of secondary scoring. Spezza (owned in 12% of Yahoo leagues) has done his part in that regard as well.

Drake Caggiula (EDM) - LW, RW - Owned in 3% of Yahoo leagues

Caggiula has been seeing time alongside Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, which makes him worthy of fantasy consideration. He has been taking advantage of the promotion with three goals in the last two games. Caggiula has been doing some yeoman’s work on the Oilers’ first line. He will have some value as long as he continues to see time with McDavid, but this could only be a short-term pickup in deeper leagues.

Travis Zajac (NJD) - C - Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Zajac has been quietly piling up points this season. He has three goals and eight points in 10 outings. His three goals on 11 shots is alarming, as that shooting percentage (27.3 percent) will not be maintained. Still, it’s been a strong start to the year for Zajac, who could be worth trying out for a week with New Jersey set to play Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Toronto and Winnipeg on the road this coming week.
